      It depends on whether there somerhing like a gentleman's agreement, or not. Not that it's likely that a "gentleman's agreement" would have held up in court. Corruption anyone? But, if the taking was done without the explicit, I guess even implicit, knowledge of the owners/mangers, it'd be even worse.

    • @kevinfelton689
      @kevinfelton689 Год назад +1

      You're almost right. The "free" apartments aren't free. You have to sign an agreement saying that when you're off duty, you'll be on call for them. Complexes that have a lot of cops living there will have a pager that they pass around. I never did it because when I'm off duty, I like to be "off duty."
      Places that give free, coffee, fountain drinks, and meals to on duty cops are just doing it to make sure that more cops come around. Which keeps junkies away.
      I've never heard of a place giving free beer or lottery tickets, mainly because every department I've ever worked for didn't let you buy that stuff in uniform, but if the owner's ok with it, and the department doesn't care then I don't see why it's anyone else's business.

    • @SurprisinglyDeep

      Most cops do not commit rape and murder on a daily basis though.
      Some cops occasionally harrass women into having sex with them. Actual full scale rape and sexual assault by a corrupt cop is fairly rare.
      Most of the cases of murder are when a cop gets too aggressive and shoots a suspect or does a knee chokehold or some BS when they should have just tackled and arrested the suspect and then just chucked them into the paddy wagon. Cops just killing someone in cold blood is fairly rare.

    • @Lexduden
      @Lexduden Год назад +3

      @@jodyhoo no you are NOT clear about that. You said: "they take care of their own." That implies that they are one entity which they are not. It can also happen that if an ADA/DA decides to prosecute, the whole police force goes against them. While they are separate branches they do need each other.
      What I actually think might be way more likely is that the responding LEOs (law enforcement officer) would take the cop into custody, but not book them so they can't be charged. But, this guy seems to be from a different jurisdiction, so who knows what would happen. Actually we don't know for sure what happened here.

    A similar incident happened at a convenience store near me. A cop came in and ordered a bunch of deli sandwiches, obviously picking up lunch for the guys at the cop shop. He wandered the store until his number was called. He picks up the sandwiches and proceeds to walk out the door. An employee noticed and calls the manager. The manager reviews the security tapes and calls the police. Long story a bit shorter, the cop lost a $99,000 a year job for $30 worth of sandwiches.

    As a truck driver I'm considered a professional driver by police and held to a higher standard for instance in my state blood alcohol is .08 but for cdl drivers even in our personal cars it's .04. So I think we should hold them to a higher standard as well. If I'm held to a higher standard because of a endorsement on my license they should be to for the badge they carry

    When you work at a large, well known store is there a non emergency shoplifter phone number you use to call the police? Or do you just call 911?Like, it's me again, over here at the Walmart!?

    Worked with police for 20 years…99% were good but it seemed there was always one that thought they were above the law.

    I was working security for a newspaper one Saturday night when a police officer pulled into the parking lot that had "no parking without newspaper tag" all over the lot. I told him he wasn't allowed to park there and asked him to leave. His response was what about city police?
    Sorry only newspaper employees.
    Don't park in a red zone.
    Then he drove off.

    They get too used to being able to break laws with impunity, and forget that they're supposed to set an example.
