- After logging time in recent weeks on the current crop of 2024 450 MX bikes, we coordinated one giant day of back-to-back comparison testing that involved a private track, six bikes, a dozen new Maxxis tires, seven test riders, and a whopping 17 support technicians from the manufacturers to make sure the bikes were performing their best. When the dust settled, our panel of test riders arrived at a clear-cut winner for the 2024 450 MX Bike of the Year honors. Click play to see how the machines stacked up! For all the people complaining about them not talking about this bike or that bike…the title clearly reads THE BEST BIKE so that’s the bike they talk about. If you guys are such experts and think you can do a better job, do your own comparison so we can see it!
Kenny won 20 out of 24 motos on the old gen Suzuki when it was even more "outdated" than the one now. The bike is fine and it doesnt cost $10,000. Why keep bashing it? It has its place in the sport.

So lucky and so happy with it I’m a ex bodybuilder but riden for years I had tbe 21 model and had to seat bounce all the jumps at my track I liked it but felt uncomfy in the cock pit standing up
This is just amazing - flickable - light - fun hard to say that about a 450! Just smooth not much vibration to and kinda feels like a 2 stroke
For me it would be Yamaha or KTM all the way! Both bikes have outstanding engines that will last longest w/good basic maintenance. Kawi doesn't have best components & engine isn't up to Yamie or KTM standards. #Maxima #RangerTremor
pretty surprised Gypsy choose the YZ450 as his favorite considering all he talks about on his podcast is how 450's are "too powerful" these days.... Makes me wonder if all the testers kind of fed off of each other choosing the Yamaha?

SML on the money again, now the YZ is balanced and refined its hard to beat. Still want to try the Honda with 23.5 clamps and damper though.

@chazzgonzalez1356 Quality of its parts holds it bk for me. You can't go wrong w/Yamaha or KTM brands. They will hold up & engines last longest for all us non-Pro riders!
@@Davido50 I’ve owned both, KTM’s take more money to get dialed, suspension stock hurts my wrists, the power is way too mellow, vibrates a lot. I wasn’t too fond of it

My buddy just got a 24 yz450f and my other buddy has a 24 yz250 2 stroke,
Haven’t rode the 24 yz450 yet, so not sure how it will feel compaired to my Honda, but
so far out the showroom yes the Honda is a little interesting in the front at first, but man you just can’t beat that rider triangle , the bike just feels so nice between your legs so.
iv put the forks flush on my bike since the first 2 rides and wow it feels much better, the Hondas are very responsive to small changes i noticed so it should be fun fine tuning everything but I do agree with you as i still want to get 23-24 triple clamps.

Suzuki should have been included. Show the cost of each bike also. Score them in categories cost, performance, chassis, handling etc. It's still a relevant bike despite it's age as it is most affordable. As with the Yam you have scored it higher because you have applied your set up development experience. Apply that same development experience to the RMZ. Wouldn't have been hard to apply some of what was learned by riding Kenny's bike.
So the old Kawi is still the better bike since it won the shootout last year?

A good suggestion would be to list what the test riders ride personally so we can take that into consideration if they may have any personal bias involved that everyone has. Could list it it with their name when you first show their part of the video. Just a suggestion.

I love and miss my Yamaha. I went to the KTM 350 to get a platform that’s a little bit more friendly to my arms and bum 😊
The KTM 350SXF is basically considered the best all around dirtbike made today! Plus KTM engines last longest w/good basic maintenance.
@@Davido50 I really love it too. It’s an awesome bike. Power is strong but more manageable, and it’s way easier to turn. Suspension surprised me at being pretty decent too. I have no issues with it.
I rode my buddies 350. I likethe torque of my 450. Found it easier to jump out of corners and be lazy on the 450 😆

The new kawi sounds like it’s got a banana in the muffler. If the 24 Kx450 engine is lacking without any engine changes that can only mean two things... either the new muffler has in fact a banana in it, or the air box is seriously lacking air flow.
there is a plug in the air flow so the water doesnt get in and you can get that out and the bike will get much more air

@@swapmotolive. absolutely! You guys put in a lot of production effort. Some people just don’t understand the logistics involved with getting all these people together, all bikes in the same track, at the same time, having mechanic reps for each brand, setting the sag, handlebar positions, clickers, etc… for each one of the riders, and then, to top things off. Filming each one with proper audio and visuals around the track to visually highlight what each one of the riders is emphasizing from each bike.

Next time it would be very helpful to know the test rider's skill levels
They’ve always been good about including Novice through Advanced riders in their tests, and riders of varying ages too. Swap is definitely the most thorough test each year.
You have a national level Pro Rider there, A-Ray, followed by Patt Foster and Rene Garcia, then you have Kyle and Connor as your Intermediates, followed by Don and the older dude as Vets. They always do an excellent job at including different skill sets.
Really decent and honest review. . . Not like those biased motocross action idiots. It's been the KTM brands 1 2 and 3 for the last how many years, they don't even hide their bias. It's a joke so it's good to see a proper review here

Best get some more 'average speed' testers (as that is the majority of buyers), and also use laptimes.

Don't get me wrong I think Suzuki have their place in the market but for yearly shootouts/reviews, everything that had be to said on them has been since the 2019 shootouts, nothing new since / nothing else to say, expect the very same results.
My take away: Yamaha paid more for promotion than other manufacturers.
My take away is you are a butt hurt KTM owner.

Cramming tech into bikes that 90% of riders don’t need, I was never a team Suzuki but a simple bike with a kicker sign me up oh and 6k brand new, no brainer

Hopefully more test sessions leave out Suzuki. I love Suzuki, but they REALLY need to revamp the bikes. Maybe this will help push them to change in 2025.

A good rider on a Suzuki can be faster than an average rider on a Yamaha for 2/3 of the price. Suzuki is becoming more relevant as cost of bikes increases. For the most part Suzuki is still competitive enough for the weekend rider and financially more accessible. If anything testers could leave out the Husky. An expensive bike and the least liked on test. If Suzuki do a major revamp they will have to sell it for heaps and it will loose it's appeal to a lot of people. Suzuki could however listen to the testers and make a few tweaks. Rear shock valving and 250 clamps and forks seem to go a long way in improving some of the 450 short comings.

Something fishy going on when you compare this year's shootout to last year's. KX450 was unchanged two years in a row last year and won. YZ450 was all new last year and came second. KX is all new this year and every review has said it's as good as last year's bike or better. Last year SML said the YZ came second because of "uncharacteristic nervousness from the front end".
And couldn't agree more with the guy who questioned why they included 3 KTMs but no Suzuki. Just pure laziness.

Only one the riders preferred the mellower powerband the KX provides, that’s why it came in 2nd.
My bet in a race, it’ll be the Yamahas taking the holeshot, but the Kawis bringing in the trophies. To continuously rip a 450, will wear you out. Would be nice if we all could test ride them. Lol I’d probably go Yamaha. I have a 22, and it’s tuner app does a good job with mellowing out the hit. Also
Super reliable, and runs like a top! If I wasn’t getting a Stark, I’d get a 23/24 Yz450f. Still might trade up for a used one, as they pop
up every once in a while.
If you would listen to our test riders, they mentioned how the setting Yamaha wanted our test riders to use last year was not favored. This year they were able to tweak the bike how they wish.

@jacobdolph37 because every test rider names off a lot of things they like, and sometimes things you can do to make it even better. I like to hear all about it and I enjoy watching footage of them riding it etc. It's a slap in the face to those of us that ride RMZ's and have success and FUN on them. Its more bike than 98% of people can even ride to full potential. But keep spending money on overhyped KTM junk. Not even the pros wanna ride the ktm450. And before you say sexton, the kids a head case and would've ridden ANYTHING to get away from Honda and Jett.

No Suzuki...How lame is thatt? Just because it hasn't changed in however many year isn't a legit reason not to include it. It won a Supercross main event this year. And ran up from in an outdoor race. Not to mention, everyone seem to think the previous generation KTM was better than the latest model. Using your logic with the Suzuki, why are you testing all three colors of the new KTM that's not as good as the old one? I believe Beta has a 450 that is actually all new. Being that new is so important un this shootout, why don't we see it here? And since the Kawasaki is actually the only new bike, shouldn't this be a shootout between it and the Beta? As you said, all the others are unchanged. What gives?

That's bullsh!t not including the Suzuki, a new model bike does NOT mean it is a better bike, plus the Suz comes with an aftermarket muffler, so it has changed. Not a "shootout" unless they are all there.

okay, go and buy yourself a ktm, write me later what do you think about buying a bike for almost 11k with unridebale crap suspension🤡 oh, by the way, you also cannot reprogram your ecu on ktm, because they blocked it on purpose, so, if you want to buy an aftermarket exhaust, you also need to buy get ecu to reveal the pontentional of the engine, and it still will have LESS bottom end power than stock yz. i’ve been a ktm guy for 10 years, because i am a pro racer and used to ride only wide open, and none of the 250 have that fresh top end, but i am tired to pay hudge money only for this, because in other things bike is a crap (really). That is the reason why i don’t trust guys like josh mosiman, since he came to mxa as a major test rider ktm have won every 250 shootout (before ktm won none)
