  • The spring barley on the light land isn’t far away from harvesting but the cloudy weather is hindering progress. We take a look at the crop and test the moisture. Cultivations for next years winter wheats continue a pace with the Simba solo, Flatliner subsoiler and Cultipress.
    We’ve also had a mower on demo, in one of our flower rich countryside stewardship areas.
    With Eric from Warwick Uni, I visited Revesby Estate, also on RUclips, to look at their Godiva beans and looked at another unique crop they are growing. I also update you on our Capulet beans.
    Oilseed storage continues, some days slowly, we currently have 2,000 tons of other farmers crop in store.
    So lots going on, join us for lots of farm, machinery and environmental updates in the run up to our combine rolling.

    Morning Andrew, great update we run a major 6 meter topper like the one you tried. And they are very good apart from if you want to cut different heights then is difficult and time consuming to adjust compared to a trailed topper where you adjust clips or pins.

    Hi, do you always terminate your cover crops with the rolls and then disc them in, have you ever sprayed them off, if so do you find you get better results from working in a green cover rather than a dead sprayed off cover? Always enjoy your videos and the fact you'll try different crops and methods

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  2 месяца назад +1

      We don’t have cover crops very often. We put these in on all the tricky soils we couldn’t get planted with crops in the spring because it was too wet. Spraying would have left them standing up, we wanted them flat so the solo could chop them up.

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  2 месяца назад +1

      We have 1/3 of the farm not growing crops so we need to maximise income and there could be a straw shortage this year so we need to support our livestock friends.

    Big change of policy slipped in there Andrew, Why the U turn on baling straw? I thought that Blackgrass control was top of your agenda, are you buying a baler to have control over where its been etc or chancing cleaning down contractors kit before it starts?

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  2 месяца назад +3

      I’m going to talk about it properly on Sunday. There could be a shortage nationally and we have 1/3 of the farm not growing anything so need to to maximise income. Baler will be blown down night before with compressor, not leaf blower and I’ll ask which field it’s come from, I know all the ones locally which have blackgrass.

  • @abbiejones4222
    @abbiejones4222 2 месяца назад

    About your tractors I thinnk I would buy another John deere on tracks especially having a small window on cultivation. Be more useful . And just hire a small tractor for grass toping .

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  2 месяца назад

      We really need wheels to go on a grain trailer and other jobs, I don’t think we could justify the extra cost of tracks

  • @louthboy

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  2 месяца назад

      You’re right, we don’t but there could be a straw shortage this year so we need to support our livestock friends. Also, we have 1/3 of the farm not growing crops so we need to get extra income. I’ve a local bailing contractor who is doing it and blowing down the baker before coming and we’ll check it over before starting.
