    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  6 лет назад

      Amanda, the secret to good soil in to feed it with lots and lots of organic matter, let the worms take it in through winter for you, I would suggest with a 6-8 inch layer of well-rotted cow manure for the first year, after this you can mulch through the growing season with woodchips or compost, then next winter more manure or even a green manure to help with nitrogen, you need to feed the soil to get the life back in to it. thats the secret get the worms and micro organisms back and they will do the job for you. before long your orange clay will be like dark brown compost and full of life

    Thank you Brian for all your great videos. These RUclips allotment video are an enormous help.
    My land is a South facing slope, very light, sandy and acid so probably not the norm. In the 70s I read a book by a Dr Shewell-Cooper on minimum cultivation and this is a system I have adopted and this has been very successful for me. A couple of years ago I bought a Chillington and Canterbury Hoe which make a fantastic combination. I must admit that there are a lot of slugs but nematodes from a company with the great name of Nemasys.
    We have a few Wolf tools but I have never seen that tiller before, it looks brilliant.
