  • The S.R.I. Loop trail at Carnegie SVRA is a fun trail to ride in either direction, CW or CCW. You do need to be careful and not get too crazy since as with most trails at Carnegie you need to watch for incoming riders. This particular trail makes me think of a particle collider, since by not enforcing one way traffic it seems to be design to promote collisions.
Riding footage including Skydio 2 footage starts at 2:04.

This SRI Is not the same Stanford Research Institute you refer to with the particle accelerator but a high explosive test site . The small one lane paved road leads to the test site. It has since been decommissioned and they no longer do any explosive testing.

Thanks for great video! I grew up out there at Carnegie (lived in Tracy) and first bike was Honda 55 Cub Trail.... and then on to bigger bikes. The initials SRI of course stand for Stanford Research Institute and they did have (may still?) a research site way up at the end of the Kiln Canyon trail. Not sure it still goes through due to new boundaries and fences... But the 1st time I saw it was when riding off-trail and came upon a steel door'd bunker built into the hillside and research quonset huts nearby.... Was always concerned about some strange chemicals and so we didn't mess around there much... So, SRI site was up at end of Kiln Canyon, several miles maybe, almost to the ridge line.... Good exploring!!

I’m a beginner rider and have only riden Metcalf. Other than being multi directional, how does this trail compare to any of the trails at Metcalf? How’s the grade and traction?

Traction in most trails at Carnegie is really good right now just because it is so dry. There are a few sections of the SRI trail that has some short climbing sections as sown in the video. It is hard to compare this trail to any of the trails at Metcalf, but if you can ride trail 3, you should be able to ride SRI. My suggestion would be to go to Carnegie and ride all of their beginner trails first, this will help you get familiar with the park, and you will find small playing grounds (sometime unmarked trails) along the way where you can start expanding your riding. There is a link in the description section to download a pdf of the trails map. You can also get one at the entrance. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel!

I would recommend you ride the trails marked for beginners before attempting any intermediate trails with a heavy bike, specially if you are starting.

Furthermore, I would strongly suggest you learn how to ride off-road on a dirt bike first before trying to ride a heavy adventure bike. A KLR 230 would make a great beginners bike.
