  • Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!
Major milestone day for the Boring Company as crews were lifting and assembling the gantries into the tunnel and onto the aft end of the Prufrock 3! I did talk to someone I know at the Boring Company about this and they are all excited at this milestone! This also indicates the tunnel is about 80 - 100 meters in length already!
In the video introduction, I discuss some of my tour of the Boring Company facilities in Bastrop Texas and the Hyperloop plaza that is growing quickly in customers and revenue. I will do more in-depth discussions of my tour and what I learned, but will also intersperse some of the updates into my main videos as well.
I also talk about an interview I did with MYSanAtonio.com and what I talked about during the interview. Finally, I recap my experience at the Texas Corvette Association 31st Annual Car Show, where they reached out to me to feature my Cybertruck as the centerpiece display with a Time Machine Delorean. I made four videos about this event which include drone and ground-level images and video I did in support of the request to help them provide a better review of the experience of the car show for their official website and also for the City of Boerne.
    Timestamps:
Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 3:52
Drone flight footage & infographics: 4:24 to 32:29
A few highlights to look for today include:
In addition to the Boring Company's major milestone today, we see the Cybertrucks have been shifted around on the west side, with few to no Cybertrucks on the east and south ends of the End-of-Line facility, but many staged on the outbound lot and the new north expansion lot. We also see more Cybertrucks, almost exclusively and without Model Y's on the east testing lot near the helicopter pad
    .
Crews were moving the ducting from the west staging area over to the Body-in-White and lifting these onto the roof to being finishing the large opening for the new cooling units in this area.
We see much more electrical conduit being installed just south of the electrical switchyard, forming tow parallel lines with many conduit pipes bundled together in trenches.
The south extension is getting a tremendous of work done all over this construction site, including more concrete, additional steel assembly, grade work on the ground level, roof materials being staged on the roof decking, and many more huge glass panels installed.
The mystery structure on the southeast corner continues to grow larger too, now with red scaffolding being erected on the north end. the tall concrete columns appear to have mounts cast into them about1.5 meters form the top, possibly for mounting some kind of structure or equipment.

5:02. Westside. Tunnel Project. Were a total of 7 back-ups on the ground. 3 must be inside the tunnel already.
10:47. Westside. Tunnel Project. In Joe’s photos (no. 101) the MPVs with the tunnel lining rings are chained together and then chained to the rear of this back-up deck.
Might be that MPVs are being used to restrain the back-up deck as it is let into the tunnel. Looking forward to hear David Salisbury’s take on this.
11:53. Southend, west. Inside. Another retaining wall under construction. Parallel to the diagonal corner of this existing building.
12:23. Southend, west diagonal corner. Inside. Right. Dump truck delivering a load of fill.
12:53. Southend, south. Level 1 inside. Grade being raised. Gravel layer now above the top of the column pedestals. Floor will be elevated about 4’ 1.2m compared to the existing factory.
13:56. Southend, roof. Left. Stud wall constructed at the north. Top is parallel to the roof. Angled sheet between the roof and stud wall.
14:33. Southend, inside. Great view of the retaining walls east-west between the soon to be subterranean passages.
Raised column pedestals one bay north might indicate there has been a change of plans.
Recently added floor beam connection plates on the columns indicates the same.
15:56. Southend. New structure. Centre. Bundles of rebar and ties for constructing concrete beams. Assembling the beam rebar cages.
4 heavy steel column sections in there also.
16:02. Southend. New Structure. Bearer plates spaced out for the formwork staging (Joe’s scaffold). Looks like the structure is getting a concrete roof.
Embedded plates in the columns. On the east and west faces of all columns.
16:52. BIW roof. Left. Pair of the angular cowls for the HVAC system. Another being hoisted to the right.
    Top left. New large flue/chimney.
17:54. Parking Garage. Inside. Parking stall line marking visible.
24:43. Crash Test Track. Cybertruck missing the front door. Door ring painted white.
27:24. Casting, diagonal corner. Apron. Saw-cutting the pavement. A trench perhaps up to the electrical vaults.
28:12. Battery, north. Blue wall sheeting used to part infill the wall opening.
29:17. Highway berm. Sanitary Sewer lift station. Maybe not lifting.

Hi Dessie: I think there are a total of 8 backup decks/gantries. No.1 was already installed (control cabin, grouting controls). No's 2, 3 and 4 must have been installed in the past 24 hours. We saw here No. 5 being lifted into the entrance. The chains between the segment cars (MPV's) and the deck being installed, I am assuming this is to prevent the deck running away down the tunnel, it is on a pretty steep gradient and once the gantry gets moving it could just run away. Hence chain it to the full loaded MPV's to control its installation.

@@davidsalisbury50 Hi David. I'll add 8 decks to my notes. Could you hazard a guess as to what all these decks are? It would be good to have it recorded here in the comments. Maybe Joe could add it to his upcoming Boring Co video.
Thanks for clarifying what was going on the lining ring segments. I thought it odd they would be sending rings into the tunnel during these works.

27:24 Good catch! Looks like the termination point for the new duct-banks seen @ 30:23. Sometimes I'm right. 🙂
The question remaining.... Do we have 2 new duct-banks to the factory or 4? With 2 going to the vaults @ 27:24 and 2 duct-banks going south all the way to the south end expansion? That is, if the data center rumors are correct.
      17:54 Another good catch.

@@DessieDoolan Educated guesses but here's what I think are on the decks/gantries as we move back from the TBM
TBM - includes the cutterhead, bearing, pressure bulkheads, shove rams and articulation (steering) rams, Screw conveyor, drive motors, erector, airlock.
Bridge deck - Links the TBM to the backup decks, acts as a conduit for all the cables/hoses, and as a towbar, as well as the boot end of the conveyor, collecting the spoil from the discharge of the screw conveyor. The segment walker also sits in the invert below.
Backup deck 1 - Control cabin, grout (2-part mixing) pumps, greasing pumps, segment lifter (to rotate 90 degrees)
Backup deck 2 - Hydraulic systems (pumps, controls, tank), cooling water pumps
Backup deck 3 - Electrical switchgear, PLC controls
Backup deck 4 - Other end of segment crane to move segments forward, transformer, compressor
Backup deck 5 - Sub system controls, wastewater tank, grout feed tank
Backup deck 6 - Utility spools (cable extension, utility hoses, extension pipes/hoses)
Backup deck 7 - TBM conveyor drive, main tunnel conveyor tensioner and boot end , conveyor extension sections
backup deck 8 - Ventilation cassette
These could easily be in the wrong order to some extent. Herrenknecht video on an EPB machine shows it all, but in that case, it is a larger diameter so some of the systems are stacked, TBC don't have that luxury, so all systems are linear.

14:00 If they are terminating the Boring tunnel within the southern extension, they had better hurry up before there isn't room to bring in a crane to lift the TBM out..... maybe it's going to surface near the old exit door?

    • @Gig0Surf
      @Gig0Surf Месяц назад +5

IIRC they didn't use a crane after Prufrock 1 surfaced finishing the Westgate2 tunnel, the TBM drove up onto a pile of dirt and then onto a metal frame which allowed it to be carried off on SPMTs. It will be interesting to see what they do this time [and where they end up surfacing]

    • @tunnellingsalisbury7605
      @tunnellingsalisbury7605 Месяц назад +3

The TBM can/will be split into its main components, similar to when it was delivered. Maximum about 50T. But still requires a large crane of heavy lifting gear if it surfaces inside the factory. More likely it will surface before the factory, with vehicles driving down a ramp that passes through the gap in the perimeter wall.

    • @tunnellingsalisbury7605
      @tunnellingsalisbury7605 Месяц назад +5

Tunnel will only be 300m or so long. Workers will walk in behind the segment transporter, which operates via a remote control. From the back of the TBM backup decks there is a walkway along the side of the decks. On larger/longer tunnels there will be a side walkway and a dedicated personnel car that drives into the tunnel.

Its tunneling rate is not very fast - or their quoted rates are when fully deployed and running mid tunnel already ?

Rate up to now was fairly slow, but TBM's always are for the first 50-100m. They have been working with umbilical power, hydraulic and electronic systems connections.
Once they have installed the backup decks and got them commissioned they can go full speed. Although I expect this to be no more than 10-15m per shift, which would be good progress for a TBM of this type.
