John Balch is my ancestor. He had The Balch House in Salem, the first structural house built in America. We also kind of started the witch trials. David, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Balch, anyways. Unfortunately, my aunt is the one who testified and got Bishop killed (Elizabeth and Benjamin Balch). Crazy times! They were trying to get Sarah killed for witching, but she escaped with her husband, and Bridget was killed instead.
My ancestor, Thomas Gardner, immigrated from England in 1624 on the “Charity” as head of the “Dorchester Co.” of England. He was an innkeeper and selectman in Salem. He died in 1674, and was buried in the Gardiner burying ground in Salem, after a “ long and useful life”.
