I never seen one like that before, I never looked for it as I always resoldered without it and did not have a need for it - this time I did and it was great to discover that they took 2 different ideas and married them like that.

Thanks for your video, really helpful. Beginner here - why do you add solder before removing it?

    • @fluidfix

There are many reasons to do that. 1. good practice lol , 2 depending how old your device is there might be different solder used that is harder to melt and requires bigger temperatures and if you add solder from 21st century it mixes it with old lowering temperature required to melt, 3 When your tip have solder there is bigger area of contact hence it transfers heat quicker, when you have enough solder on it is actually easier to remove it as you minimise the gap creation when you start removing it making it easier to maintain suction evenly and allowing to pull all solder from the hole as there is a force at play that is pulling solder from the gap and the other side of the board and that would be much harder with just what was on there. Hope that helps you out.
      Stay safe and happy.

@@fluidfix thanks for the very quick reply! I've just desoldered my first capacitor, and your video helped me do it. Nice one.

Well done. I bet it was not as hard as you made it in your mind. Now just stay on it. Have same approach to other things and do not stray from seeking the knowledge that you can find everywhere you look in todays world. Good job.

This video could have been half this length or less.
