I used to believe this too, but with some rewatches of HL2 cutscenes, I think G-Man is probably his own unique alien from Xen and works with a faction that wants Xen for itself. He is way more powerful than the grub things, as they're capable of telepathy and telekinesis, but G-Man literally teleports, alters reality, manipulates fate, and more. Advisors can kind of just fly and lift things. The only thing that counters his magical power so far are the Vortigaunts, and he needed you to defeat the Vorts and the Nihilanth so that he could stroll along and take Xen for his employers. Proof of this is in the Episode 1 cutscene where the Vorts interrupt his session with you, and later (or chronologically before) in Alyx, where Vort magic is taken from captured pods and dumped into his cage in that flying citadel to keep him locked up. When he talks about his employers, there's an inconsistency. In HL1, it's suggested that he caused the alien invasion by nudging the crystal along with the efforts of the scientists, and once the Nihilanth is dead, Xen now belongs to the Combine. Meaning he was probably literally employed by the Combine at that point. Gordon is then put in stasis, where his services go to the highest bidder. In HL2, G-Man unleashes you upon the Combine, and they are enemies, as evidently seen in Alyx where he is captured and locked up, probably because he's too powerful to just let go. In the Heart to Heart cutscene, he talks about Alyx and how he saved her despite the protests of others, and that he learned how to quell certain naysayers. Meaning he can harm or kill certain employers, but not others. Advisors have a clear leadership role in the Combine and are quite fragile despite their powers of telepathy and telekinesis, and G-Man rather easily has you kill one in a vision in Alyx to alter the future, whereas Vortigaunts have no issue stopping the G-Man but are easily enslaved by the Advisors and their minions. Since he is so powerful and it is suggested that he is sought out or quite literally employed by various third parties, I think it's unlikely he's one of the grub people. Advisors are strong and powerful, but not to the level of G-Man. If he was a shu'ulathoi, I imagine other members of his kind would also be powerful to the point of altering realities, and thus would not need to "show up to the battlefield" so to speak. He's probably meant to be something like a Vortigaunt or Nihilanth in his true form, but we just don't know. Maybe he's an organic manifestation of Xen itself.
But isnt the third arm of nihilanth the same as the vortigaunts and the metal attacher is actually cuffs, which would make the slave dialogue a make some sense?
18:40 I couldn't agree more, while playing through that area it felt so out of place and ominous, I genuinely speeded up the tram at every moment due to the fear it gave me, to the point any npc show up jump scared me 😭😭😭😭

Valve didn’t add any female scientists due to technological restrictions, in half life 2 when you get to kleiners lab, there’s a picture that shows a female scientist.
what does postal has anything to do with half life tho? no shit a game that its whole shtick is shock value and dark humor is gonna do exactly that and a game that its about outer space monsters and aliens taking over the earth is not
That is a pretty good reason on why we might not have female scientists. But then again, they could’ve cut anything else and have female scientists in the game.

My schedule is completely messed up so I don’t know when but yes, I do plan on making icebergs on Half-Life 2 and Episode One, Two as well. Hopefully soon. Stay tuned and thanks for the support 👍
Gordon and Barney surviving on Xen can be explained by switching the perspective: Xen creatures can survive on Earth, so they need oxygen the same way as Earth species do. The oxygen levels in the atmosphere, around 21% on Earth, must therefore be around the same on Xen. Hence why humans can breathe on Xen the same way they can breathe on Earth. The only thing that goes against this theory is how antlions from HL2 wouldn't be able to survive because they're simply too big - and antlion guards are even less likely to survive here, because, well, they're much bigger than antlions. But in the context of HL1 only, Xen and Earth share somewhat the same type of atmosphere.
Back in the day, Valve was also asked "Why no female scientists in HL1" The rep just shrugged and said "They had the day off?" As mentioned, there were female assassins with blackops. But Opposing Force introduces male blackops. It's all just hardware limitations, and the female scientist model featured had her entire story cut.
In an Interview with Valve News Network, Gabe Newell's son Gray Newell said that the boss was inspired by his birth, saying, "The final boss of Half-Life 1, the giant evil baby monster, is supposed to be me. When my mother was in childbirth they were thinking, 'what's really scary?' And at the time, having a child seemed to be the scariest thing to everyone.” It really isn't that deep.
My personal theory for what headcrabs did in xen, comes from a fanfic actually, the idea being that headcrabs were fungal gardeners, feeding off of the fluid in one of the fungal bulbs and using their beak to control the growth in the rest of the colony. It just so happened that human heads and brains were similar enough in appearance and physiology that headcrabs saw them as food, and could control them
3:00 There are no female scientists because of technology restrictions at the time, you show the female scientist model, which was planned for half life, but cut, however, in half life 2, in kleiners lab, we can see a picture of the science team, which includes a female scientist.
The opening about women not being allowed in video games made me think of silent hill 3 and how that game tackles its enemies with a "weak" female protagonist. I agree with your point tho just wanted to leave you a comment.
G-Man is very simple, he is from the future. This is why he is only observing and minorly tweaking events. In his timeline, Gordon and Adrian died and were not known to his world's history. Thanks to his ability to pluck Black Mesa personnel out of time and put them in suspended animation, the Black Mesa incident has yielded a perfect pool of individuals to prove themselves as valuable operatives who can adapt to all alien threats. Furthermore, G-Man's timeline must be one that has freed itself of Combine control and possibly even propelled itself to the top dog position in the universe. This was only possible to do by encountering the Combine, but when and how G-Man's timeline met them could have been at any point and maybe not even had a resonance cascade. Therefore I have to assume G-Man is not only a time traveler shaping events to his employer's liking, but probably not the only time traveler either. He merely needs to twist events and Gordon is a useful pawn to do this who would've otherwise died at Black Mesa.
I agree with your theory, in HL Alex the Gman gives choice to Alix to save her father, and we all know he died so this scene does indeed prove that Gman can manipulate time.
I may be late to the party but I have an interesting theory about G man's attempt to detonate the nuclear bomb as seen in Opposing Force! And it connects to Half Life 2's events. We have seen the incredible strength of the Combine throughout the later games, including HL Alyx and their technological superiority. But they do lack capabilities seen by both Xen creatures and Black Mesa research... Portal technology; specifically short-range, same dimension kind. It is possible the Combine were at war with Xen for this reason; to acquire this strength for themselves (why a superior race such as the Combine lack such power? Maybe their world is vastly different from our own, making researching inter-dimensional portals EASIER than spatial ones, maybe Xen crystals are the only element they know which can make such a feat possible?). Since Black Mesa managed to successfully research and develop portal technology (albeit not in the most efficient way...), they may possess information ironically important to the Combine or (if they already know all they need) Xen crystals and direct access to the home-world of their adversaries. Since we know G man is no ally to the Combine (as seen in HL Alyx), the detonation of a place that could give them what they were looking for, seems like a logical decision to prevent them from possibly threatening him and his "employers"... (they managed to capture him as seen in HL Alyx so they CAN be considered a threat, same goes for the Vortigaunts' powers). The way he acts and talks suggests an understanding of the events to come, Combine's arrival too. It would be no surprise for everything happening to be part of his plans.
Just so yall know gman set the nuke up to get combine to fight humans as he is related to ninliaths with his powers shepard turned it off but the black ops did it again
Its the other way around, black ops first arms the nuke, shephard fights them and disarms it and then we see G Man arming the bomb again but we cant do nothing much
It’s his name in the files as well, gmen basically just refer to nameless government men. I doubt Gman is actually with the government but any random Black Mesa survivor would think that he’s with the CIA or something
You are right. So, here it is. Icebergs are solid as they are ice but they do tend to melt. Even if it is a small amount. But decay doesn’t really happen as when water melts (when its ice), it just becomes liquid.
