The Northernmost "Nice" Beach Along the Texas Coast, Matagorda Beach

- It's widely known that Texas beaches tend to get nicer as you go southward. I've traveled along the coast from Louisiana to the Mexico border, and in my opinion Matagorda Beach marks the point where the beaches get much nicer in terms of sand content and quality, water color, and wave energy. I hope you enjoy the tour of this lovely and relatively quiet beach.

I grew up in Palacios and we loved going to Matagorda Beach! I have now moved to Houston since then and still make the drive to Matagorda for the beach instead of Galveston...plus my dad still lives in Palacios

We visited today for the first time and today the water was beautiful, super clear like a greenish color but very clear even at chest level you could still see your feet 😍
Discovered this gem traveling for work at STP. I fell in love with this beach mainly because of its solitude. Sunsets are amazing and at night it’s even more precious. There’s days the water is super clear. Coming back
The water in Matagorda is typically murky and brown due to the runoff from the river

I'm from Bay City. This is a natural gem. Glad that they permit access now. Lot's of pelicans make the area home. Can't wait to get back here.

growing up and having family in Bay City, this was our 'secret' beach to go to - the waves were better, more sand, and we liked fishing it too!

On your way to the beach come eat at sharkys food truck we are located in the harbor or at cjs one stop. Best food in town... and service too...
Discovered this beach a week ago and it is a real gem. Nice video! That long pier shows off some pretty amazing dunes too, except for some litter (some people!). Great park and nature center with clean campgrounds, restrooms and good food in town also. Public beach very close by, permit needed to drive onto, and the sand is not groomed so watch where you drive or you may get stuck.

I agree as to the beach quality. As for water it depends on runoff and wind direction and speed. I’ve surf fished in Galveston and could see my feet in chest deep water but it’s very rare. Must have very light se winds for several days.

I used to fish that pier all the time when there was way more water under it! I guess a storm carried in and dropped a but load of sand so most of the pier is out of the water now. Caught many good fish from the pier.
Been camping and vibing at Matagorda all my life but recently the mosquitoes have been terrible. We were camping and they started swarming us, but this wasn’t no few mosquitos this was more like hundreds of them, literally clouds of mosquitos were swarming us, we tried running for our vehicle but that didn’t help, I watched as THOUSANDS of mosquitoes were swarming my car window and then somehow they found a way in after that it was like a real life horror movie…. So if ur going to matagorda take a lot of bug spray 😂
I’m a mail carrier in St. Louis, originally from San Jose California. I put in for a transfer to Corpus Christi. I miss the ocean. I’m hoping it’s pretty clear water, unlike Northern California.
Better than Galveston as far as the beach is concerned and most people in Houston either don't know about it or never go to it
Are we allowed to pull out Rv and camping on the beach?
Yes there are great RV camps there, clean and you can rent boats as well golf carts because they have a golf course there too.
I was consider Freeport to be the point
