I had imposter syndrome pretty much through my whole 38-year IT career as a programmer, analyst, systems analyst. It does get easier as time goes by but probably never really goes away. Broccoli by the way.
I love your videos. The way you talk and express yourself so calmly, it's great. I'm also inspired by your videos and they motivate me a lot when I'm feeling a bit down to keep on studying my CS degree 🥦
Hi Mayte! Thank you for your kind comment, I really appreciate it 🤗 I know it can be hard sometimes during your studies - I remember I had so many nights where I wanted to give up and was thinking to myself "why am I even doing this". But I'm glad I pushed through because I could have never imagined where I would end up. I guess I just want to motivate others who might be in the same situation and tell people that there are soooo many different opportunities and paths in tech and that you don't necessarily have to follow that ordinary 9-5 job life living in the same city for the rest of your life. 🌴🤗 Hang in there, you got this 💪🏼
Iris I'm a software engineer too and wanted to be a graphic designer and changed to computer science by chance and also I have the imposter syndrome, I think that you are great inspiration and I love to watch your videos 🥦🥦 please keep update!
No way, what a coincidence! 🥳 So cool to get to know other software engineers with similar interests! Thank you for your kind comment, I really appreciate it and I'm super happy you enjoy my content :)
I admire you...i have completed 26 years in April 2022... I m in Capgemini right now... although i am learning everyday to become remote developer ... You inspire me ..much love 💕💕
Hi, what you accomplished is really impressive. Thank you for doing this, I was definitely inspired to give it a try. I will check what other content you have shared, thank you so much. Broccoli
Heyyyy... First of all let me say BROCCOLI! 🤣🤣🤣 Second of all of like to thank you a ton for making these creative, informative, and intriguing videos because I seriously wouldn't know what I would do without them..... The main thing I like about your content, is how HONEST you are.... Most "tech" content creators don't really give you an honest overview of their life, duties, responsibilities, experience... You on the other hand do it beautifully.... I actually just started studying Computer Science a month ago in Riga, Latvia... And the main reason is because I was sooo jealous of you... Your life is perfectly setup... In a way, I wanted to turn out like you! Travel, work remotely, explore and be me! So thank you Iris.... And keep up the good work.... One last thing, your channel is going to become something wayyyy bigger than what it is now in a couple of months... Trust me 🙂
Hi there! This is the kindest comment I have ever received, thank you so much for taking your time and reaching out 🤗 You have no idea how happy I am to hear how much of a difference my videos make and that they actually inspire people to follow the same path. 🙌🏼✨ I remember being in university struggling with my courses and exams and I had a couple moments where I was close to giving up because it was so hard and I thought to myself "why am I even here". I am glad I pushed through because I could have never imagined to be where I am today. (Also, to whoever else reads this who didn't go to university, you don't need a degree to become a software engineer - I work with so many people who are self taught!) I just want to uplift others and show them that there are soooo many possibilities with a career in tech and it doesn't have to be the regular boring 9-5 job living in the same city for the rest of your life. I always knew this is not my path and I want to see the world and live in different countries while learning more about other cultures and making friends from all over the world 🌴🥳 Always remember that you are capable of following a completely different path than everyone else and don't let anyone tell you that your dreams are impossible to reach! All the best for your studies, I heard Riga is the perfect place to study anything tech related 🍀😊
@@iris-tabea Thank you for replying! Again, wishing you the best of luck in your career and in what comes next in your journey. Keep going! And never give up!!!!♥️
4 mins into the vlog. You're definitely a motivator and inspiration to many who want to live that remote life in different countries. That's sounds like a fantastic way to live. I've had other vloggers talk about imposter syndrome. In her case the vlogger didn't think she deserved the quick success she made with a high position and promotions. So imposter syndrome can be many ways. You shouldnt feel that. Even the best programmers can get stuck on a coding issue.
Just started watching your videos, they are really great, i'm getting into software engineering right now and after watching them i started to think how great it would be to work with people from other countries. Broccoli
You did a great choice not to be scared of leaving an easy and regular life and following your dreams: whatever will happen, you will have no regrets! Passion and ambition are always great drivers in life and that's why - from what you tell things - things are going very well for you, both as software engineer and as a RUclips, so keep up the good work! Question: are you still planning to travel visit new countries (e.g. the Netherlands have an amazing tech scene for software engineers) or planning to settle in Mallorca for a longer term? Looking forward to your next video! 🥦
Hi Roberto, thank you for your comment and kind words ☺️ I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I am currently in Mexico after traveling to San Francisco, new videos are coming soon 😉
Hey, really enjoying your videos. I work in AI consulting & am considering upping my Python knowledge and moving towards more of a data science / ML engineer role… Also want to move to Switzerland from UK (saw your video on that). Anyway not much to say other than I share a lot of your ambitions (an interesting and lucrative tech career that gives the freedom to travel, also possibly having a bit of a creative outlet via RUclips/podcasts), and you should keep making RUclips vids because they’re good and you’re good 👍
Hi there! Thanks for leaving a comment, it’s always great to hear what others are up to and I really appreciate you taking your time to write this 👋🏼 AI consulting sounds super interesting!! I wish you all the best ✨
I really like a saying which goes "It's better to regret what you have done that what you haven't." Actually, I left my previous job to work as a remote software developer as well, and am quite happy about that. Broccoli, by the way :)
In one one your videos you mentioned you have a mentor in Canada. Can you talk about how you found them? I’ve been trying to find one but I have no luck. 😊
Hi Jennifer ☺️ My mentor is one of my coworkers, he’s a more experienced software engineer who was assigned to help me in the beginning stages of my new job. Hope that answers your question. Sadly I have no idea where to find mentors outside a company you work for.
3:43 The older generation grew up with the idea of having one stable job with a company and being loyal to them for 30-40 years, then getting the gold watch and the pension... the reality of the workplace is not like this for Milennials and Gen Z anymore. Companies almost seem to punish loyalty now and jumping jobs is the way to go.
Why do so many German-speaking Europeans speak at least two other languages? Is it because the languages are somewhat similar in ways? I always think it's pretty impressive. Broccoli gang 🥦 💪
Hi there! Thanks a lot for commenting, I really appreciate it :) In Europe it's quite normal to speak more than one additional language since we grow up learning multiple languages in school ☺️ Hope that answers your question.

Hi there 😊 It is never too late to go back to university if you feel like that's what you want to do!
