To your point why people trash places, in my opinion, i think it also depends how it collapsed when it did. If it collapsed with revolution and groups of people fighting then yeah, the place will be trashed. If it collapsed due to some sickness, it might be left untouched or at least not maintained. But if people had to barricade, run for their lives, you will have a lot of materials being stripped from the walls and used by people to create barricades, and temporary shelters in a hurry.
That is true. I get the barricades and things but I didn't think about a possible revolution before it all hit the fan. That would make sense for the spray paint everywhere too.
