I just spent a month with a base 4WD Tacoma SR5 rental that I picked up at the Palm Springs airport with under 1000 miles on it. I put 2500 miles on it driving in the interior of California for work. As an owner of multiple Toyota SUVs (currently 2012 Sequoia SR5, 2022 Sequoia TRD PRO, 2023 4Runner OR Premium all bought new), I can tell you that the new Tacoma is certainly not built with the same quality materials. The 2.4 turbo engine felt powerful enough but very unrefined and never feels effortless and smooth. The interior material quality is just cheap, no other word for it. The body and frame, driven on the highway or paved roads feels underbuilt (light and tinny) but acceptable. Offroad on gravel or dirt, that light and tinny feel makes you feel like it just won't survive the use. For comparison, I had a Frontier for almost the same amount of time and mileage last year (in the same area of CA) and it just feels more substantial and solid, plain and simple. The Frontier's engine is hands-down in a different class in terms of the confidence that I would have in its longevity and reliability as a work vehicle. So much so that I'm planning to buy one in the next few months as a dedicated "play" truck, just regret not buying the previous model with a manual transmission. I keep my vehicles until they die of old age or sudden impact :) or I change continents, and therefore assess them on virtues a little differently than most.
I wish they would stop trying to push “American made” trucks like that means it’s going to be better quality. It’s not. The design is the design and it doesn’t matter where it’s made. There are plenty of POS lazy American workers that slap stuff together just like anywhere else.
Why should it not matter where it is made. The trucks are designed and sold to Americans. Why can’t we also build and assemble them? The Tacoma for example is named after an American city and none are made in USA anymore and the prices increased.
@ lol, you think the price would go down if they were made in America? You think the manufacturers just make them in other countries for no reason? It shouldn’t matter because like with everything else. Most people are looking for the highest quality at the lowest price. You aren’t going to get that from American made goods anymore I can promise you that. People need to get over this thought of “made in America= good quality”, because it’s not true.
Boys, 4 wheel drive only gets you further of the road before leaving you stuck. Two wheel drive trucks still have their place. I only use 4x4s for my work but being out in the middle of no where I still don't drive into sketchy places. Never got my 2 wheel peels stuck and only got one 4x4 stuck once because I believed the hype. I wish they'd bring back work trucks, I don't need all the bells and whistles but the mfgs make too much money loading down the trucks with worthless crap they can make for $10 and sell for $1,000. Bring back a truck like my 93 Chevy W/T then you've got something.
Two years ago, I bought a 2016 Canyon. The new trucks were too expensive, had too much technology (over the air updates), and didn't have the features that I wanted. I prefer an extended cab 2WD truck with a manual transmission. I had to drive my 2002 Sonoma 3500 Kilometers (2174 Miles) in February to get a good deal and then drive my "new" truck home. In the winter, I carry a short handled steel shovel and tire chains and don't need a 4x4.
Also I just picked up basically a one owner 2006 Toyota tundra , older fella passed away and son got it in 2023 and it just set in his garage for the most part until I picked it up , it’s always been serviced on time and has all the factory things with it . It’s a access cab with the 4.0 V6 in it which what I was looking for due to timing chains versus belts on the V8. I got it for $5200 , a bit over 200k on the miles , new Michelins on it , tonneau cover with a bed rug , step bars , professional installed pioneer car play radio. Drives like a absolute dream and in my opinion again I kno everyone’s is different but the 4.0 V6 power band feels better than the V8 but I may be biased a bit. It’s not a rare truck or a pristine truck but it’s one of the best daily driving trucks I’ve had in 20 years on how smooth it is and everything. She’ll be goin to a new home soon but you just can’t beat the “older” trucks for the price if your patient. Also meant to say completely rust free , everything has been tip too serviced.
Thank you for doing this for us! While truck prices are still unrealistically sky-high, at least now we have a better idea as to what’s doable. It kinda reminds me of when Tommy showed us what you do and don’t get in a basic Jeep Wrangler Sport S & Willys.
None of those are great deals. The best deal you found is still overpriced and as long as they continue to rip people off, their sales are going to continue to be down. The only reason they hyped prices was because there was supposed to be supply issues and then $20 $30,000 markups they'll either fix their b******* or they'll go out of business 😂
It’s funny how they’re like you can get American V8 for the same price as the tundra when the tundra has more than 30 more horsepower power standard and almost a 100 pound foot of torque more and twice the doors and 4x4. So I don’t think there’s any comparison between the 2 whatsoever in my opinion but we all have a opinion so just throwing that info out there. Also just wanted to add but that boy who was running the camera and talking almost acted like having a normal key now days was mockable. It’s like dang bro it’s a regular key, a regular key worked for over a 100 years so I think it’ll be just fine and dandy for a work truck or any truck or car have a regular key. Actually I’d probably rather it have one to keep from something else breaking.
Hey Guys, I’ve been watching the TFL videos for some time now. I think you did a great job on this video. You demonstrated that compared to current prices and inventory, some bargains can still be found if you are realistic about your choice of trim level and stick to basic functionality. As someone who has had a 2005 Tacoma as his only 4-wheeled vehicle for the last 20 years, I sometimes indulge in fanciful if not blatantly materialistic thoughts of a new truck. However, the Tacoma has not let me down once in the last two decades of ownership. No failures, period. It’s still in excellent condition inside and out at over 132,000 miles. That being said, I must admit that newer trucks have features and capability that in my opinion, are definitely worth paying more for. Even the most basic trucks you looked at in this video seemed luxurious to me. Surround view cameras, towing assist, multi-function center consoles, better ride quality while increasing payload and towing capability, higher horsepower and torque while maintaining the same MPGs. I would never try to compare what I paid new in 2005 to a current model year truck. The vehicles themselves are so far apart that there is no comparison between them.
I appreciate this episode. I am not sure that saying any of these are affordable is true. As a whole the prices are much higher across the industry than they should be, but we know you guys at TFL can't control that. That said, based on your coverage of Toyota in this video and others I wouldn't be surprised if you guys have some sort of "agreement" with Toyota. ha ha but you covered other models so, much appreciated. Great Channel!
Respectfully, if you're going to do a price comparison of trucks you should do a comparison of all similar model trucks. Comparing double cab prices to single cab prices doesn't give us a real world price comparison on these vehicles.
Tundra has been around 4 model years, is the tundra still experiencing terrible quality control? Panel gaps way off, plastic parts easily breaking, weatherstripping around the window fixed?, how are the rattles?, I guarantee u the engineers haven’t changed anything. All for a ridiculous price. U guys need to push the manufacturers in the right direction
The title should be cheapest trucks in the Denver area. I just went on Autotrader and you can get a extended cab 6 foot bed four-wheel-drive frontier 2025 in the low 30s in other states. I like the channel, but, it also punishes nonturbo trucks and cost of trucks because of the location in the Denver area.
Local dealership tries to buy my early 5gen 4runner every time I go there for service, my answer is "Modern Toyota has nothing that I would want." , every time.
Right, i did the same and every time i got a salesman replying how the new ones come with the high tech & offer more performance. They fail to realize that just because something is new doesn’t make it attractive.
You always say you have to have 4 wheel drive, but tires are always more important. I live in Canada and years ago I was driving my 1982 chevette with rear wheel drive and snow tires and I remember in a snow storm I passed a susuki sidekick 4x4 who was sliding all over an overpass. 4x4 means nothing without good tires.
I was driving south from Detroit 3 yrs ago in a 2wd truck, it was snowing with 3-4” of snow on the interstate. In 70 miles I counted 7 trucks off the highway and stuck in the snow, all 4 wd
These prices are fcking ridiculous. We need to go to the feds and straight up force the companies to bring the prices back down to normal.
3 часа назад
These prices are what has happened to trucks. Partly because people want all these features as standard, are they complain about the vehicle not having them. Plus, they want refreshes in design every two or three years.. This adds up in development and certification. I love lower trim trucks.
The best deals I have seen in Colorado are from Ram dealerships. Saw a couple of new 2024 ram 2500 big horns with the cummins engine for 21k below msrp. It is nice to see truck prices are starting to come back down Great video
None of these are cheap. They are "cheap" relative to the inflated prices that are what make up the market currently. Only buy, if you absolutely have too. Otherwise, keep your old truck.
We don’t import many vehicles from China. And we don’t need to import any from Canada as the same vehicles are made in the states. And Stellantis and GM and Toyota should have not built auto plants in Mexico. When a person buys a Chevy truck built in Mexico with labor rates at half of what American workers make, is that truck a lot cheaper than one made in the states? Hell no it isn’t, let the tariffs roll baby😏
$40k isn't cheap. That SR5 should be $30. I paid 40k for my 2015 f150 XLT FX4 SCREW with 2.7l brand new in 2015 People stop buying overpriced vehicles!!
@TPowell12 my 2015 is more similar to a 2025, than a 2005. So no it's not just inflation. Manufacturers keep raising prices cause yall keep buying them.
All trucks should come with a telescoping steering wheel. If we can get Andre to make a bit of a fuss, maybe we can get GM to make all trucks with a telescoping steering wheel along with cruise control.
Well either way the dealers and manufacturers are not losing money considering the manufacturer makes 7-12,000 on a new full size truck and the dealer buys it from the manufacturer for 3-5,000 less than MSRP on average so when you see that few thousand off they are not losing money they are basically just getting rid of it at what they paid or a slight profit so they can bring in the new
I'm actually surprised that a low level Tacoma is 40k after a price reduction. I must be getting old bc this seems pretty high. I'm just getting tired of it. It's lunch time and I'm at work eating leftovers watching guys talk about cheap trucks that blow my mind bc they seem so expensive. The Chevy 1/2 ton didn't seem too bad tho
An SR doublecab Tacoma with 6sp manual can be had for $40k on Toyotas builder though. And that's with some options. And apparently has to be specced with 4x4. TRD Offroad 47k with 6sp. with the larger display, a dash cam, extra charging ports, bedside illumination and upgraded foglights. Buying a truck like a tacoma with an auto would be so boring. There are tons of trucks on the lot because no one is buying, thus prices are too high. Meaning they clearly need to come down.
‘Great deals’ and ‘Cheap truck’ must mean something totally different to you guys than many of us. Comparing less bloated prices against fully bloated prices is like trying to get us ripped off less rather than fully ripped off. Silly episode.

None of these trucks are “cheap.” As long as these manufacturers continue with this muppet pricing model then may all their inventory rot on their lots. We the people have the power.
Those tires on the Ranger are horrible!! I have a fairly loaded ‘24 Ranger XLT FX4 2.7 V6. It’s impressive with that 2.7 that the dealership has tuned for me. The truck has now been lifted 3” in the front and 1.5” in the rear. The optional tires on my truck were General Grabbers and they ARE decent tires. Now I have larger 34 inch KO3s by BFG. It looks much better now! The engine hardly notices the bigger tires & the dealership calibrated the speedometer & odometer. The real fuel economy dropped about 1.5 mpg with 85% highway driving mixed with city driving. I love the truck!! It’s been off-road some but we have too much snow to really test it out seriously. I feel it will be significantly capable. The shocks are Fox 2.0s so pretty decent yet basic as well. The ride has definitely softened up. Towing feels the same even with 7,000 lbs behind it, but I’m glad I have a drop hitch for the equalizer hitch I have. The truck really is tall. Beside a Ranger Raptor my truck is noticeable taller!
As a Truck guy, I prefer a key! Just Saying.
People need to get over this thought of “made in America= good quality”, because it’s not true.
this only tells me TFL is one of them not one of us
Boys, 4 wheel drive only gets you further of the road before leaving you stuck.
So what about honda, nissan and GMC?
Nissan doesn’t make trucks. Honda doesn’t make frame trucks. GMC is rebadged Chevy.
We mentioned that the lowest priced Frontier we found was $49,000.
You can get a Ridgeline sport for $39,000. That's what I just got last November.
I got a 2024 Ranger XLT FX4 4WD with the box side steps and the 2.7 V6 Ecoboost for $41,900 out the door. Couldn't be happier!
Also meant to say completely rust free , everything has been tip too serviced.
such a deal, it will still be on the road when new toyotas arnt worth fixing.
I used to have same ride. It was amazing.
The epa is done. Standards are being rolled back. Take all the extra nanny gear, turbos, and fuel management off and give us a cheaper truck. 🤷🏽♂️
Thank you for doing this for us! While truck prices are still unrealistically sky-high, at least now we have a better idea as to what’s doable. It kinda reminds me of when Tommy showed us what you do and don’t get in a basic Jeep Wrangler Sport S & Willys.
Still too expensive! Make new trucks $20k again!
“Cheap” for a TFL employee ! Us average folk can’t afford these pieces of 💩
TFL seems to have lost its subjectiveness and unaware who their audience is. The majority of the comments bar the bots don't agree with them.
Do you actually mean cheap or do you mean lower cost?
I thought the maverick was supposed to be 20. A holes.
It was......😂
That was 5 years ago my friend
Great overall review of these various brands!
Hey Guys,
I’ve been watching the TFL videos for some time now.
The words cheap & truck shouldn't occupy the same paragraph let alone sentence.
They should occupy the same sentence. The problem is that they dont
Toyota is the best bang for the buck in this list of trucks
Interesting opinion
@@pathunter7003 That is a fact, not an opinion.
Cheap? 🤦🏽 even the bots see cringing with the choice of words. It might be less expensive, it’s definitely semantics - it’s not cheap!
Love this video! Time that we saw good deals on trucks
These are the best deals we could find.
Just because a screen is big dos not make it high tech lmao
These are NOT inexpensive trucks! These are crazy prices for what you get!
40k. Thaymt is worth 26k.
These prices are what has happened to trucks. Partly because people want all these features as standard, are they complain about the vehicle not having them. Plus, they want refreshes in design every two or three years.. This adds up in development and certification. I love lower trim trucks.
So I guess the "Taco" really is a taco now, right?
I’ll stick to my cheap truck 🛻
My 2011 was $43.5k and a sticker of less than $55k really doesn't seem that bad.
The best deals I have seen in Colorado are from Ram dealerships. Saw a couple of new 2024 ram 2500 big horns with the cummins engine for 21k below msrp. It is nice to see truck prices are starting to come back down
Great video
It’s a trick to make you think you’re getting a deal. MSRP is jacked way up and then they reduce the price to make you feel like you got a “deal” lol.
you can get a used 2008 VW Taureg for $8,000 and a trailer from Lowes for $800.
@TFLtruck Thanks guys, I find it interesting to see the variety of what’s out there. I gotta enjoy new vehicles vicariously.
None of these are cheap. They are "cheap" relative to the inflated prices that are what make up the market currently. Only buy, if you absolutely have too. Otherwise, keep your old truck.
GIve it 30 days and see what the prices look like if the tariffs go in.
Idk why Toyota can’t make decent looking base wheels for their trucks. Others do. Each of those wheels look plastic almost like pop on covers.
Walmart specials😝
@ Right lol. Or at least have optional wheels.
$40k isn't cheap. That SR5 should be $30. I paid 40k for my 2015 f150 XLT FX4 SCREW with 2.7l brand new in 2015
People stop buying overpriced vehicles!!
And in 2005 you could’ve bought an XLT F-150 for under $30K so you also bought an overpriced truck.
Bought my 15 for 38k
for the same truck with the same specs it is now 73k 🤷🏽
@@khakiswag actually no.
There's a thing called inflation. Your $40k truck in 2015 would be $53k today.
@TPowell12 my 2015 is more similar to a 2025, than a 2005. So no it's not just inflation. Manufacturers keep raising prices cause yall keep buying them.
👎👎👎booooooooo! “You’ll have a base model truck and be happier for it”. Wrong
All trucks should come with a telescoping steering wheel. If we can get Andre to make a bit of a fuss, maybe we can get GM to make all trucks with a telescoping steering wheel along with cruise control.
And then the truck will be $200 more expensive..🫤
Sorry, not sorry. Only a dummy would pay over 40k (hell, over 35k) for a mexican made Tacoma when theres way better options at that price.
I thought you said cheap. Before the plandemic i bought my 1500 Lt z71 for 36k same truck now is 10k to 15k more
Only thing cheap about these trucks is the build quality.
Well either way the dealers and manufacturers are not losing money considering the manufacturer makes 7-12,000 on a new full size truck and the dealer buys it from the manufacturer for 3-5,000 less than MSRP on average so when you see that few thousand off they are not losing money they are basically just getting rid of it at what they paid or a slight profit so they can bring in the new
You know what was cheap? The $7000 5.0 160k miles single cab F150 I bought last year.
I would pay the extra $5k on the Tundra. Better looking interior, more capability, and built in the USA.
Anyone with a pulse and marginally functioning Grey matter is not fooled by these rectally invasive prices.
I miss the old “Stubby ram” . Hell Id take a 4.3 Chevy single cab with a 5 speed. Simple is good. What happened to stepsides?
The tundra is going to explode though
I just bought the nicest GMT800 I could find for the low 20k range, and I’m super happy with my purchase.
5:47 South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
I'm actually surprised that a low level Tacoma is 40k after a price reduction. I must be getting old bc this seems pretty high. I'm just getting tired of it. It's lunch time and I'm at work eating leftovers watching guys talk about cheap trucks that blow my mind bc they seem so expensive. The Chevy 1/2 ton didn't seem too bad tho
Wish I could move to Colorado but went last month and it was below ⬇️ freezing 🥶
The Tacoma is a horrible deal compared to a Colorado zr2 pricing. Tacomas are not selling good at all
That single cab F-150 gives a lot more features and ca way nicer interior compared to that single cab Silverado 1500 and it’s less expensive.
So what I'm seeing is I'm not getting a new truck soon. I'm not paying $40K for a regular cab turbo full size truck.
40K for a pickup truck is NOT affordable! Who's side are these people on...?
The Mavericks are NOT trucks! I'll keep my diesel Colorado until it falls apart.
‘Great deals’ and ‘Cheap truck’ must mean something totally different to you guys than many of us. Comparing less bloated prices against fully bloated prices is like trying to get us ripped off less rather than fully ripped off. Silly episode.
Cheap is not a great descriptive word 😂😂😂😂😂 keep driving the old truck for a bit longer guys. Let these prices come back to 80s pricing 😂
in a free market country you can CHOOSE.
mahindra pick up = 16k
Mitsubishi l200 =24k
10 different model of Chinese pick up for 20k
russian uaz pick up or bukanha= 15k
izuzu, hilux, etc............................USA is close communist stile country now
The vehicles made in the states have mandated safety features, the scrap that rolls around other countries are not allowed on our interstates. Keep them in your third world country, they are of no use here
Love the Channel! Love the content! I’m sure it’s been explained before but I’m kinda new to the channel, where is Andre’s accent from?
Colorado
Andrey is Russian.
Guatemala? 😝
None of these trucks are “cheap.” As long as these manufacturers continue with this muppet pricing model then may all their inventory rot on their lots. We the people have the power.
We'd have to scale back to a base 4x2 with a 4cyl Camry engine to get back to under $30k prices, like the Maverick.
If they are so cheap you and Case should buy them
2.7l ecobeast Andre not 2.6l fyi I know you know, it was just a slip up
"Cheap trucks" 😂 maybe to a multimillionaire.
"small screen". 🤦. Plenty big enough to see GPS mapping, which is all I want a screen for.
(Still kinda wish I got the Raptor, but with everything I have done I’m just over $10 k less than the Raptor. Canadian dollars.
Thanks fellas!! This was fun to see!! 😊
