    You broke down each rod pretty well. I personally don’t own any of them but I like how you explained what rod could handle what. Good video

      @@JohnHolliday1911 , they are great American Made reels, but heavy, if I saltwater fished more i would use mine more often, cause they are built like a tank!

    Love my whisker seeker fmj MH 7'6 rod fills amazing throwing and reeling in fish. Don't Like look or feel of rubber cork handle but it's not a deal breaker. Came from ugly stick catfish rods so huge huge difference. Just found Mad Katz and ordering one to flip out another ugly stick rod. If mad katz feel as good as whisker seeker I'll go with them for there killer looks and handles.

      The Whisker Seeker rods are really good! I’ve never tried the 7.5 foot, but, the 9.5 foot rods seem to do almost everything well. The reel seat fits large salt reels, and they lock down tight. I’ll agree, I’m not crazy about the rubber cork wrap. Mine have all held up well, I know that issues with the wrap shedding are pretty common. The Mad Cats…..the grip makes me like them more, I just can’t get into the small, odd feeling Whisker Seeker grip.

      Have you noticed the hookup ratio between your whisker seeker and the mad cat I have some slime cats Sumo porkchop rods and some whisker Seeker I think the whisker Seeker has a better hookup

    • @JohnHolliday1911
      @JohnHolliday1911  2 года назад +5

      Not really between the Whisker Seeker 9.5 foot Heavy, and the MadKatz 7.5 foot heavy to be honest. The Madkatz medium is a different critter, so I don’t think it should be included. What rod I have noticed seems to be consistently better, is the BNM Pro Staff Bumping rod Heavy. It has a substantially more feel and a really good action to it, and I think that translates to better hookups, for me at least.

    Mad Katz Medium has become my go to. The ML is nice too but meh throwing 2+ ounces. Lots of flex on a 10'b fish. The MH is just too much for most of my fishing. I keep them for the big rivers pitching a few ounces in current. Whisker Seeker upgraded the cork handle. Almost got one. Should have.

      The Mad Katz have become my favorite as well. They have beed really durable, and are aging better than that Whisker Seekers. The BNM is really a nice rod too!

    Makes me wonder what the MadKatz medium-light would be good for if the mediums are already geared towards channel cats. Thoughts?

    • @JohnHolliday1911
      @JohnHolliday1911  2 года назад +3

      I honestly can’t say anything one way or the other, I’ve never touched a MadKatz medium light. They medium has a lot of life to it, and handles large fish without issue, can’t think that the ML would be a bad pick.

    Well in my book it’s like this, any of those rods is capable of landing a 50+ pound catfish as long as the angler and reels drag setting do there part’s. The only place where I see a real effectual difference is to be had is slinging heavy weights with the rod because there the action and backbone will effect cast distance and if the rod can stand up to the shock loads.

    • @JohnHolliday1911
      @JohnHolliday1911  Год назад +2

      Very true! That is the main issue for me, will the rod that I want, handle the weight of the bait, and sinker that I want to toss. The lighter actions are perfectly capable of pulling in a fish, and, are normally more fun to fish, in most cases. Great write up! Thank you!

    Can any of these be used for saltwater shore fishing?

    • @JohnHolliday1911
      @JohnHolliday1911  2 года назад +3

      In my opinion, they would be a bit short for that, unless you’re running lines out with a kayak.

    Of course whisker has longer arch cause it's 2' longer rod

  • @FishinNStuff
    @FishinNStuff Год назад +1

    In all fairness , and I'm not a whisker seeker fan boy at all .but you can't compare a 9 1/2 ' rods action to 7 1/2' rods . I prefer the HellCats but you still have to compare Apples to apples. But still it was a nice review

    • @JohnHolliday1911
      @JohnHolliday1911  Год назад +1

      I know it, I just tossed it in because I had them, and, it was a point of reference. I'm torn on the Whisker Seeker rods, there is nothing really wrong with them, but, I also don't know that I would buy them again. For bank fishing, they do pretty well. HellCats, I've never even touched one. Seems like they are red hot at the moment, but, I also need more rods like I need a visit from the IRS. I do admit to looking at their longer rods for bank fishing, maybe one day, and I have 100% NOT been looking at the new Patriot rods......nope, not at all. Thank you for taking the time to stop by, and leave a comment, not often I see RUclips royalty! lol
