Im a guy but have been watching you for months. Thank you . youve helped me so much! Ive always loved to take care of my skin. But lately youve branched into makeup! It makes me giddy becauses think of everyone youve helped! You should be so proud!
I love using Vaseline cocoa butter for my lips. It smells like chocolate 🍫 and it doesn’t do nothing to my lips. People say Vaseline is not good for your lips, but everyone is different
Also toothpaste! I have so many allergies and it never occurred to me that I could have an allergy to common toothpaste ingredients. I started using an SLS free toothpaste and now my lips are just normal dry and respond a lot better to lip balms. It might be toothpaste if you notice issues in your mouth as well like sloughing skin.
I’m not sure if ClingPro toothcream by 3M might be when you could try. It’s pricey around 15USD (I’m in Australia), it’s like a Denshaw grade toothpaste although it’s actually a tooth cream. It’s like a bit of getting used to, because it’s not like peppermint minty Standard toothpaste type flavoured: but my dentist recommended it to me a few years ago when my teeth were having a lot of problems - no problems there. Yes it’s been the foot and toothpaste and my mouthwash is approximately half the price. It’s just easier to say that the quoteprices because I’m in Australia. So for anyone else in Oz, dentists often recommend the Neutroflour 220 mouthwash - lots of people go to the chemist and pay AU$12 or $13 for 56 g of that brand in toothpaste. But in the one I mentioned, clingPro I get 112 g of toothpaste or tooth cream I should say for around $20-$22 Australian (I buy online in bulk, so the Moorad by the less it makes the postage is in the $10 I paid postage. Are used to buy a years supply at once but this past year I think I bought about eight tubes which is more than two years supply. And yes cost to fortune but it really made that $10 in delivery work - I got the guy to check the use by date on the actual boxes it was sending me before I did say and the years but has a few years on it. Don’t ask me how I started talking about this. Best of luck
I’ve tried so many hydrating SPF lip balms for years, and so far the ones that have worked for me and I love are the Vanicream SPF (mineral), and Coola Suncare Liplux Sport Original Formula Lip Balm Sunscreen SPF 30 (chemical) . Hope that helps some of you out 😁
Drinking a good amount of water and staying away from coffee helped me tremendously. I still exfoliate my lips twice a week gently with sugar and honey, and of course I use a good nourishing balm daily. I jog daily and do a 1 hour cardio work out and apparently I keep my mouth open so I have to drink a lot more water now
I'm so glad to hear you recommend Vaseline! A few years ago I developed some sort of reaction to whatever lip balm I was using (I never wear makeup, and always choose sensitive skin stuff, so who knows what it was), and Vaseline is now the only thing I can use. Glad to know it's safe to use!
Vaseline is the best lip balm I’ve ever used and I’m never leaving it! I think I’m allergic to lanolin because “natural/organic” lip balms, which tend to have lanolin, never fail to make my lips “break out” in bumps.
Love the Sun Bum SPF 30 - yes, I admit it - Mango and Key Lime. Pacifica is sure to be a terrific product. Love their nail polish and mascara is the absolute best!
I stumbled across one of your videos a few days ago and have gone crazy binge watching all of them. Pretty soon, my husband is going to get tired of hearing me say, "Dr. Dray says this and Dr. Dray recommends this..." ! You've got to be a busy woman and so I appreciate the time you take to make and edit these videos. My interest is dealing with my aging skin but I have a question concerning acne treatment. My daughter, who happens to be a third year pediatric resident in North Carolina, deals with acne. She is 6 months pregnant though so it sounds like the Differin is not something she should use. Could she use Benzoyl Perioide or Salicylic Acid without any problems? She won't do anything that is costly or takes a lot of time! I'll be seeing her soon and wanted to give her that info. Thanks again for all the fantastic and informative videos!
Thanks so much!! Sadly not much is known about safety of acne medication ingredients. While no reports of adverse effects in women using salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide during pregnancy have been reported....we cautiously advise not to use these during pregnancy. About the only acne medication considered very safe in pregancy is azelaic acid (brand name finacea or azelex). Blue or red light phototherapy (done in office for best results as otc devices are not regulated and have variable outputs) is sometimes a good option, as well as a few topical antibiotics. UNC and Duke both have fantastic derm departments if your daughter is there for training. Hope this helps :)
Thanks for taking the time to answer and provide such good information! I'll pass it on to my daughter when I see her soon. She is at UNC...she and her husband are both third year residents there.
@@DrDrayzday can you recommend a lip balm for seb derm prone skin ? I’ve been looking at products and lots of products have triggering ingredients such as a oils etc. is petroleum safe for seb derm skin
Colleen O'Brien I get requests for this but tbh there is not much content for an entire video as there is not much to say. Will think about a way to get this information across in a video in the future
aquaphor lip repair is my go to at night. I love it! I am a serial lip gloss applier and abuser. I use aquaphor at night and I swear by it. no more chapped lips 💋💋💋
I have chronic dry lips, and I've tried a lot of lip hydrating products. The worst ones either disappear after 20 mins and/or leave my lips even dryer than before. I never thought I was allergic to anything, but some products seem to dry my lips out more, so maybe I will start to pay attention to the ingredients in the drying ones. Eucerin has an "Aquaphor Lip Repair" product that is very good when my lips are already dry and flaky - very soothing and feels nourishing. If I just want to prevent my lips from becoming dry, Chapstick brand plain Chapstick works great - nothing fancy, but the chapstick-y scent is nostalgic for me. But it doesn't do a good job of fixing already dry lips, unless I apply it non-stop for several days. I also like the classic Burt's Bees. It's not as good as the Aquaphor Lip Repair, but feels good when my lips are dry. Some products like Carmex make my lips feel more dry. Those Baby Lips dry my lips out a bit, I think because they're not thick/hydrating enough. The Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm is a good tinted chapstick with spf 20. Chemical sunscreens don't bother my lips. The Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment with SPF 15 is SO GOOD as a tinted lip product (some are even closer to a lipstick in terms of pigmentation) but they are pricier. I also like the Fresh Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy (the one in the pot) for before bedtime, because it's quite thick and sticky and occlusive and stays on my lips all night. But it grosses me out that it's in a pot, and I have to stick my fingers in. The most nourishing and thick lip product I've ever used is the Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner. It really stays in a thick layer on my lips ALL NIGHT LONG and I always wake up with the softest lips. It's really expensive though. I'm working my way through a free-be sample, and don't think I'll purchase it myself.
Maybe you are allergic to petroleum, I have a similar issue so I decided to start making my own lip balm. So far that helps. You can try Trader Joe’s spearmint lip balm ( petroleum and paraben free plus it’s vegan😍). Or use their argan oil at night that helps me too. I don’t work for TJs or get sponsored just find that their products help. Sometimes I use plain coconut oil or shea butter but the smell can be over powering.
I use pure lanolin ointment that is aimed for breast care of breastfeeding women as a lip balm. It's amazing! Super moisturizing, isn't as greasy as vaseline and has this beautiful lustre to it. Looks like a very glossy gloss, only not liquid-y and runny at all. Highly recommend if you're not allergic! (I'm European and 15g, which is over 0.5oz, costs about $3 here)
Based on your recommendation, I recently bought the vanicream lip protectant/sunscreen. I looooove it!! For the first time in years my lips are soft and feel great. Love the sunscreen protection as well!!! Thank you so much for the help and advice!!
Are lip moisturizers that contain sunscreen actives (inorganic or organic) safe to ingest in small amounts? Such as when drinking or eating and a little of the moisturizer gets ingested?
Thanks for the SPF lip balm recommendations! I'm pretty good at wearing sunscreen, but I neglect the lips so I should get on that. Two recs for you: Lansinoh, a lanolin product technically made for chafed nipples (lol) that I wear overnight and is SUPER moisturizing. It's a great dupe for a product called Lanolips that is popular in the UK, as well as the pricey Bite beauty agave lip mask. It's cheap, comes in a big tube, and I get it at Target. My other one is the Hurraw black cherry tinted lip balm. It's moisturizing, has a pretty tint, is organic, and - best of all - is available on the VC!
I personally LOVE the vaseline cocoa butter lip therapy ! Its the only thing that really moisturize my lips and make them really soft , other lip balms dont really do much
Thank you this was very helpful! I use Blistex DCT SPF 20. It comes in a tub so I've been able to get my husband and son to use it as it doesn't look like a lipstick like may of the tube ones.
Thanks for this video Dr.Dray! I use Vaseline on my dry lips at night, and have since I was a kid, (and that's a LONG time ago). It works great, and it's so inexpensive, I just don't understand why anyone would use anything else! I tried Aquaphor recently only because someone recommended it, but it's no better than Vaseline imo. I just started Vanicream SPF on my lips since you recommended it and I'm perfectly happy with it. Thanks! Rita
This Jack Black Ultra Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 has literally changed my life, FabulousFortyPlus! Thank you for the recommendation! I'm an avid "peel the skin off my lips" girl. Sounds harsh but I know I don't drink enough water and living in a super dry climate, my lips have been a wreck for years and years. I do like the Aquaphor but it still wasn't helping the skin on my lips from drying and peeling. Enter Jack Black lip balm. Within 3 days, I couldn't find a dry lifted piece of skin on my lips at all. I'm 3 weeks into using it faithfully and the results are nothing short of a miracle. Bless Dr Dray, her fabulous followers and You for such caring and informative advice. Best information on the Web for sure ♥♥♥
I’ve only had a bad reaction to one lip product: Burt’s Bees Overnight Intensive lip treatment. I have no idea why, because it’s made with natural ingredients (I think). I’d say it’s the peppermint oil, except I never have had a reaction to any other mint lip balms. I love minty lip balms. 🤔
Just because an ingredient is "natural" does not mean that it is gentle/safe. Just because an ingredient is "unnatural" does not mean that is is harmful.
Thank you so much, I’m just now getting more into skincare, body care and now lip care. Since I don’t want to wear makeup no more. New subscriber. Keep the videos coming :)
I've been using the Aquphor on my lips for years!!! The larger tub last forever!! I know petroleum has a long shelf life, but does it ever expire? I have to try the CeraVe! Thanks for the tips for the lips hahah :D
I've really enjoyed catching up with all your skin care videos and this is a great one! One balm you might consider looking for: Aquaphor makes two specifically for lips and their composition is different from the Aquaphor product you mentioned. It's their Lip Repair- there's one with a chemical sunscreen (SPF 30) and one without spf. Both are fragrance and flavor free. I've used the one without spf for over a decade and it's one of the few American products I have shipped to me here in France as it's not available here. An absolute staple!
I usually come away from your videos with a list of items/ideas. Thanks for all of your info! I'm still a convert to nutritional yeast salad with lentils. Your getting us all healthier, inside and outside! Take care & enjoy the weekend Vicki
I tried the Healing ointment from Cera Ve on my lips and loved it! I’ve alway had it and for some reason never thought to put it there. Thank you once again 😃
Maria Aye - hi, could you please tell me if tattooed skin is the same as regular skin in the long run or does it get dry, wrinkly and damaged faster than tattoo free skin?
adti ashok I honestly have no idea. But I will say, I have a full sleeve (tattoos from shoulder to wrist) on one arm, and 0 tattoos on the other arm. My left arm(the full sleeved arm) is slightly softer than the right arm, the tattoo-less arm. I know it sounds super crazy. But after I started tattooing my arm I did notice a texture difference in my skin. Also, of course I'm not a doctor, and everyone is different, and treats their skin differently, but most of my friends who are tattooed moisturize a lot more and use sunscreen on our tattoos to help the life of the tattoo. Over time, the ink fades and especially color tattoos. And even more so for people of color, like myself, it takes more ink to show up. Also, putting a moisturizer on tattooed skin makes the tattoo pop. It gives it more life. Moisturizing helps with the overall life of a tattoo. So I'm not sure if it causes the skin to wrinkle faster or anything like that. Definitely doesn't dry the skin out more, at least for myself. Again, everyone is different. Everyone has a different skin type. Some people take excellent care of their tattoos where others not so much. So I can't speak for everyone, but for me personally, it's just made my skin softer and of course prettier to look at since I am a walking canvas. Hope this helps!!
That's funny you like Baby Lips, because I bought several of the non-colored ones just for balm, and I recognized that the more I used it the more I needed it. It was terrible. I threw away 4 of them and will never buy or use again. I didn't feel like I was allergic to it but it sure made my lips dry.
@@chooseaname1423 I haven't tried the Dr rescue one. Tbh, I'm kinda afraid to try it because the clear or colored ones that didn't actually have color really did dry out my lips. Something in it wasn't reacting well with my body. I didn't recognize it as an allergic reaction, but after listening to Dr Dray, I know even if it wasn't an allergy, it for sure was a reaction. I wanted to love them so maybe I will pick the Dr Rescue one up if I see it during my next Walmart or Drugstore trip. Thx for the recommendation.
Hi Dr. Dray, I realize this question has nothing to do with the subject of this video but in an earlier video you mentioned your mom lived in Colorado. Then in a later video you mentioned going over to her house to do some de cluttering. So I am assuming your wonderful mom was able to move down to Houston to be near you. I think it is great that the two of you are so close and are able to live very near each other. I have been to Houston only once when we lived in San Antonio for 2 years back in 1997 to 1999. I loved Houston a little more than San Antonio. But we since have been back in Colorado for the last 17 years. You are great. So happy to watch all your videos. I learn something new everyday. Thank you for all the time you take out of your life to inform the public about skincare.
@@asdfghjkl-ld7iv it's not as thick and has added ingredients. A balm formulated with petrolatum, hyaluronic acid and ceramides provides extra hydration and replenishes the skin's barrier while helping to temporarily protect and relieve chafed, chapped or cracked skin.
Blistex intense lip therapy - (metal tube with red cap, kind of looks like a bazuka product honestly) works better than vaseline as it contains urea which helps shed the dead skin from the lips while it conditions. Unfortunatley, however it is *very* minty and contains limonene as a fragrance type thingy.... BUT I mean, if they are that bad and chapped you will notice an immediate difference and it numbs the area so they stop stinging.
I'm allergic to many ingredients including propolis, which is in nearly most lip products. Been using vanicream with spf and neutrogena hydro boost for years and love them. Vaniply goes on every nite before bed and I've been wanting to try the cerave ointment. Thank you for recognizing face and lip allergies as it's very hard to find products. I hope people purchase these items because if they ever get discontinued, I would be lost without them. Thank you again!!
This needs to be my science lesson today. Kids tend to lick their lips and they get so red around them it looks like a stain from juice. Hopefully I can save a few of them from this. Thanks Dr. Dray for the idea! ❤️Laura
i will have to get the neutrogena lip treatment i didnt see that one, i did pick up the neutrogena lip gloss one and it is fabulous. this is off topic but i had gotten a bottle of the curel lotion youve been using in the blue bottle and i absolutly have been loving it! picked up the cerave cream in the tub you recomended in the other days vlog and i cant wait to try it. i use the sun bum chapstick and its fabulous too :)i did also pick up aveeno's new lotion in the tub it has yogurt in it and vanilla powder it smelled fabulous im always on the hunt for a new fabulous lotion to try well it will be returned it was awful my arms felt like i poured maple syrup on them lol. im sticking to your recomendations from now on lol!
yes i too love the scents of them but lord they are just so sticky and waxy feeling, i think i will stick to cerave and curel and just invest in the aura cacia sprays you use. lol
yes i picked the cerave cream one up today i wet my arms an applied it to wet skin like dr dray says and it absolulty is wonderful, cerave is just the rockstar of skin care in my opinion. i wasted so much money on different brands of stuff over the years in search of anti aging until i found this channel and thanks to dr dray i feel so much more educated about my skin and sunscreen i learn so much from her ;)
I totally agree with you. I have wasted money on ineffective products too, I think we all have. Dr. Dray explains everything so well and she is so entertaining. I like her keep it simple and effective approach to skin care and I have become a huge fan of sunscreen!
Omg yes I wanted them to be good, why?? I have no clue but I bought about 3 and gave up. I now use Burt's Bees and on rare occasions I will treat myself to fresh rose or plum lip balm, my gosh those are both sooo nourishing and hydrating
SMG1234 G Thanks for the tip. I was about to throw mine away. If it's "healthy" enough for nipples and infants, it should be good enough for adult lips.
I'm a vaseline on the lips girl at night! Used it for years. Hate anything with fragrance or flavor. I'll try the Vanicream SPF for my outdoor activities. Love your videos!
Just a personal anecdote: I know you recommend CeraVe Healing Ointment and while I love many of their other products I just can’t get behind this one! It’s so oily, stains my sheets, etc. and while it feels nice while on, once it’s fully soaked in it leaves my lips feeling the same if not more dry. I personally have much better success with aquaphor and Vaseline. I normally put on a thick layer of aquaphor before bed every night and wake up loving my lip skin!
Dr Dray don’t laugh but I use Lansinol which is used for nipple cracking during breastfeeding. My lips were constantly dry and in summer cold sores. I got onto this through a fellow Texan Dominique Sacshe. The other lip treatment is Estée Lauder 8 hr cream..
Hawaiian tropic has spf50 sunscreen and waterproof if snorkeling or at beach. A must have. It's kinda thick creamy but not hydrating.but not drying.they have some semi natural lip balms now. Probably fragrance though...I used it because it's good at beach
Hello! Thanks for your insightful review! Many sunscreens for the lips have whitish finish, so if I apply them first and then a lipstick on top do they still work? I mean, physical sunscreens should be on top to bounce out sun rays? Or they equally work under makeup? Thank you.
I have used first aid beauty ultra repair intensive lip balm for years . Very occlusive/waxy so you can put it on then be good for hours (ie before going into OR). Not sure if you’ve done one but I would love a review of first aid beauty
Yes I love the Neutrogena ligloss. I receive alot of free product in training and this was one of them and very impressed. Buying some of the Cera Ve ointment tomorrow. Thank you!!!!
Is it safe to put a regular combo sunscreen on your lips? I’ve been using the Cerave AM facial moisturizing sunscreen on my face and lips, and it does not irritate me at all. Thanks :)
Think I'll give the Neutrogena lip gloss a try. I'm headed back into working in the outpatient clinic setting, and I don't like having to constantly re-apply make-up in that setting.
I'm also currently using up the Maybelline Baby Lips with the SPF20 in it. Not wild about it, but where I'm living, I pretty much would have to order lip ointments online.
I use my facial sunscreen on my lips when i apply it to my face and chest, is that enough protection or should i be useing a designated product for my lips?
I'm all about that Pacifica in Peach, and Target sells it which is great. The best thing about it is that it protects my lips, gives me great color, and makes me want to reapply! I don't find myself licking my lips with it even though it has stevia. Highly recommend!
Dr.Dray, What is your opinion on “lip scrubs?!” I bought one the other day and tried it. It seems to be painful and irritate my dry/sensitive skin on my lips. Was using a lip scrub a bad idea?
Brittany C honestly if you don’t want to spend money on a lip scrub I get a two pack toothbrush set and never use one except to get wet and gently brush my lips after brushing teeth. Just make sure to not get toothpaste on your lips because it will dry them out a lot.
I love the harraw- blue chamomile vanilla night balm.. it’s the only thing that keeps my lips in good condition. I’ve tried the bite agave mask but it’s nothing compared to the Harraw balms
I'm obsessed with biting the skin on my lips!!! its something i have done for years and can't stop!!! what can i do??? i even made a video about it but i can't stop!
Hi. Hope all is well. Loved this as i am kinda a lip balm junkie. Do you think hydromol ointment is suitable for face and lips as im using differin? xx
This looks like a great product! I think it might possibly worsen acne a bit on the face (other than lips)...sort of like vaseline ointment. If not, would be good with differin. Maybe test it out on a patch of facial skin and see if this is or is not the case.
Love the neutrogena hydro boost lip gloss and treatment too. Also love the revitalizing lip balm by neutrogena... has spf and adds great color to the lips.
Flavoring and fragrance in lip products tends to make the back of my throat scratchy. Still haven't seen the Pacifica or the Vanicream lip balms in my Target, but I think I will order and use store delivery to save on shipping. Thanks for all the info, very helpful as usual!
Dr Dray, last year after a bad reaction to Cipro my lips began to burn and crack. It lasted weeks. My mouth also burned. With medication (Topamax) it’s somewhat controlled but my lips will do fine for days but then break out again in a sore burning rash. Living in Florida I never know what to use on my lips. Of all of these balms which one would you suggest that is the most pure that contains spf? Thanks! Love your videos.
Dr. Dray, Great Review Video! Thanks for the genuine love, effort and knowledge you put in to Every video! I sincerely admire and appreciate you. Love and Light💖Carli
I love the vanicream lip balm! Badger also makes spf lotions / lip balms that are more environmentally conscious, but they are not the most cosmetically pleasing
Hello, Dr. Dray. I bought the cocoa butter baby Vaseline today before watching your video. Should I switch it for the original one? Thanks for your time and help.
I have really really sensitive skin but I LOVE Jack Black lip SPF, especially in blackberry. I can't use fragrance on my face but I've been having no problems and thankfully there's no sunscreen taste which is a huge problem with SPF lip products I've found.
I haven't been happy with the Vaseline tube lip balm (design, etc.), so tried Smith's Rosebud Salve original and now choose it over reg. Vaseline. It's petroleum and cotton seed oil based with their "trade secret perfume premix". I've never had an issue with the rose scent. The tube is fab in the car or bag because it doesn't melt! I don't like beeswax feeling and it doesn't have any.
Dr. Dray your videos are very informative. You always explain why something i good for you instead of just saying its good because of the scent or because it feels nice.
I just saw my dermatologist because I’ve been having this bizarre gritty sandlike texture when I rub my lips together and also burning. I’ve always used natural lip balms religiously but I started to notice this even when I put them on. I was told I have something that sounds like penlesh? And my dermatologist told me that all natural lip products are actually dehydrating! I’ve been using Treat organic lip balms for the last year and I’m thinking I started having a reaction because they are known for their flavors.
I've actually heard of people using vaseline under the eyes at night to prevent/treat wrinkles. Is this effective? I was always afraid of applying to heavy of an ointment, that it would cause milia, or clog pores. A follow up of so called trends is to apply castor oil nightly to eyebrows, or lashes to increase hair growth. Is this effective? I could see maybe some skin benefits, but actual hair growth doesn't seem plausible.
Hey, Dr. Dray! I just discovered your RUclips channel and think you're great! Another great product for lips is Badger broad spectrum SPF 15 clear zinc lip balm. It feels great on and doesn't give a white cast to your lips. I order it on Amazon. Thanks for your informative videos!
Absolutely LOVE your videos and thorough reviews you provide us with. I have an allergy to petrolatum and lanolin. Can you recommend a hydrating lip balm that does not contain either of those? I see you mentioned Vaniply and said it does not have lanolin. Perhaps that one does not contain petrolatum? Thank you so much for all that you do to keep us all informed.
I struggle with lip products. I don't lick my lips. My lips are so dry, they crack even with frequent petrolatum application. I tried the Cerave Healing Ointment but if it gets into a crack or inside my mouth I get localized swelling. I like the Aquaphor SPF lip ointment but I'm going to try the Vanicream next.

SHADE! A whole palm trees worth of shade🤣 🌴
And I oop-
personally, my favorite lip balms are aquaphor ointment, blistex lip medex and nivea honey and milk :)
Vaseline is the best lip balm I’ve ever used and I’m never leaving it! I think I’m allergic to lanolin because “natural/organic” lip balms, which tend to have lanolin, never fail to make my lips “break out” in bumps.
optimisticgrl could have also been essential oils and “natural “ fragrance in those natural lip balms that caused your irritation.
My favorite is the Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm Spf 20, Soft Caramel. It feels and looks amazing.
I will have to try that one sometime :)
Danielle D Me too! It’s my fav lip balm. ❤️
Love the Sun Bum SPF 30 - yes, I admit it - Mango and Key Lime. Pacifica is sure to be a terrific product. Love their nail polish and mascara is the absolute best!

Could you do a video of causes of Milia under the eyes? The little small white bumps close to the inner under eye.
Colleen O'Brien I get requests for this but tbh there is not much content for an entire video as there is not much to say. Will think about a way to get this information across in a video in the future
okay thanks!
is there any particular part about it you would like more info on? treatment options? outlook? causes?
All three would be good, I have small bumps that look like chicken skin under the eye.
yes, causes, treatment, prevention if any. Thanks again!
Been binge watching your videos Dr. Dray! Thank you for all the eye opening information. ❤️
I have been using the Cerave healing ointment on my lips at night and I like it. I will look for the Vanicream SPF next. Thanks for the great tips!
It is my fave!
This has saved my lips from trentinoin!
I suffer with dry lips too ! It has a lot of product can provide me exact name of the ointment that you have used !
aquaphor lip repair is my go to at night. I love it! I am a serial lip gloss applier and abuser. I use aquaphor at night and I swear by it. no more chapped lips 💋💋💋
It is a good one!
I'm working my way through a free-be sample, and don't think I'll purchase it myself.
cherry chapstick brings back fond memories of "my first allowed lipstick" as a child, lol
Dr Dray - my first "allowed lipstick" was a Dr Pepper lip smacker! Too funny.
You should try the Bite Agave lip mask for thickness...
My allergy that no one ever talks about is Shea Butter...It’s in so many lip products :(
I use pure lanolin ointment that is aimed for breast care of breastfeeding women as a lip balm.
Thank you so much for the help and advice!!
so glad to hear :)
Are lip moisturizers that contain sunscreen actives (inorganic or organic) safe to ingest in small amounts? Such as when drinking or eating and a little of the moisturizer gets ingested?
yes
Thanks! Lansinoh sounds like a similar product to "bag balm"
I personally LOVE the vaseline cocoa butter lip therapy ! Its the only thing that really moisturize my lips and make them really soft , other lip balms dont really do much
Especially right now i’m on accutane and my lips are sooo cracked 😣
I agree 💯
Thank you this was very helpful! I use Blistex DCT SPF 20. It comes in a tub so I've been able to get my husband and son to use it as it doesn't look like a lipstick like may of the tube ones.
The Helpful Assistant that’s some fragile masculinity right there.
@@emlee1176 a bit over-critical?
I never thought of SPF lip balms before, duh! 🤦 Using one from Ultrasun right now ;) Thanks for the tips
R Baker a sunburn on your lips is no joke! Makes them feels swollen and then they peel 😩
Thanks! Rita
Justinterested love it too and happy to hear you are enjoying
Try the Jack Black ultra therapy lip balm spf 25! I tried my husbands and then kept it for myself!
thanks for sharing! i hear good things about this one in the comments
Where is this sold?
Lynelle Thompson I got it at Ulta
@@wtfmyfriends thank you!!
It was probably because of those natural ingredients. They can be incredibly irritating.
I have had really dry lips all my life. What I use is Bag Balm. It is Hydroxy quinoline sulfate a base of Petroleum jelly with Lanolin.
Thank you so much, I’m just now getting more into skincare, body care and now lip care. Since I don’t want to wear makeup no more. New subscriber. Keep the videos coming :)
Thanks!
I've been using the Aquphor on my lips for years!!! The larger tub last forever!! I know petroleum has a long shelf life, but does it ever expire? I have to try the CeraVe! Thanks for the tips for the lips hahah :D
I love that Neutrogena hydroboost lipgloss. So many things make my lips peel but they don'e!
they are nice !
Totally agree! They are AWESOME!
TFS
I usually come away from your videos with a list of items/ideas. Thanks for all of your info! I'm still a convert to nutritional yeast salad with lentils.

This was such a nice comment, aww 🥰
I tried the Healing ointment from Cera Ve on my lips
and loved it! I’ve alway had it and for some reason never thought to put it there.
Thank you once again 😃
She said “licking lips” and I immediately reached for my cereve ointment! Very helpful information!
Aquaphor is good for tattoos. Although now I use coconut oil while my tattoos heal. But Aquaphor is really good too!!!
Multipurpose for sure :)
Maria Aye - thank you so much for taking the time out to address my question in great detail. truly appreciate it. sending you love, from India.
How do you feel about Andy ointment? I've heard it is very good tattoos...
That's funny you like Baby Lips, because I bought several of the non-colored ones just for balm, and I recognized that the more I used it the more I needed it. It was terrible. I threw away 4 of them and will never buy or use again. I didn't feel like I was allergic to it but it sure made my lips dry.
Callie W311 i love mine, but I only use the dr rescue one and it feels great and it’s gorgeous
@@calliew311 you can always return it and tell them you had a reaction if it doesn't work out.
Callie W311, I had the same reaction to Baby Lips.
Yeah you are watching a lot of my older vlogs...things change and I elaborate as I go
CeraVe Ointment ❣️ Use every day now thanks to you Dr D. Love it. Used to use Vaseline but I prefer the CeraVe.
Why do you prefer it? I want to get it but I don’t know whether it’s worth it when compared to normal Vaseline.
CeraVe healing ointment I have to buy this thank you Dr Dray!
❤️Laura
Thanks! hope your classroom holiday festivities are going well and you get a holiday break soon :)
Vaseline Lip Therapy is sooo good. I've had it since last year! It has helped me through winter and summer (:
Reliable for sure :)
I like that too :-)
CeraVe Healing ointment is my FAVORITE 💙💙💙💙
I appreciate your humor & as an esthetician I love your educational videos!! :)
Thanks!

Valeria Fernandez Totally agree with Valeria this is the only reason I was intrigued with this video xx
i will have to get the neutrogena lip treatment i didnt see that one, i did pick up the neutrogena lip gloss one and it is fabulous. this is off topic but i had gotten a bottle of the curel lotion youve been using in the blue bottle and i absolutly have been loving it! picked up the cerave cream in the tub you recomended in the other days vlog and i cant wait to try it. i use the sun bum chapstick and its fabulous too :)i did also pick up aveeno's new lotion in the tub it has yogurt in it and vanilla powder it smelled fabulous im always on the hunt for a new fabulous lotion to try well it will be returned it was awful my arms felt like i poured maple syrup on them lol. im sticking to your recomendations from now on lol!
that aveeno one sounds like it would taste good! I love their lavender calming one for the fragrance, lol!!
yes i too love the scents of them but lord they are just so sticky and waxy feeling, i think i will stick to cerave and curel and just invest in the aura cacia sprays you use. lol
I love the Cerave cream. It's the best body moisturizer I have ever used.
yes i picked the cerave cream one up today i wet my arms an applied it to wet skin like dr dray says and it absolulty is wonderful, cerave is just the rockstar of skin care in my opinion. i wasted so much money on different brands of stuff over the years in search of anti aging until i found this channel and thanks to dr dray i feel so much more educated about my skin and sunscreen i learn so much from her ;)
I totally agree with you. I have wasted money on ineffective products too, I think we all have. Dr. Dray explains everything so well and she is so entertaining. I like her keep it simple and effective approach to skin care and I have become a huge fan of sunscreen!
thanks for the video :) I was wondering what do you think about cocoa butter?
that baby lips stuff dried my lips out like crazy
some of them are really irritating
Mine too/:
Me too
Omg yes I wanted them to be good, why?? I have no clue but I bought about 3 and gave up. I now use Burt's Bees and on rare occasions I will treat myself to fresh rose or plum lip balm, my gosh those are both sooo nourishing and hydrating
Made my lips peel.
She's hilarious with her comments. Reminds me of the way my grandpa would talk. And that makes me warm in the heart ❤
Great video! I really like using lansinoh (nipple cream!) works the best as provides a thick film and moisturises the lips all day.
Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed!
SMG1234 G I use it too and love it. All these lip balms with sunscreen really irritate my lips.
SMG1234 G Thanks for the tip. I was about to throw mine away. If it's "healthy" enough for nipples and infants, it should be good enough for adult lips.
Unless allergic to it /sensitive to lanolin
I'm sensitive to Lanolin. It's causes my lips to break out in little bumps all around my mouth and extremely dry. 😢
I'm a vaseline on the lips girl at night! Used it for years. Hate anything with fragrance or flavor. I'll try the Vanicream SPF for my outdoor activities. Love your videos!
I like it!
Thank you so much for what you do for us. What you give us is such an invaluable gift.
The other lip treatment is Estée Lauder 8 hr cream..
that is lanolin, which is in many lip balms...people often can become allergic to it
My go to is the Jack Black spf lip balm. I definitely thought you'd mention it. So so good.
i heard that petroleum products don’t hydrate, they just lock in existing moisture.. is that true?
She's old
It is
Yeah
it is!

Thank you.
better to put them on top of lipstick...the lipstick stick/applicator will remove too much sunscreen
I’m using the Jack Black lip product with sunscreen and I like it.
:)
I would like to improve the quality of the skin on my lips. They always feel a little sore because lips in a constant state of being dry
You should try Paula's Choice lip and body treatment balm. It's absolutely amazing 😍
Is it safe to put a regular combo sunscreen on your lips? I’ve been using the Cerave AM facial moisturizing sunscreen on my face and lips, and it does not irritate me at all. Thanks :)
can you talk a little about jar packaging and if it poses any issues like contamination of dirt/debris/bacteria going from your fingers into the jar?
Think I'll give the Neutrogena lip gloss a try. I'm headed back into working in the outpatient clinic setting, and I don't like having to constantly re-apply make-up in that setting.
i like it, it is moisturizing
I'm also currently using up the Maybelline Baby Lips with the SPF20 in it. Not wild about it, but where I'm living, I pretty much would have to order lip ointments online.
I use my facial sunscreen on my lips when i apply it to my face and chest, is that enough protection or should i be useing a designated product for my lips?
It's enough but reapply
I'm all about that Pacifica in Peach, and Target sells it which is great. The best thing about it is that it protects my lips, gives me great color, and makes me want to reapply! I don't find myself licking my lips with it even though it has stevia. Highly recommend!
Lifeasahoosier good you found one and thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Dr.Dray,
What is your opinion on “lip scrubs?!” I bought one the other day and tried it.
I'm obsessed with biting the skin on my lips!!! its something i have done for years and can't stop!!! what can i do??? i even made a video about it but i can't stop!
trisha60 Me too!! It’s a nervous habit of mine. I even press my lips into the cuts to burn them in away.. weird but it’s a major habit of mine.
I'm so glad i found your channel. I don't know why i never thought about putting Sun screen on my lips. But i sure will now.
so glad you are here
Also love the revitalizing lip balm by neutrogena... has spf and adds great color to the lips.
it is a great one!
Flavoring and fragrance in lip products tends to make the back of my throat scratchy. Still haven't seen the Pacifica or the Vanicream lip balms in my Target, but I think I will order and use store delivery to save on shipping. Thanks for all the info, very helpful as usual!
I also see that cotz has one as well that looks promising...have you tried that one?
Dr Dray No I haven't tried that one, although I did see it on the Target website.

I looked into those as well, but they have alot of fragrance i belive
Hello, Dr. Dray. I bought the cocoa butter baby Vaseline today before watching your video. Should I switch it for the original one? Thanks for your time and help.
Carmex is my go-to and Basic Organics E-Ointment.
I'm addicted to my Carmex too. It saves me in the winter.
I have really really sensitive skin but I LOVE Jack Black lip SPF, especially in blackberry. I can't use fragrance on my face but I've been having no problems and thankfully there's no sunscreen taste which is a huge problem with SPF lip products I've found.
heard good things about that one too
Nivea hydrocare SPF 15 lip balm is pretty darn good .
I don't like beeswax feeling and it doesn't have any.
thanks for sharing
Is exfoliating lips often(like twice a week) bad?
Dr. Dray your videos are very informative. You always explain why something i good for you instead of just saying its good because of the scent or because it feels nice.
At 8:00 that is the cutest little Vaseline I've ever seen!
Is ingesting petrolatum etc. a concern?
What happens when petrolatum is ingested?
I believe it is benign. I would imagine ingesting large amounts would give u oily poops.
I actually use the neutrogena Norwegian formula fragrance free hand cream on my lips.
The Neutrogena lip gloss looks really nice on you.
kmscrap when did she apply?
I've actually heard of people using vaseline under the eyes at night to prevent/treat wrinkles. Is this effective? I was always afraid of applying to heavy of an ointment, that it would cause milia, or clog pores. A follow up of so called trends is to apply castor oil nightly to eyebrows, or lashes to increase hair growth. Is this effective? I could see maybe some skin benefits, but actual hair growth doesn't seem plausible.
it is a moisturizer and can improve the appearance of the skin
I love ❤️ lavender lip balm from Young Living essential oil company. 1st ingredient is cocosnucifera, simmondsia (jojoba) seed oil, rose hip seed oil.
Glad to hear!
Hey, Dr. Dray! I just discovered your RUclips channel and think you're great! Another great product for lips is Badger broad spectrum SPF 15 clear zinc lip balm. It feels great on and doesn't give a white cast to your lips. I order it on Amazon. Thanks for your informative videos!
Hey, Dr. Dray thank u so much for this amazing information.
Is there any lip balm can bright dark lips???
Hedoo - Elizabeth Arden 24 hr moisture for lips HAS spf & SHE HAS Some tinted as well but the untinted gives a nice natural sheen.
Sun bum coconut lip balm is sooooo hydrating I can't put it down.
Lots of folks like that one too Ms Julie :)
It made my lips hurt and sting ): think just cause all the fragrance in it .. I wish I could use it though! Haha
I hated it!
