I was an atheist for most of my life. Not just a blasé one, a hardcore, passionate atheist. I read all the books. Girls I knew wanted to marry Brad Pitt when they grew up, I wanted to marry Richard Dawkins. I believed all the things a good liberal does. My body, my choice. America is systemically racist. Love is love. I never, in a million years would have imagined myself becoming a Christian. But the last few years, I started to feel like something in our society wasn’t right. Then one day I was watching one of those dating podcasts where they go around the table and ask young women about themselves and their beliefs. One was an obese trans woman talking about how many guys he’s been with. Another was a young woman advocating for abortion in the 9th month. And so on. And it just hit me out of the blue. This is Sodom and Gomorrah. I know how lame it sounds, but I got a Bible and I started going to an evangelical church and it’s changed my life. All those weird holes that have been in me since childhood, they’re being filled by something substantive, not just the junk food that is TV, video games, and social media. Anyway, I figured I’d share that since from what I’ve seen, that recognition you’ve experienced is a sign that your eyes aren’t blinded.
