Yeah on doing a old friends snapper his is 2812523bve 7800649 this model and his only makes a grinding sound going forward it doesn't make that sound going in reverse so
I was thinking maybe it's a bad clutch gear or something. I'm not sure and haven't yet brought his mower to my place yet until i get a few ideas of what's wrong with it I'm not a snapper guy more of a craftsmen user
NOT a bad idea, but the shafts are NOT soft, they are heat treated aka hardened, and as you correctly said do NOT use a impact such COULD snap the shaft
So I checked his clutch disk or plate whatever it is out today and a portion of the rubber around it is broken off so hopefully that's all what's wrong with it I've decided not to bring his mower over i don't have a hauler or drive so its easier for me to just go there and work on it where it's at and that's my plan
I was gonna gonna set it up on a jack stand to see were the bad sound was coming from but that one piece is all chewed up so I'll just change it out for em
