I think you are spot on with your opinion that the previous owner , did look after these engines and it shows with you being able to take them apart without too much effort .
We have a Douglas engine like this in our museum in AUS, it’s part of a WW2 generator outfit used by the RAAF. It runs beautifully. Hope you get it restored, they make a wonderful sound
Great choice for the next project Adam, a reasonably rare find these days is a Douglas 350 flat twin, similar design to the power unit used on the Douglas Dragonfly motorcycle, British quality at its best in my opinion.
Not plastic! They could have been "Tufnol". A lot of engines were built with Tufnol gears, even David Brown flirted with them, but they were prone to wear, especially if the oil wasn't religiously changed when it was due. Where Tufnol really scored, was for compliance coupling of magnetos and fuel injection pumps etc. One classic example of a Tufnol coupling was the Simms/CAV fuel Injection pumps on the Fordson Major. They made a characteristic chattering sound, especially at low rpm.
Basically the same designers are Wisconsin engine. You want to pour our oil or whatever diesel fuel down in the intake too. So? It'll set on them valves because they might be seized.
I have a motor like that in a mower that Briggs and Stratton made called a Vanguard. It's vertical shaft, valve in the block, air cooled and 20 horse. Looks like 1/2 of a pancake VW engine. SMOOTH and a ready runner. You'll get it. Might have to go get a special socket. CHEERS!
To possibly get some leverage on that crank, turn the engine around, and look for a suitable way of connecting a lever to the output shaft. Dont lever on them cooling fins again!!
Yes im going to get the correct size socket and breaker bar. But its not looking hopefull to be honest. Shes bad. BUT all is not lost. I may have another option.
Another atom joins the club lol 😂 i can understand why this engjne is beginning to be your favourite out of the bunch because she sure is a very nice engine like you said not very many kicking about, im so surprised of the condition of the mag i was expecting pure rust out of it, great vid as always 👍
Yeah i was amazed at internal condition of the mag. Its got a fantastic spark. Somthing about this engine i just like very much. Its not looking to hopfull right now. BUT i may have a plan. HA HA..
BTH mag missing it's cover on its back which would of had the logo on it ,ring can type points ,great magneto very reliable those ,well worth restoring that Douglas far more interesting than the other ,and quite a rare thing .
@@NorfolkMancave I thought you were a bit on the touchy side in ya last video old chap, I am in Essex right on Essex suffolk border near bures, a little village half in Suffolk and half in Essex but I tend to talk more suffolk, like boof on um instead of both of them if ya get my drift?
Yes device is advance retard on mag , I would just fit normal plug leads for now , you can get water proof leads made up later, the ones I come across are screw together clamping and the lead screws onto a screw type fitting , they made motor cycles with the same engine , called the dragonfly ,
@@NorfolkMancave very nice Do you fancy popping over to the norfolk rag and bone mans (me)and and haveing a look at a wolseley its running to fast There will be a bacon sarny a brew and a bit of money in it
You? Wanna? Hold the chair you make sure you get the time then right. That's your cause on that that's all engineer if you'll give time and right. Take gonna run.

I restore old pushbikes that Douglas is ringing my bell, nice one Adam.
Just discovered your channel the other day.
Brilliant stuff Sir. You have a new subscriber!
Thanks and welcome. Glad you found the channel.. Plenty of HA HAAAARs to come..
Thanks for another great movie about bringing back to life another great old machine . I like your no nonsense approach to things.
Thanks very much for watching.
A great watch, Thanks, I just love the older magneto ignitions..
Yeah so simple. Shes a bloody good mag even if the rest is past saving.
i like to use a small plumbers torch for warming the fins on the jugs to expand the jugs walls so the oil makes it way through with some warmth

Aw.. cool. I belive this may have been part for a gen set. It has a twin V pulley and is in the remainders of a frame. I hope to get it going.
Great video can't wait to see it running 🤠
I cant wait either. hopfully i can get her going.
I've got a basket case Villiers engine just like that one in the shed.
Ow i like these little engines. So easy to work on.
Is that engine the same (though "industrialised") as the engine fitted to the Douglas Dragonfly motorcycle?
I think its a reletive to it. a few people have asked that.

I think its just black steel mate.
Let's use a socket in the Baker bar that would be much easier.
Hey Clyde: the next time ya'll do points pull them shut whilst ya'll stroke her with the Emory. Than it cleans better and flatter.

Ow i know the B S you are taking about. one of my favourite engines.

All good fun can’t wait to see if you get it running 😊
She will get there im sure

I got the back cover buddy. its connected to a kill wire that still on the engine.
Oil level being so high maybe the crankcase is filled with water..
I did wonder that. But No it was very full with oil.
Interesting engine ,I wonder what it was used for ?
I think it was part of a Gen set. But not sure.
That thumb screw on the mag is an advance and retard it winds the cam ring around.
Well thanks very much
Could the 'plastic' part in the mag drive be Tufnol?
Do you go to the waldingfield vintage rallie now you are brave enough to venture into Suffolk lol
Listen, i been to Suffolk twice in as many weeks. LOL...... No i not heard of that rally to be honest. Will look into it.

Yeah i got some old looking braded HT lead coming for it. Not worried about the metal shielding.
Are you local to northwalsham
Im Near Dereham mate. So only 40 mins away.
