My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

I watch these to motivate me to stay in shape. It is such rubbish they eat that after each episode all i crave is fruit and veg 😂 i also watch these while exercising, best motivator you can imagine!

Where do they get all this money? Ppl say the show buys the meals. Well yes for the show, but they got this big before the show. How do they afford this??
I feel so bad for that dad in the last clip. He clearly loves his son and I understand when he says that he just wanted to get what his son wants instead of arguing. The son shouldn't even put his dad in that predicament. The dad isn't doing well either himself.

Every time I ask where these people get the money from for all this food. What would happen if they would serve her less and more healthy food? Here in
Germany certain authorities or doctors would intervene. Certainly the health insurance company
would not pay any more without warning first.

I wonder the same thing. I heard the show pays for their meals while they're filming My 600 lb. Life, but I don't know if that's just a rumor. They don't get much money for doing the show, most of it goes to the doctor and they get a small relocation fee if they move to Houston (around $2500 US). Other than that, I don't know where they get the money from because none of them work, and Social Security doesn't pay that well, nor does food stamps and Medicaid, although they do give more for food stamps now based on your income. Definitely enough to eat, but not enough to only eat junk food. Beats me!
They are getting paid by the show to binge and there's a good chance they also receive social assistance. If you think this is only a problem for the USA take a look at India or china's fat epidemic.
I’m embarrassed to agree with OP. I’ve been through Europe, South America, Türkiye, Russia, Romania, and only saw a very few overweight people who weren’t American tourists. It’s so embarrassing. I usually say I’m from California to the locals because that doesn’t seem as bad as the rest of the states.
@@annenelson5656 I saw a documentary that took place in the UK that showed what they termed "morbidly obese" but were not half the size of most they show on 600 lb life. They were getting free (aka taxpayer funded) weight loss surgery, home health care aids that would visit sometimes twice a day to bathe them and clean their houses. One couple even had their wedding paid for with taxpayer money. The way they see it, they paid in during the years they worked, so why not get the benefits now? That kind of attitude is what sickens me. It's not bad here in AR either believe it or not. lol
Some people “eat themselves into a disability” so they can draw a check plus have someone come in & cook for them & clean house too. These people are treated like kings & queens because people feel sorry for them. Plus they get paid to let the shows flim them.
What makes me so mad about some of these people is that they often times make people who are already disabled or their own children the enablers. It’s horrific and it’s abuse.
I know what it’s like to have cravings for junk food. I love ice cream, potato chips & doughnuts. Even the big bottles of pepsi. But I started to cut down on the sodas & don’t buy ice cream, chips & doughnuts anymore. I am almost 75 & can’t get around because of my age & being overweight. But I still try to change my bad habits & unhealthy eating. It’s a one day at a time thing. Good luck.

Mental health issues here in every single case. Nobody who is mentally stable gets to 600lb and does nothing about it.
The parade of excuses that these things make is sickening.

A lot of them have complex trauma and they use food as a coping mechanism. Many of them say they are able to tolerate their pain with food hence they eat a lot on the road trips to Dr. Now.

They express their discontentment with the resulting physical discomfort, yet exhibit an inclination towards continuous overeating as their preferred coping mechanism. Wow !
I guess that's what it means to be addicted to something so strongly that nothing else matters. They are week minded with no will power to want to overcome the situation. So every excuse will do .
Most of them I've seen were also SA victims. They eat to stay huge so nobody else will hurt them the way their abusers did. They don't dare seem attractive or it might mean that they caused it. Not true of course, and it's not their fault that they were abused, but a lot of them think that way.
I know what it is like to be abused and beaten up by a drunk farther, however every single person on " my 600 lb life " has been abused in one way or another it seems a bit far fetched, being abused myself made me strong because I would not let him win even if it meant my own life 😏

I get it, it's an addiction. Until you want help you won't try. I have given enough up drinking and smoking, just had no desire anymore. God will help you, but you have to be serious and repent and live for him.
If you're a believer, it's ok to trust God, but if you're an atheist you just have to believe in yourself first. Anyway, being true to oneself is the key.

I don’t understand the “I’m always hungry” part.
Probably bcz they have stretched stomach..and that’s a-lot of space in stomach and can’t be filled with just regular meals.
There is a chemical called High Fructose Corn Syrup that manufacturers put in many foods. It’s in the ingredient list on the food label. That product makes people hungry & the more they eat, the more they want to eat.
You're probably also not 600 lbs, so how could you understand?
I guess a body that big would need more calories to keep it going?
You never see these people buying the organic products without the additives, even when they're transitioning their diet. They'll eat salad but still use Wishbone dressing. They're not fully reading the labels.
These ppl are fascinating but I have nothing bad to say about them I hope they all are healed before it’s too late

The second lady just ate a plate full of chicken wings and nachos !! , immediately after eating. She asked everyone whos ready for desert ? No one, really answers , then, implies for her kids to bring the cake, she says no, bring BOTH cakes, did you see how enormous one of the cakes were?. They sat BOTH cakes in front of her. 😢
And they weren't little cakes either! 😞

Okay as a person that has battled her weight since she was 8 years old when her grandmother started feeding me lots of sweets for the year I lived with her I gained so much weight and it started my lifelong addiction to sweets😢😢😢 this is 60 years ago and some people still do but in those days they equated food with love😮😮 the point I'm trying to make is I never let it get to the point where I couldn't take care of myself and my children and never has anyone had to wipe my butt😢😢😢 these people are disgusting and they are a drain on the economy on their families and on the Healthcare System and they spend so much time complaining about their aches and pains but they keep stuffing their face and having pity parties😢😢😢😢

I genuinely feel bad for people with underactive thyroid issues, as well as those who've suffered childhood traumas. But how on Earth do things end up like this? I've said it before but it's worth saying again: my family would literally tie me to a tree (for health's sake) if things got to this point rather than see me with no quality of life, JMHOP.

Just once...just one time...I would love to see one of the enablers bring out a plate of salad 🥗 put it down in front of the oversized person and watch all hell break loose! Then if they complain, say, if you want something unhealthy get up and get it yourself! 😃
I only eat one meal a day, quite a big one, other than that maybe a fruit or a yoghurt, no sweets, no alcohol and I work out and I still cannot loose weight..
I'm not sure but the black lady that's preparing the food on the couch did anyone else notice it is plywood floor not even a carpet probably because they can't afford it with their grocery bill😢😢😢😢
Oh the talk of loosing family members is an ultimate excuse to shovel food down your throat or for whatever other reasons these people have.
Last famous words from each of these stories and I quote I want to change my life as they all sit in front of a mountain of food.
Then you have the rest of the family helping a loved one to slowly drown in food.
The only sympathy I have is for other Americans who most likely have to pay a higher tax due to unhealthy obese people.
