Man. I just keep coming back to this. I think if I made it to heaven and handed Jesus my guitar and he played exactly what I just heard here, I would be thinking “yah. Wow. That’s what I thought it would be like here. This is gonna be great. I am so glad I made it.”
@@gottfriedgfrerer it’s really really good and now I hear others who have obviously been influenced by your interpretation of this piece and made videos also. They really should mention you. Yours is the best slide guitar Version of Amazing Grace I have heard.
@@davidpeightal4918 Thanks again for your encouraging words David and great to hear that my version inspired other people! I always wanted to become an influencer :)
As a guitarist this is the best, most soulful version I have heard...played from the heart. I fully concur with the Jeff Beck comment. Beautifully done my friend!
I was looking for something worthy of finally putting a slide on my left hand after 40 years of finger picking. This drew me in slowly with more and more intricacy and intimacy on the melody, with some nice left-hand techniques as well...think I'll give it a go, thanks for the post!
Very beautiful rendition of this tune, great style and delivery, both strength and delicacy in the playing. This song is a blessing. Next time sing it too...
Gottfried David Gfrerer hi Gottfried, the reason I love your version mate is because the song basically is not meant to be a song you jam on or see how many licks you can put into it. You letting the song breathe I think, helps retain its intentional meaning. The song is about the lyrics and when you read about the authors life and the grace God showed that man, you just don't want to be distracted by extraneous extra notes. Nicely done and it's beautiful sounding National Steel. I hope you have a great New Year mate. ❤️🙏
From the heart with feeling, your a real good picker buddy, that"s a great tune gospel blues. That guitar has great tone and you can tell it"s been played,God bless and thanks a lot.
This guy REALLY makes me wish I could finger pick better... I've played guitar for years but I'm brand new to playing with a slide...it's awesome, can't wait till I can sound like this
@@gottfriedgfrerer I started off playing classic rock jazz, and folk music. Eventually I started playing more modern rock and metal, but that was just because the band I was in went that direction. Over the last few years I've been listening to alot of bluegrass and decided I wanted to learn to play with a slide...it looked easy at first because it's all open tuning but then you start playing and realize you need to do alot more work with your picking hand than before...it's kind of backwards from how I've learned so far...it was all about moving the other hand and fingers faster to hit more notes, now it's more stationary but you have to be MUCH more accurate with your picking and each finger can be at their own tempo... I watched some of your other videos too before my first comment, so if you have any tips I'd really appreciate it...
@@joshwiltgen7209 You are absolutely right - playing slide guitar is a little bit like flying a helicopter. Right and left hand damping is very important for a clean sound and there is an endless range of microtones in between two notes, which can change the mood of a tune dramatically. Playing a lot is the key :-)
AHHHH those lovely Birds.. They add so much!!! There is a part in your version that wrenches my heart when the song gets to it ..Its at number 48 49 seconds, and the harmonics at 157 and 158 moves me as well... i have been re learning ,and re working my own version ..and I Hope you don't mind I Am learning your version note for note...Simply because ITS Damm good ,I have been learning cool guitar things from you, and ,even at 61 years old I am all ways learning something new ...I THANK YOU So much, for your great style and influence ...I will make my version come Alive With a few of your sweet bottle neck slide guitar parts and if I vidio record it You will be credited ...Keep playing, and Stay Happy.. Now is a great time To play and Write some blues BE WELL!!!
EXCELLENT VIDEO I am going to learn this! I taught myself Amazing Grace in D on my G harp (2nd position/cross harp. Too much to explain here.) years ago. The bends make it sound very similar. You sound GREAT!! I need a resonator bad(ly).
I love this. I told my wife to have this played when they scatter my ashes.
