      Post partum psychosis is a very real thing. It isn't right to lump them all in the same black/white category. I don't subscribe to that simplistic way of thinking. The world is full of grayscale and nuance. To not recognize that is just way too easy.

      You’re so right! I’ve got no compassion for these murderers. Their own children, and the last dad, Chad D, who killed his 3 boys on Father’s Day. For him to mow plead not guilty when he didn’t snap, he methodically planned it. The mom who sent the dad out & then killed all 3 kids & jumped out the window a few months ago. I have not a single tear for any of these monsters. They need to be locked away from society, for the rest of their lives.

      No. I would like to know the why. Clues would say a divorce was imminent. A mother who got pregnant at 17, showing irresponsible and reckless sexual behavior. Did he get a DNA test and find his "sons" were not his? In a divorce, he loses everything and then pays child support for kids that aren't even his. It would be a hard pill to swallow, your life is effectively over at that point. And rationalizing these actions albeit wrong, makes sense.

      Oh believe me, I have been thinking about Chris Watts since this tragedy hit the airwaves. And I really believe Chad's defense is going to be that Laura is the one that shot the boys, or something along those lines. Basically, Chad will try and throw HIS wife, Laura under the bus and put blame on her JUST LIKE Chris Watts did with Shannan. Everybody knows Shannan did not kill those little girls. Yet, even today there are still people that believe that ridiculous BS.... and I think we are about to see the same thing happen here in this case. Doerman's defense will be to throw Laura under the bus. Just watch.

      @scientistatwork4667 11 месяцев назад +2

      That is your perception but it is not reality. Women are often punished MORE harshly precisely because society EXPECTS a mother to be compassionate and loving toward her children. There is also a BIG DIFFERENCE between a woman suffering from postpartum depression, which can be a severe, clinical disease, and a cold-blooded killer like Chad Doerman. In the latter case, males are more-likely to plan and carry out murders of children to cause severe suffering to the mother. Such men will place revenge above the lives of their children. Several of the expert speakers stressed these differences, which you should have picked up if you listened to the full report.

    Also Andrea Yates can not even be compared to him. What she did was horrible to those kids. Her children. Until you work with patients with diagnosed mental illness that has a later diagnosis of postpartum psychosis on top you’ll never understand it. Andrea Yates ob/gyn AND husband also failed her and their children by continuing to encourage her to get pregnant after her mental health doctors explained that risk. There is ALWAYS some form of mental illness in those who kill their family members. The expert speakers reiterated this point. In fact, a certain number of family annihilators do take their own lives but only AFTER they have murdered others. Besides overhauling access to mental health treatment (badly needed in the US), an increasing number of states are putting roadblocks between violent/mentally ill persons and their guns. If there were more sensible red-flag, gun-control laws, which the majority of Americans want, we could reduce the number of tragedies like this. The problem requires a multi-pronged solution, including teaching society to speak up and report domestic violence and child abuse.

We do need early and ongoing sex education in school and healthy parenting classes for all new parents. We need to instill values of respect and compassion for others, instead of becoming numb to violence. We need to encourage everyone to report domestic abuse instead of hiding behind closed doors. An abusive husband, father and drunk should not have access to guns to murder his children with. If there were more sensible red-flag, gun-control laws, which the majority of Americans want, we could reduce the number of tragedies like this. And the father of little Harmony Montgomery in N.H., now on trial for "disappearing" her (presumed dead) as well as Ronald Anthony Burgos, the married border cop who murdered his little boy when his lover asked for child support (now on trial). As for reporting domestic violence: the police might put an abusive spouse in prison for a day or a week, but he'll be out shortly and will go right back to abusing, even with a restraining order. And of course the other parent or person being abused is afraid of their abuser and has been intimidated into not reporting their abuser. To sit there and ask questions for an hour visit once or twice ain't cutting it. Heres the thing, if you already suffer from bouts of severe depression/anxiety or any mood disorder, the fact is, your rate is higher for being prone to having postpartum depression. Which, if not treated, turns into psychosis. Please, if you are pregnant, if you feel any depression, tell your OB. If you are postpartum, if you start to feel off in any way, say something. No, you will not be judged. In fact, it takes great strength and courage as well as self-awareness and love for your child(ren) to do so. ❤
