- This is from a radio broadcast on March 28, 1939.
I can find no record of it being recorded by Harry James. It was included in a foreign release of the actual soundtrack of "Young Man With a Horn."
This was listed as a "bonus track."
It clearly is Harry and his 1939 band. with Claude Lakey on tenor, Dave Matthews on alto, and Harry playing lead trumpet, with a brief solo.
The drummer is Mickey Scrima, and Jack Gardner on piano. Видеоклипы
Fantastic! I love Harry's band in those early scuffling days. The instrumentals were always first-rate.
This is fab!! Thanks for sharing it here!! Young Man With a Horn was one of my grandpa's favorite movies - for obvious reasons. How cool that this track is so obscure yet so unmistakably Harry!
Chuck, you never cease to amaze me with this great stuff. It was only two months since leaving BG and maybe one month into his new band, then this great recording by Harry. His band was fantastic and HJ was truly up to it. As always a great solo. Thank you Chuck and please keep it up!
I'm always looking for new things Ray!
What a hot band!
Only one "like?"
This has been up more than just a little while.
thanks for posting. Harry is playing good!!!
HA! Harry always played good!
Back when you really "had to play the drums." I hear a lot of Chick Webb in Mickey's playing.
Dick Haymes said Mickey Scrima was the loudest drummer he ever heard.
@@ChuckParDueMusic I spent some time with Dick's son Richard at North Texas State in 74. A messed up guy, real juicer and stoner.
@@acedrumminman dead now
@@acedrumminman ; Was he attending the music school part?
I heard Lionel taught there.
