    Nanou and Grinch you have made a lot of progress on the allotment. It's only February and you have the beginnings of an awesome no dig plot. I wouldn't worry too much about stony or bumpy ground, things will grow. Get yourself an outdoor rug and a bistro set for the plot. It will be an instant seating area that can be moved about.

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  Год назад +2

      Thank you so much ! I have already bought a second hand bistro set with 3 folded chairs and a folded table for the plot. I just need the shed ,that is laying in bits on my patio, to be built so I can store them in ! The outdoor rug is a great idea ! I love that suggestion ! I will look around for one. 😄👍

    Ye are doing great work ! Over half the plot turned covered and manured and still only 1/2 way through February, keep up the good work and you’ll be ready for planting 🙃

    Sorry about the stones. 😢 If you have an area where you want them out you might consider getting a screen where you could put on a shovel full and shake it like a sieve.

      Thank you very much for taking the time to share our new journey on our little plot ! It is slowly taking shape and we cannot wait to get growing. The fish and chips was great after such a long day and we filled the car with cardboard !!! 😄👍

      @@plotno.9Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your journey on your 'little plot'...?... (compared to mine yours is rather huge :~)
      plus,.. i wonder if a car was named a 'car' for the sole purpose of collecting car-dboard... hmmmm....

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  Год назад +2

      😂🤣 How wonderful ! You gave us such a good laugh this morning, you are absolutely right ! It is called a car for ‘car…dboard ‘ 🤣. Yesterday I passed a COOP which had loads of cardboard boxes outside ready to go in their bins. I just stopped and took the lot ! I am going to get known in the neighbourhood as the strange woman going around in red Panda collecting cardboard !!! It is lucky that I am too old to care 😆🚗
      When it comes to the size of the allotment, I think it is small, Grinch thinks it is huge ! I suspect I might change my mind when I will have to water it in the summer !!!

      @@plotno.9i'm a bit of a cardboarderhoarder myself, although i'm not a no-digger. i lay the cardboard on the surface and plant through it in an attempt to curtail weeds, particularly bind-weed. i'm going to experiment this season by lining an 8 inch deep trench with cardboard, refilling with soil and sowing carrots in them.
      On a side note, i'm currently working on an introduction video for my channel.
      Take care guys. Catch up later.

      Thank you so much ! I have been worrying if it was boring for others to watch us struggle with clearing the plot, but in the same time, we want to show the reality of taking on a plot and the hard work it takes to getting it to the exciting stage of planting and growing. Despite the hard work, I hope it does show how much we love the plot though ! Thank you again for your very kind work. 🌸

    Little steps, little steps, you're all slowly getting there, but getting there you are.
    Quick suggestion, since you are about half way, at least it looks like you are. When next you have to peel back the weed suppressant fabric, do so from the other end so you no longer have to walk over the newly prepared area.

    The previous plot holders probably had a water feature/pump to keep the pond clear and not stagnant or were using gravel paths instead of wood chips. I had a decorative stone garden with plantings in my front yard at one point but it was just so hard to maintain I dug it all out and put in patio stones and a walled garden bed instead. The stone area would be a good place to position another pond, seating area or shed. I agree that raised beds on top for shallow rooted plants or ones that require good drainage should work out well too. You are a hard working group and quite an inspiration. Raspberries are super easy to grow and spread like crazy from the roots. I do prune my canes in winter/spring to 3-4 ft tall but never cut my canes right down to the ground unless they are dead. The dead (spent) canes are easy to spot, they are brittle and hollow. I started out with a small patch, ended up with 3 patches and have given canes to pretty much all my family and friends with gardens.

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  6 месяцев назад

      Wow! Amazing how well your raspberries propagated! I find it is always such a joy to share produce and plants with loved ones! The raised beds on top of all the gravel have worked very well so far, perfect for drainage. The plants seems to love in there! 😘💕🌸

    Are the stones a path? Sorry as I watched I realised you guessed that too. The "mound" might just be the topsoil from where they dug the pond out (lazy devils couldnt be bothered spreading it out as mulch)❤😂❤😂 Stony ground is good for Mediterranean plants, herbs, silver-leaved and perfect for a deckchair and table with wine cooler!

      This is good to know, we thought all vegetables needed smooth soil, not just carrots. It is a good thing because we have even more stones on the plot than we have weeds ! Thank you very much for the info 😊

    Great idea to change the way that you are planning to use the piece of land with all the stones. For the very stony area you could try a pretty tall raised bed (maybe 2 pallet collars high). You will be able to grow most things in that bed and it will be an interesting feature in your allotment :). You got a lot done again, spring is getting closer but you are going to reach your goal! DONE NOTHING!!!!!!! JUST WATCH YOUR FIRST VIDEO!!!

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  Год назад +1

      We have done the video with seeds this week, Fluffy just need to edit this one as he used three phones ! There is no way I can help him with that. I have started editing the videos, I still cannot do the writing bit and the music, Fluffy has to do that, but it has helped to edit the videos quicker. I try not to take too much of his time as he is in his final Degree year and he also has a very busy schedule doing concerts.
      When it comes to building the shed and the greenhouse, well , Grinch is watching avidly the 6 Nations Rugby thing, it last quite a few weeks. I am getting very frustrated looking at the weather improving and I am itching to get planting. I have started my first seeds indoor this week ! The positive is the plot is getting cleared properly and that is a good thing. 😊

  • @PWRDWNSYSRestartNo

    The previous occupier of the plot might have done a huge stone removing exercise at some point in the past, and rather than lugging the stones away, used them to build a path? But yeah regardless, not much help as you’ve now got them to deal with…

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  Год назад +1

      Our plot neighbour told us that the previous gardener used a rotavator and he thinks that is where all the stones come from. We just cannot believe so many stones come from a small plot ! Anyway, we are finding ways to deal with them. Thank you for your very kind comment 😊
