  • Kotaku has lost another editor in chief. Jen Glennon resigned from the website after their parent company G/O Media pushed Kotaku to pivot from game news to guides content. Does this mean that Kotaku as an outlet is in big trouble? And what led to this need for change?

I wish they went back to focus more on the fun stuff which is games , game dev,/ making of , cool imports , “otaku” related stuff which is in their title. Instead ,last 10 years they chose gossip, drama and making people mad like the twitter trolls.

I saw someone in game development saying this exact same thing on the matter, and I agree. There seems to bee a lot of nonsensical BS going on with some of the writers getting too caught up fighting with people on social media. The website was better when they were doing deep dives at games/series and interviews with devs.

Kotaku has lost itself and honestly is in a far worse state than it's ever been. I won't lie, either Geo media is either trying to cut the fat with this recent incentive or it's trying to push things out so they can sell it. To that end I very much agree, but one way or another, Kotaku has dug its own grave and at this moment this is them reaping what they've sown.

Agreed. There's definitely a lot of chatter about what might happen next for them. Many think its not looking good overall.

@@jakejameslugo a lot of digital media is suffering from the same type of situation, many have already closed or been sold off and those sold are still struggling to find any footing. Given that the market capital has dried up, there's a massive amount of stress for these groups to meet numbers and earn their keep amongst the larger companies and sadly they aren't making the marks with their current course. So either they change to match the current demand and cycle or they are sadly going to go down like the rest.

I'm pretty sure there will probably be other outlets that go through the same thing as well soon. It's rough out here, but part of it is how those same outlets don't help too much or make it better for themselves.

@@jakejameslugo that right there's the point. Rather than do something to stem the bleeding their doubling down on this trash strategy they've been using pulling out bs articles after bs article. As stated this is a grave of their own making. And sadly I don't see many of them getting out of this any time soon.

Can definitely agree. And what's goofy is that some of the writers keep saying things on their own socials that keep making it all look worse.
