The Bee Gees deserve every award etc. they have received. There was a time when they were wrongly underestimated but they have shown the world just how great they were . Barry in his 70's started touring with 2 of his son's and he's still got it.
These guys work so hard and so many hours. They weren't club goers or ones to party with their fans. Barry said when he saw his wife it was love at first sight and in a recent interview they're walking along holding hands and you can just see how in love they still are. It's refreshing seeing them being so famous and always girls loving them and they honored their families. Barry said family was always important and he always knew he wanted that.
I understand exactly what you are saying. When I feel unsure by the time I listen to it the third time, I wouldn't change a thing. Usually the songs of theirs I'm not sure about end up being one of my favorites.
You still have so many more Bee Gees, songs to get through. Night time Broadway, Jive talkin,One, More than a woman, You should be dancing, Massachusetts, words, run to me, How deep is Your Love, night fever, so many so many more.
Bee Gees trivia time, The opening scene on the speedboat is a ride from Moe's house, past their parents house, to Barry's house on Biscay Bay, Miami Florida. They chipped in and bought their parents house directly in between Moe and Barry. This was tour, "Spirits Having Flown" tour, that Andy was suppose to join them as a Bee Gee which is why he was featured a bit in the video.
That is Barry's house in Miami. The sound you want to be more aggressive wouldn't work as this is a light and airy tune. Also, this has a Caribbean flavor to it. They picked up a lot of influences like that from southern Florida. The following; One and Blue Island also give that same vibe. Earlier in the video there is a still of Andy when they were 1st playing Volleyball. Barry, especially was/is family orientated. He said that everything he does and has done has been for family. He sent Andy off to Austrailia to live with their sister Leslie to get used to performing in front a live audience, etc. before calling him back to the states. Barry produced and wrote Andy's three number 1 hits and the brothers sang back up on the recordings too.
Loved your comment about Mt. Rushmore….so funny. The flashing of their head shots in the sky was very Hunger Games” lol. I have adored these guys for over 50 years. They are icons, yet they are humble. I’ve always loved this song/video because it is so unique, and the video makes me feel like a guest in Barry’s home, watching home movies ❤️
They wrote the instrumental part deliberately so. As Barry explained way back in an interview promoting the Spirits album, he said they were looking for a fluttery sound, a sound that would represent a feeling of flight. They got flutist Herbie Mann in and he adlibbed the sounds on his flute and that was exactly what they were looking for. Something airy that would remind the listener of flying. Andy passed away from myocarditis.
"a sound that would represent a feeling of flight" -- thank you. That's exactly the feeling I have listening to that part. I love this song precisely because of those musical transitions. It's almost like three songs combined into one. This is one of my favorite Bee Gees songs. It surprises me that it didn't become better known.
I hear what you are saying about wanting a more robust instrumental part of the song. When i first heard this without the video those were my sentiments. Then, like you, the instrumental section grew on me. I feel like it has a Cuban Calypso sound to it, with the island bongo drum in the background. Love it! Yes, it grows on you! The video is perfect too & sweet! ❤❤🎉❤❤
Andy was always a part of their lives. They wrote all his songs and sang in the back ground. He was going to be in their band but died from inflammation of his heart. He had stopped the drugs and was living in England with Robin when he died.
This video is also used in their one night only tour in 1997, however with a different song called Wish you Were Hear, as a tribute to Andy and at the end of the song a drawing of Andy comes on the Screen.🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
They sure weren't born into the "millionaire lifestyle". When they were kids they had to bathe in cold water, went hungry, often eating catsup sandwiches, and neighbors would offer the kids food because they were so skinny and malnourished. They would move in the night every couple of months to stay ahead of the landlords. The father was a bit of a flop when it came to supporting the family and never seemed to make enough to pay the bills, relying on the kids to keep the family solvent. They even split up the kids for a while separating them to stay with relatives. As Robin said, when their father heard them singing, "Dad had dollar signs around his eyes and quit his job at the tripe factory". In their bio there were a few funny stories about having no money. Their mom said her husband never gave her flowers like the neighbor's husband did. Shortly after she saw two pairs of scrawny legs coming down the street (the twins) hidden by a wreath bigger than themselves, that had a ribbon saying "RIP", LOL. They were also pretty good at shoplifting. Barry was on parole at 12 for theft and Robin threatened with reform school at 9 for arson. The Manchester police suggested moving to Australia. They left school at 13 and music saved their hides. In spite of little education, they were very clever and well spoken, especially Robin who was a voracious reader and walking encyclopedia according to his brothers and was President of the British Heritage Society (historical) for years.
I loved the song. I thought it was great. Glad you came around.A beautiful song is Happy Ever After would love to see your reaction to it. Thanks..A fan
I only discovered this song recently and love it. I love the light airy feel to it, the build up and the instrumental ending. Robin's gravestone has "his spirit has flown" on it in reference to this song. Janet has pointed out to me I was wrong and it says "our songbird has flown".
First concert I ever attended was the Spirits Having Flown tour at The Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City... 1977, I think. That night we saw their tour airplane taking off. That was a great night!
This song was a great background tune while showing the BEE GEES and their families having normal fun on a beautiful summer day. Really liked it! Great reaction, Hap! 🥰 good song choice Pearl E.!😊
Oh wow, I did find it to be quite calming toward the end. And maybe Andy was shown because they were showing family. IDK. But their incomparable harmonies were on point as usual. But anyway, another great reaction HAP!!🌻🌻
Cheesy? If spirits fly, too much basslines and rockin' drums would suddenly get them down to the ground! Just let your fantasy flow! Barry sang it on his 'Mythology Tour' and got standing ovations! And you can see him fly, I swear! Just check it out to see that I'm truthing. To find on YT.
Thanks for your great reaction to this song. Listen to it a couple more times-- it's got a Carribean "flavor" and it sounds so beachy-carefree!. You may want to hear their REAL tribute to Andy that made them too emotional to include on their performance playlist "Wish You Were Here." Great song ruclips.net/video/7TNExdndhRA/видео.html The Brothers chose a song they worked with Andy on, which was a hit for him-- "{Our Love]Don't Throw it All Away." Barry and the twins sing the intro, then it's Andy's singing that takes over until the end when the BeeGees sing harmony. You'll notice how silmilar Andy's voice is to Barry's. It is a great song, too. ruclips.net/video/WYvLv5SnNyk/видео.html
Hey HAP. To me this is a happy go lucky song of theirs. Loved seeing them with their families and also with Andy. I have never seen that video before. I have heard the song. Great reaction. Thank you HAP for showing this video. Take care my brother and have a good evening. Your girl, QUEEN BEE.
I love when reactors say their honest opinions about songs. This is from their falsetto period. Maybe you should try some Bee Gees songs that are a bit different from that. How about Bee Gees- Wind of Change Spirits Tour (Good Audio), 1974 Bee Gees-Mr Natural (Complete & Good Sound) or Bee Gees - Morning of My Life 1972. These songs are not the most famous, but they are all really good!
This song sounds to me like something they really did on vacation, without putting much effort into it, a bit lazy vibe, easy going, as you said, dedicated to their families..It was nice to see Andy there with them though!
Love this song ,title track from the album. I'm old enough to have bought the original vinyl back in the day and worn out the grooves over the years. They were looking for a fun, floating sound and I'm going to disagree with you too Hap. A more synthesizer sound wouldn't have been in that vibe. It's just a feel good beachy song. All 3 brothers had houses on the same street in Miami. That's Barry's house and the 4th person getting out of the boat at the start is famous UK Interviewer David Frost. That bit is taken from a TV Interview he did with them inside Barry's house in 1978.
I love this track. I think it was only released in the UK so its little known elsewhere. I think you're right that we have this dichotomy of light easy listening with this big hitter chorus, its strangely what I like about it, it's so at odds with the chorus. The end makes you want more chorus for sure and maybe that's why I keep going back to it! Rather odd going through their family album to it too. Definitely a quirky one.
Wow Hap, interesting how our thoughts on this song are so similar. When the song got to the end and the sound and visuals came together in a ethereal way, it all seemed to work. 💕🎶❤ I enjoyed seeing the family interaction⚽️ and love, especially with the kids. The chorus seems to fit if they were singing about the feelings of family. Good one. Peace J ✌ ☮ PS. Your music is life t-shirt is the bomb!💣💥

First of all, I like your top. 👕 Oh, I loved that cheesy part a lot. In fact, beautiful voices and the video. Great reaction Hap! You seem you were falling into the song. 😎💙
LOL I was going to comment on the shirt also. I remember it vaguely from a box opening video. If the person who sent it reads this.....where did you get it? My kid would love it!
Yes, it’s Mt Rushmore in the USA. I love ❤️ seeing famous bands enjoying themselves with their families! I never really followed The BeeGees but that was a great song 🎶 and I wish it was longer. As always my dear friend great reaction. Love ❤️ from across the pond, Dee
The woman in the white bikini is Linda, Barry's wife. The two children on the tryke that goes onto the tennis court are two of Barry's oldest children. The girl that is trying to pick up the animal is Robin's daughter. All four of the brothers are walking at the top of the cliff.
I think the feeling they were going for was transcendence. The song builds and then it goes to another place that is so in tune and serene, almost like two lovebirds getting entangled and then moving on as one (lyrically a very impressive song on that front, a very spiritual view of love). I could listen that outro forever - the flutes, congas, synth humming, vocal background. Barry did a rare live performance of this for his mythology tour and it's nice to see the visuals of clouds as Barry pretends he is flying, transcending. ruclips.net/video/nFeJPYTVsOU/видео.html
What Barry Gibb said was an intentional "fluttery" sound was a big mistake, especially using it at the end fade out. It feels out of place and ruins what I think could have been one of their greatest songs. The music, the light and airy singing going into the intense chorus and those magical lyrics. I always stop it when it gets to that out of place bull...t again, which totally clashes with what is such an intense song. Also, showing their holiday videos in this "official video" is complely out of place.

Their families were their everything. Andy was in the whole 🎥. A day at the beach 🏖 with their family. ❤️
Always makes me happy to see Andy's sweet face.
This is one of my favorites, in my 70's and I always play this dancing around the old farm house with a glass of wine. Takes me back to a better time.
I am in the "I love this song" category.
Andy was shown playing with his brothers on the beach just as he looked back at the camera

It just seems like a south Florida type of sound. Calypso. A reflection of the environment they lived, loved, and worked.
They wrote the instrumental part deliberately so. The orchestration and instrumentation at the end is genius and inspired. The endless repeat of the melody gives you comfort and is really "uplifting."
