The English and Swedish lyrics have a very different meaning. In English, it talks about the governments that send their troops to war for...basically their own purposes, getting so many of them killed. In Swedish, it's sang from one soldier's perspective about war being the only thing he knows, and what meaning his life would've been when he dies. It's much more personal. So I'd highly advise you watch this video again, but with captions on. Because it's VERY powerful. Both versions are, but this one I think has a much stronger meaning BECAUSE it's from the perspective of the guy on the ground.

This album Carolus Rex was actually released as a two parter... one in Swedish and one in English! So you can actually hear the English version of it, and I reccomend that you do, because it's not the "same" song. Obviously different languages and rhymes doesn't translate, but instead they changed the meaning somewhat... The entire Carolus Rex album is about the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire, and while the English version is more like an observers view of the event, the Swedish version is about the man on the ground, as you heard in this song. The soldier doesn't know if he will even come back home or not, or if they will even be remembered at all.
I was actually in this crowd and it will be a memory that I'll keep with me forever, I sang along to the entire song with random people next to me, we all shed a few tears during this song and when I think back to it, it still brings a tear to my eye how this song brought me closer to some strangers next to me.

But an accurate and lovely song imo, it gets people in the perspective of just an ordinary soldier, and how it was for them especially about 300 years ago.. super sad but also interesting song! As a veteran this song is very powerful. It came out after I came home but it describes pretty much what we all felt when being away from home.

Was supposed to see them last year fingers crossed the new date will go ahead. I've seen them as supporting act back when I wasn't in to them.
