He didn’t want anyone to leave him and held onto those he wanted near him. He was trying to create a loving family. Some people when abused create different personalities to cope with different aspects of their life. Some people draw people into their life and control them to a degree. Prince was coping with his past all his life, trying to create a world for himself that included people he trusted and loved and that would never leave him as his father did. Impossible to manage and create. Women he included in his world were easier to control because of the man, woman dynamic. He kept everyone he liked in ‘boxes’ so he could move around picking his different boxes as he wanted. He needed a mentor to help him realise the harsh reality of what he was doing but he was too private. Nobody could help him and he got lonely, in so much pain and knew he was on a dangerous pathway. And mayte deceived too, telling oprah prince wrote " let's have a baby" then she did, but "let's have a baby was written after the fact. Still that's ok too. We got some more great songs from him.
Margi, your right, it must've been hard on prince. To be abandoned is the worst thing to happen to a human. And it happened to prince 4 times before he was 19 years old, his dad when he was only 7 years old and again at 13 John kicked him out for having sex. I don't know how he forgave his dad for that. That's probably why his head filled with music, to stop thinking about it. It worked though, John didn't speak to the media again after 86'.

Fantastic video, especially for me because it's my favorite Prince era. But I have to take some of the quotes from these peripheral folks ( like Jerome Benton ) with a grain of salt. I don't think Prince would bow to the NAACP and simply add more black musicians/singers/dancers to his touring band. That doesn't seem very "Prince" to me. The Revolution was already about as multi-cultural as you could get. I'd like to think he added members to his band to give it a more full sound - the live horns, the guitarist added so he could give more of himself as a singer and proper 'front-man.' The sexy dancer for, well, a little more sexy. And Sheila E. on drums because let's face it, she was a better drummer/percussionist that Bobby Z.
You're correct...it's mentioned in the documentary narration...Prince added to the band...sound...that's when you hear the horn section add flavor...People hear what they want to hear...Prince? Got his own mind...Who is the NAACP...to dictate to...they all draw pay checks...Hippo's.

To quote Prince, pun intended, he surely "juggled hearts like a three ring circus". I'm sort of surprised, yet not surprised he was involved with a dizzying amount of women. Prior to these clips, the only woman I've known him to claim was Mayte.
Well "news " prince was married 2 times and engaged to a third. He had 50 girlfriends in 4 decades, and a few of them were photographed holding hands which was rare. Sometimes prince had 3-4 girlfriends at the same time and in the same place "on stage " with him. He was a talented boy.
No not only Mayte. Manuela Testolini too (2nd wife). Both of them are the only ones he claimed, And they are the only 2 not in the industry. Both say they were fans of his.

Love prince but let’s not act like Prince is totally innocent. He constantly cheat on these women and often made them compete with each.
@@Lyleswl oh no, lol, not innocent. He even admits it. Not perfect. Just a theme of who he chose and why none lasted!!
@Tony Well he definitely was a ladies man. Lol
@@mindoknows8924 yeah unfortunately when you reach fame like prince unless you marry someone you were in love with before you became famous relationship is going to be tough
@Tony True for some or either most. I don’t consider Jill Jones, Shelia E, or Vanity gold diggers. And he cheated on all them. But he human and had flaws like everyone else.
Too many women and too much music. Dude was living in chaos.
yet living the dream

I love prince engineers Peggy and Susan
Funny how Ed McMahon brushed the gal in yellow away from the camera after Devin won Star Search.
Was wondering when someone would comment. I was rollin! 🤣😂
the extended version of this is better
Devin look like Vanity. Prince had a type.🤷🏾♂️😎
In Devin's book, she says Prince told her she looked like Vanity. I actually think she looks more like Apollonia, but in some pics I can see Vanity.
@@Dreamz19 Yes and Apollonia was hired as a replacement for Vanity so both Apples/Devin fall in the category of looking like Vanity.
Prince's second ex wife Manuela Testolini looks like Vanity too.
@Tony Devin resembles Vanity, Apollonia looks nothing like Vanity she's still pretty thou.
@@B.Jewels Prince was trying though- it took him a minute to stop trying to replace Vanity or make his women into Vanity's look. So yeah, all the push for Susannah as the one . . . OK.
I gave my beating heart to many women
Shut up already

Hard to see prince doing that, interesting that he felt the need to even say it, if untrue.
You're correct...it's mentioned in the documentary narration...Prince added to the band...sound...that's when you hear the horn section add flavor...People hear what they want to hear...Prince? Got his own mind...Who is the NAACP...to dictate to...they all draw pay checks...Hippo's.
Right!?! And Brownmark, Andre Cymone, Dez and Prince are ALL Black musicians? What tha?
Hey sinnik22 at my gym in brooklyn center mn , the guy who lent Prince his guitar the last known time he took the stage (Chanhassen) works out with me. I can connect you if ya like.
Think he’d like the show?
@@Sinnik22 he’s already up on it! I actually went to him last week since it was first time seeing him after covid and he ALREADY knew the demo- been watching it. He’s one of the best luthiers in town
LMK bruh, & nicely done

@@B.Jewels susannah Melvin wasn't in the industry and he tried for months to get her back. He loved her, so he says in his songs.
@@saa9099 That's different. She's a vocalist/songwriter and had ties in the industry cuz of her twin sister. I'm talking about no connections in biz.
@@saa9099 from what I can tell he and Lisa had a fling when she joined the Revolution. He went after Susannah cuz he "was in love w/Wendy" (Lisa quote) and he was living with Jill jones and Vanity while deciding if he wanted to break up with Susan. As he was dating the Dance instructor at the MDT and romancing some actress on the set of Purple Rain, talented boy indeed
So The Beautiful Ones was actually for Susannah?
No. It is hard to hear but the guy says Prince made it clear to him he hadn’t written the song for Susannah. He is referring to the Ebony interview where Prince said it wasn’t about her.
Women want to play the victim now but have always been down with being involved with potential issues that bring long-term drama. 🤦🤷🤣
