  • Hi all and welcome back to the channel, i am back at the sawmill and ive got some 4x4s to mill up for a customer. These should be quick and fairly straight forward with no issues.
I like milling things like this because theyre quick and can be calculated quickly to see what i can get out of them.
As always, leave a comment or send me an email at nick.garton@hotmail.com with anything.
Thank you all as always, everyone of you guys are awesome 👍

Hey Nick. Hello from NB Canada. My mill wasn't idling properly. The governor spring wasn't hooked up from the factory, and the throttle cable was in the wrong hole on the carb. Fixed those two issues, and she purrs now. I always flip my logs 180 degrees for the second cut. I bought the winch from Frontier. What a game changer on large logs.
    Always enjoy your video's!!

Thank you very much buddy 👍 servicing is normally kept right, i know the oil change is due so that will get done very soon but regarding the carb, it ran fantastic and then all of a sudden it starts surging. I was going to remove the carb but its now cleared itself and is running very nice again.
      Thank you again 😀

Good to see you out at the mill. I see you have a stack of flitches to cut. We need an edger.
That carb sounds sick lol. I bet it's dirty. The maintenance I need to do as well. Nice video buddy

Hey Jerry pal, yes its not often i feel im at the mill now a days but we got on it for a couple of days and managed to get some work done on it.
Yes i have loads and they are stacking up and i really hate re working flitches, not too bad when there is a square edge on one of them but when its live edge all round, i end up wasting too much.
An edger would be awesome and im just waiting for someone else other than Woodmizer to bring one out over here.
Yeah the carb dont sound good at all but guess what, its cleared itself and is now back running sweet as usual, so there must have been some dirt in there somewhere.
Im sure yours will get a much deserved maintenance day before mine does 😆
Thank you as always brother 👍

Nothing wrong with killing some time on the mill and making a short vid!
The thing is these days here in U.S. lumber is $1 a board foot from the big lumber yards. Hardly any money to be made for the small sawyer. Hopefully your part of the world is going better. Take care and keep on cutting!

Thank you for commenting buddy, yeah i dont mind milling when ive done all the other jobs i have acquired along the way. I have so much on at the moment, i have actually stopped taking orders so i can catch up with the list of jobs needed.
I feel you there buddy and i am seeing the same with prices here also, where we dont use dollars per brd foot, i look for the cheapest place who sells wood and slightly undercut them, however recently i am seeing some products i mill, cheaper to buy in bulk loads compared to me buying it. That seems the way the UK is in right now. Not sure how long this will last though.
Hopefully we can get back on top of the wood game at some point, thank you again 👍

My mills engine pulses as well, if I leave the choke out just a bit it runs smooth, I think the carb needs cleaning.

Do you still have your Chinese mini , Is it still holding up well?

Hi and thank you for commenting. yes i still have the mini ex, unfortunately i cant say anything good about it, the single cylinder engine that is fitted to it is just worse than anything ive ever operated. The controls have started to become a little cumbersome and contact the tracking levers when operated a certain way.
I have just completed 3.5 days work with it and it did do very well in running for 8.5 hours a day without fail.
Ive had to replace hoses as ive broken them so thats part and parcel of it. one of the track motors is a bit slower than the other so it crabs.
If i was in the market for another one, id go for a bit more of a premium 1.5t plus machine with the Kubota or Yanmar engines with the integrated track motors and the expanding tracks.
I hoope this is of some help, my machine has 214 hours on and looks like it has done 2140 hours 😆
