    The first week of university was truly awful. I let all the comments about uni being way harder than high school get to my head and therefore was on my best behaviour and gave 200% of my brain for each task. I couldn‘t sleep because I would continue thinking about my first assignment which we had a week for and after I had turned that in I was absolutely dead on the inside and the outside 💀
    So, my advice for new college student is - chill, you got this. Get good sleep and just trust that you will get used to how uni works. But also I feel like it‘s completely normal if the first few days/week(s) are a bit rough.

    • @dabroly5195
      @dabroly5195 7 месяцев назад +3

      Bro you have no idea how much I needed this. I recently changed my enrollment to the spring semester because I suffered a panic attack as the fall semester was starting soon. I’ve seen so many videos and memes talking about how college will ruin you mentally, and how hard it is. I couldn’t sleep for a month just thinking about it or even enjoy any hobbies. I understand it’ll be challenging but I want to try and chill and enjoy my time once i start.

    • @Lauratrickfilm
      @Lauratrickfilm 7 месяцев назад +4

      @@dabroly5195 Sorry to hear how much the upcoming start of uni got to your head! And I'm glad you recognized that it was too overwhelming and delayed your enrollment 👌😌
      It's completely understandable that after high school, university seems like this huge, difficult thing where everything will suddenly increase drastically in difficulty. No wonder that moving towards that in terms of enrollment time getting closer and closer, it wore you out before uni even started.
      Here's a few tips: first of all, and I know this sounds dumb but, starting uni could help. Now, don't get me wrong, if it lowers your quality of life as much as it just did, taking a break and being able to breathe and live again is the absolute right choice. What I mean is that when you have a lot of time to think about how uni will be, it can easily happen that your brain spins it into some kind of horror scenario which may be far from the truth, which you wouldn't know as you can't compare these expectations to the real thing if it hasn't happened yet.
      For me, my breakdown in the first week was in a way necessary as I was also viewing uni as this super difficult thing where if I miss a second of a lecture, I might fail. I wish the breakdown didn't happen as it was a lot emotionally and physically, but it was important early on to realize that I don't have to be a "straight A" student and that I was the only one applying that pressure onto myself. Furthermore that uni is not the scientific bootcamp that I was expecting. Realizing that and working on more realistic expectations for myself made me able to relax a bit and enjoy aspects of university like the like-minded people you meet or even genuinely interesting and fun lectures. I think it's important to try to focus on the positives: what do you look forward to? What would be your ideal uni experience? Because the opposite of that question can easily be a downwards spiral.
      Uni definitely is different than high school but two things: first of all it's absolutely possible to adjust to the new rhythm, even if it takes some time and second of all the biggest and imo best difference to high school is that you're no longer forced to sit in mandatory classes that you had no influence on but instead you get to choose the overarching topic of every lecture. Now, some lectures will still be more fun than others and thereby either easier or more difficult and uni can certainly be challenging even once you find your rhythm but there are a bunch of great things that await you as well! Personally, beside the topic of my study I really appreciated how much nicer the people there were. High school can be kinda shitty in terms of other people but in uni I found that people on average are more calm and genuinely nice as well as cool because you automatically have a mutual interest 😄
      I can just recommend focusing on these aspects. As well as talking to friends and family about how you feel and later on with students as well because istg if you find yourself struggling with an assignment, you're most definitely not alone with that feeling. Which may not sound like mich but it should tell you that these moments where you're overwhelmed are completely normal and you're not the only one.
      I wish you all the best, I hope you're currently getting to experience some good things in your life again and get to let that anxiety cool down a bit. You got this! 💪😎

      @@Lauratrickfilm Thanks so much, i've relaxed and chilled out somewhat in the last month but during that stressing out period a couple months ago and literally just getting out of high school i've never felt so overwhelmed and pressured in my life and i haven't even started college yet lmao. Tbh im still really worried about starting, but when that time comes i hope to learn that i will experience ups and downs throughout my journey. At the end of the day college isn't the end all be all and if it isn't for me i won't hesitate to drop out. Also I won't lie im a little introverted and deal with some sort of social anxiety but im hoping to get experiences out of college that i've never got to experience in my entire life. Despite not having a clear path or idea on what im going to do in college or what im suppose to do afterwards but im hoping that im able to get some sort of character development lol.
      But anyway, thanks for the words of encouragement i really appreciate it and best to luck on your journey as well.👍

Everyone who thought the dress code was stupid sat on the left side of the class, while those who thought it was perfectly fine (only 1 guy thought it was fine, and this class had more girls than guys) sat on the right. Man, that was a fun day.

      @ialc 8 месяцев назад +6

      @bmallow170 From what I understand, a lot of girls in my school don't like how they have more restrictions on what they can wear compared to guys. With guys, it's just the typical no shirts with drugs, weed, sex, stuff like that. With girls, it goes into stuff like croptops, length of their shorts, bra strap sizes, etc. Tbh, I do agree that some stuff in the dressscode is kind of dumb, but I've seen a lot of girls get away with a lot of stuff before. Nothing crazy like showing nipples or anything, but some stuff that would most likely break some rules from the dress code. This is probably because most of the teachers at my my school are chill at don't really care about dress code too much.

    The best part is when it’s over. When you get to finally work in peace and there’s no more study. As someone who hates school with a pasión, the satisfaction I felt the day it was finally over will last me a lifetime. Just thinking about it makes me feel butterflies in my stomach.

    Honestly it’s wild. I’d see these vids and scroll to the 5th to 6th grades. Im a sophomore now, hoping to graduate early. Time is crazy.

    Nah, fourth grade was the year I cried a lot, Fifth grade was just getting yelled at a lot by a teacher if we had a good reason for forgetting to do our homework
