I always weigh my items taped closed and with a piece of paper roughly the size of a shipping label laying on top. The tape and the label could possibly add an ounce or so, and I want my shipping weights to be accurate so that the packages don’t get sent back to me with postage due. LOL

You need to make sure that you ship the way you selected shipping when item was listed on eBay. It's a big no no to ship first class when an item sold with priority mail even if you pay more with priority, gotta ship it the way it was sold.

16 ounces is actually priority rate, first class pre-printed labels are only allowed up to 15.9 ounces
First Class package can weigh up to 15.99 ounces.

What are we selecting WHEN listing an item though? As we are listing and get to the "Select a Shipping Service", what are we selecting if we're shipping lightweight items like in this video? There are options there that aren't even on the USPS website & vice versa, also some of these options aren't even mentioned w/n eBay pages. This is for those who will charge for shipping w/o GUESStimating & factoring in shipping (since we don't know where the product will be going until it's purchased).
If the package will weigh under 16 ounces, you should use First Class package.

Hi Hustler, thank you for your introduction, I think there's some useful measurement tools or template rulers for USPS First Class mail on eBay, which are convenient and accurate.
Glen Z Great video! --a PRO TIP for you on your scale. Use a spacer for your scale to see the readout easier--Find a plastic container or small box a bit smaller than your scale platform. Put the box or plastic container on the platform and zero out the scale to all zero's then place your item on top of the spacer. Lifts the item up and out of the way.

So when you say "drop it off at the post office" do you mean literally drop it in a bin? Or do is till wait in line to be scanned and what not. Sorry new to this, thanks for any help
Brian Gil you can just drop it off in the kiosk (or any blue box) also most post offices usually have a spot by the counter where you can leave your prepaid packages so you don't have to wait in line. If you have more questions Im a postal worker 😊
Unless you need a receipt that you dropped off the package it's not really necessary to wait in line ☺

Just put it in a small box or padded mailer and use usps first class, should be under a pound. Anything under a pound it's cheapest and fastest to use usps first class in united states

So now I know first class
(charge by weight ex. $2 for 5 oz)--->Priority mail (you don’t weigh ex. $6 for X pounds/oz)
If you are using a regular Priority Mail box or your own box, you have to weigh it and enter the weight.

One thing I still keep wondering that nobody can give me a clear answer on though is if I should charge for shipping or not. And it so, how do I determine how much to charge? I know the market is being conditioned to almost expect free shipping nowadays. Thanks again for the video!
Figure out how much it would cost you to ship the package to zone 8 and then add that much to the price of the item.

I have the same question. Ebay does not show First Class as a choice when listing.
First Class is always an option when the package weighs under a pound.
Do you only sell clothes? What about selling and shipping puzzles or games? This was a great video. Shipping always confused me
Robert Solano - if you sell games, like “Board” games - USPS has those specialty boxes for board games = Free. And they are called Priority Mail Board Game Boxes

@@damedicmt I dont see an option to sell with those boxes on ebay. Flat rate only lists the envelopes and medium large boxes.

N.O.T. L.D. If u are offering “free shipping” you are most likely paying out of pocket. If you are not offering free shipping your customer pays for shipping:)

@@HustlerHacks I follow what your saying, but when I add dimensions of poly bag, it increases my costs when using 1st class. It thinks I'm shipping a 12x15 box vs polybag.
+ D Leal - In my case since I also sell on eBay - I use the typical household printer my family has. I don't have the fancy stick on labels. I go old school with paper and tape for mines and had no issues since 2017.
But how big is the package size you have to fill it in EBay not just the weight

There should be a drop box at your post office.
why do you use the poly mailer instead of the clear poly bag when using priority mail padded envelope?
This is an excellent video. Learned so much from this & you. I would like to advise everyone to order shipping supplies early! Priority Mail Padded Envelopes may take 3 days, but ordering Priority Mail Envelopes takes 3wks! Post Office (mine) don't stock them. There's something wrong with that. USPS probably drops ships them from Alibaba...

In the same situation. I may just shop using a large ziplock. What did you end up doing?
@@netm203 i have used the poly mailers, with the jersey they weigh less thsn 1 pound and go first class with tracking and only costed a few dollars, cheapest best option i found. I didnt like not having tracking on any package i was sending off so I've stuck with that method.
Do you pick the poly bags because of their light weight or is there size restriction for first class?
