Why Qualifying For The Olympics Sucks

- After the qualification period is over. It is now time to reflect on the system used and it's effect on weightlifting.
Please note this was recorded and edited before Lesman Peredes competed but the point still stays the same.
Man, if they didn't get rid of 81kg, we probably would've gotten to see rizki and erwin demolish at the Olympics
Karlos… cough cough Nasar
@TsarNicholas2nd nasar isnt an 81
@@coopdville317he moved up because there was no 81kg
Man, I'm still coping with Rahmat not going to the Olympics, and Tian Tao retiring 😔
fr :(
The top 10 system is better than the last one, which basically ended the careers of multiple lifters. But it's still got massive problems, like the ridiculous rules about only 3 men and women from each country, and of course the lack of weight classes.
I think some of this could be fixed too by having actual reasons to win competitions that aren't the Olympics. That is the main issue in my opinion. Winning worlds or euros or any other competition like it seems to be meaningless to the lifters - all they care about is the Olympics. If winning worlds had an actual award or something, then it would actually be entertaining again and the non olympic classes would still be good.
weightlifting needs a competition where all bets are off.
There is a mental aspect to the sport. But we do recognize training world records just not official.

I beg your pardon. You what?
U knocked this one out of the park! THANK YOU SIR!!!
This is great but I disagree on one issue, the caring: I now care less for the Olympics.
Because so many fantastic lifters get snubbed from the Olympics, the diversity of talent has a huge standard deviation. That is now going to be inflated even more due to this qualifying change. But the qualifying events seem to have so much more action.
For instance, Rizki, Rahmat, and Shi at the World Cup was insane. But with Rahmat not going, the Men's 73kg will not be nearly as fun or competitive at Paris. Women's 71kg is similar: the United States has a ton of amazing women, but because of Reeves, Meredith Alwine and Katherine Vibert won't be in Paris. All three could podium.
Agreed. Although in the UK we say couldn’t care less. Which makes sense compared to “I could care less”. Nonetheless, the Olympics mean very little nowadays especially in lifting. Less classes and possible/probable gold medalists not being able to compete is farcical. Lifting should accept that it is, always was and always will be an extreme minority sport and just look inwards and do it’s best for lifting. Not trying to appease the IOC all the time.
A channel like this can be great for WL, keep making vids !
Thank you so much, your Hamp the Champ documentary is 🔥🔥🔥and I can't wait for your upcoming ones.

I personally feel like this quad was entertaining to watch because of this qualification system. Seeing people push really hard at these meets kept me on the edge of my seat. It also made me want to know and watch other lifters that were on the cusp of getting into the top 10.
At the same time, I do feel bad that it’s broken some of the athletes in the process. I also think it’s pretty whack that some of the best in the world can’t go to the games. But rules are rules and we can only hope it changes for the better next quad.
Great content, keep going🔥
Thanks so much, and I love your videos.
TBH, I will probably reach out to you later on this year as I need more information about this year's Chinese nationals, if you have any.
The sport just worked better with previous systems, where countries received qualification places as Nations. Sadly, the IOC punished Weightlifting for the amount of corruption and doping cases. I think the hope would be to increase the Olympic categories to 8, at least. Probably a ranking system based on the results as Nation, where they don't need to just go for a big total but gaining points according to their results and WR, if that's also the case.
Only 3 weight categories is a JOKE!!!!
The rule was made to contain china
Corect me if I'm wrong but the qualification requirements for athletes in the weightlifting category at the 2024 Olympics are incredibly frustrating for me. I always thought it would just be a matter of the athletes' government/country having a national qualifier and then choosing the best athletes from each weight category and informing the Olympics commission, saying, "We have our competitors," and then they would simply have qualifiers at the Olympics followed by an actual semifinal. This system feels so unnecessarily complicated and stressful for the athletes and the people who want to see them represent their country.
the last Robi system is less intuitive tho, we should find some balance in between
I think something like the average of your three best totals is a good compromise. It's simple enough to understand and encourages some amount of consistency between competitions
Thanks for the video. Agree 100% with you. I was thinking the same when hear this rules during the Word Championship.
Great explanation and a great video! Just commenting for the algorithm.
Then Giulia Imperio bombed out in every competition possible LOL
I can't lie I liked this system, Yu Dongju going from 17th to 10th and Hasanbayev going from 26th to 8th was sick. There should be more spots but I like the system
TBH I'm really happy the system knocked out Boady Santavy. Glad Yu Dongju got in. The South Korean team did really well this quad even when they couldn't use continental spots.
@@SomeSeriousWeight All my homies hate Boady
@@AdStellae- Boady isn't even the worst, I'm planning to make a video about Daniyar Ismayilov at some point.
I finally understood why so many failed lift in the qualification! Thank you! Be well my friend
Keep up the vids. Very entertaining to watch 🤝😎
Outstanding vid Serious. I’ve read some of your comments at WH and other vids and found them pretty perceptive I didn’t know you made your own. I don’t feel quite as negative about the non Olympic categories as you do but there is definitely a drop off in interest I understand your sentiments. WH says the proposal for LA is 7 or 8 classes losing 55 and 1 or 2 of the mid heavier categories. We gotta get more than 3/3 lifters. That’s absurd. May Tomas Ajan rot in hell.
Yeah this sport is dead. Not to mention it likely won’t even be in the 2032 olympics. It’s wild how much change this sport has gone through since I started
It gives me no enjoyment to say it but I agree. From the ridiculous press out rule, the female referees thinking that they’re judging gymnastics instead of who is strongest to the capitulation of the IWF to diminish the sport just to be in the Olympics. The Olympics died over 20 years ago. It’s infested with games and pastimes that are there only to bring in revenue.
1 per country is dumb. It should be ranked by your total and the top get in.
Agree, unfortunately the IOC wants to be so damn inclusive... What's the point of having a lifter there via a universality spot that lifts 40 kg (or more) less than the winner in the category?
watching this and not being subscribed: new wl RUclips channel?! good content?! oh man let’s GOOOOO
Absolutely. The Olympics won’t even compare to the last chance qualifier
I dont even call them Olympic games...I call them..Olympic shits.
The way i see it, Id rather watch most people not making lifts than seeing a weight they made before. There is nothing more entertaining than someone taking a huge jump. Obviously injuries will happen more often which is bad. The part about the weight classes i completely agree with.
Thanks for explaining what happened with weightlifting.
I agree the same thing is happening in wrestling things need to be changed and addressed
the fact that each country can only send 3 athletes is silly. If a country can do gold/silver/bronze for each of the weightclasses, they should be able to send that many. Similar to powerlifting where at world champs each country can only send 8 lifters per M/F, and 2 per weightclass max
Why don't they just have a system where there's a list of official meets, and highest 10 from each weightclass go form the last 18 months? None of this BS of having to go to certain meets etc.
I saw a IWF site screenshot from supersoilders wl, where they day that After the olimpics ( probably from 2025 ) Will be a new Wright category change. They Will be the old ones but less. Like 77 85 94 etc bit removing a lighter and a heavier class. Anyone else Can confirm?

mein Vorschlag: insgesamt 120 Athleten
keine Gewichtsklassen
2 Medaillensätze
weiblich (jeweils Heteroweiber)
männlich (inklusive Queermenschen)
Quotient = gestemmtes Gewicht in Kilogramm / Körpergewicht in Kilogramm
z. B. ... x ~ 5,154 = 310 kg / 60,147 kg
Non Olympic weightlifting classes? What do you mean by that taking up time what is the difference?
You know its gonna be a good oly weightlifting vid when it has 700 views lmao
this qualification still pushes for athletes to cycle drugs its dumb competing 1 time in 18 mo
comment for the algo lord, great analysis

TRUE, SAD FACT
I want an actual decision done about drug testing in olympic weightlifting, it's painfully obvious that "certain" countries have extremely lenient drug testing that athletes are bypassing whilst other countries are hammered at every opportunity possible and it's culturally much more frowned upon in those nations than it is others. It's ruining the sport and it's constantly just shoved under the rug by corrupt IWF officials. When's the game of "Everyone knows this person is cheating but no one is going to do anything about it" going to end, probably never under current rules, drugs should be made legal for competition considering how rampant it already is or Olympic weightlifting shouldn't even be a sport to be competed in. Athletes are already using PEDs regardless of restrictions, it's only hurting good abiding athletes under this ruleset, and everyone deep down KNOWS these athletes are on drugs as well.
stop yapping
NH fan try not to be a cringe regard challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
The IOC wouldn't even have olympic lifting without steroids. Also I lift at the gym Caden Cahoy lifts at and he hit all his numbers in training, still bombed out though unfortunately. Ryan bombed out and the US currently only has Hampton Morris going to the Olympics for mens 61kg. If Caden could have just gotten his Jerk he would have gone.
Wes Kitts qualified via continental spot btw. But good point.
Hey Serious Wes Kitts(a very fine lifter) wins the trophy for most fortunate lifter of the quad. Couldn’t lift at the last 2 important meets was in 13th place but had continental spot precariously going into Phuket (a good 388 total) watched from the sidelines as 3 different lifters could have booted him 2 different ways-Rivas directly for continental spot, and Dedham and Rasulbekov indirectly by knocking out Opeloge in 10th place who would then get the continental. I’m not knocking Wes they’re all terrific lifters and all of them should be there but Wes definitely had his rabbits foot working overtime.
