- Palestinian authorities say one in every 100 residents of Gaza have been killed over the past three months. That’s more than 23,000 dead, nearly two-thirds of them women and children. This human toll is front and center as Western officials visit the region expressing increasing concern about the situation. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken today has been meeting with top officials in Israel to persuade them to protect civilians, allow more aid into Gaza, and try to prevent a wider war. The German Foreign Minister is in the occupied West Bank, where she condemned Israeli settler violence towards Palestinians. But is the Israeli government listening to its strongest allies? And what are the long-term consequences of such destruction? Haaretz Columnist Gideon Levy says there’s no way to explain Israel’s conduct in Gaza. He joined the program from Tel Aviv.

I think many people do not really understand the middle East or what it is really about. You will hear comments about occupation, land but all this does not really explain what is going on in Gaza. Gaza is run by an ideology and religion. There is nothing but this and the greatest thing someone can do is die for this ideology. They believe in the end only Islam will exist and they need to eliminate the Jews first and then the rest of the infidels. Because the ideology is to rule the world there is no room for co-existing. So when Israel agreed to the Oslo-Accord the only thing it brought was the intifada with suicide bombings several times a week. This killed over 1000 Israeli's. Prior to having the state. There were Jews living then in Israel and they would kill them and massacre them and then they had the 1929 massacre. The Mufti came to Hitler to tell him he would hand over the Jews. When Hamas came in to Israel on Oct. 7th. It took the lefties, Progressive, the right but it also took Philapinos and Thai workers. It didn't care because in the end they will kill them all. If you look around the world and you see what is going on why is the Pro-Palestinian movements so big? Qatar and Iran send students to study in the US and to get them indoctrinated and understand the Western culture. These are the leaders that cause these uprisings that is why some leaders are talking about taking away the student visas. If you are Jewish then wake up. Why do you think that they always take Jewish hostages and not Arab hostages. They know that if they fight another Arab country the country won't care if they took hostages but Israel will care about it's people and will care even for 1 person they traded Gilad Shalit and Sinwar was in that deal.

As a fan of Amanpour and Co, I am puzzled why almost all your interviews are 18 minutes, except when it comes to critics of Israel. All of sudden the interviews are shrunk to 5 or 6 minutes. And some are never posted on your youtube channel. Giden Levy, 6 mins. Josh Paul 5 mins. Mustafa Barghouti, 5 mins. Fawaz Gerges, never posted on youtube. Ayman Safadi, never posted.

I struggle to believe the Israeli public aren't aware of what's going on in Gaza, they can follow international media. Are they also not aware of the apartheid system, as most of them serve in the military. I do admire Mr. Levy's honesty though.

There s no apartheid. The Palestinians in the West Bank are in the same situation the Japanese were in after WW2. Japanese attacked US - and Arabs attacked Israel. Japanese lost and were under US occupation - and Palestinians lost and are under Israeli occupation. But Japanese, unlike Palestinians, understood that they have a future, built a western society and signed a peace treaty with US in spite of the atomic bombings. Palestinians on the contrary are stucked in the past. That's the difference.

Respectfully, I suggest that you think harder about the question “what are the goals of Israel?” In this interview, you reiterate the Israel government’s declared goals in this war. Yet, it would be no longer a conspiracy theory to state goals that have been publicly announced by this government’s officials: the usurpation of the Gaza territory for the expansion of Israel’s settlements. To this end, the Gazan population must go and never return either from the realm of the dead or other countries where they may potentially find asylum. Again, with profound respect.

The loss on both sides is tragic. But the responsibility lies solely with Hamas. If Hamas surrenders without condition the war will finish immediately.
The brutal occupation and Apartheid policies are the greatest recruitment tools for Hamas. If you look at the IRA and the South African armed resistance wings, they immediately lost the will to carry out violent attacks because they finally had won peace and equal rights with their oppressors. You can't expect to keep your boot on someone's neck forever and expect them not to react.

There is a problem with disputed territories that were under Jordanian and Egyptian control until 1967. Both countries didn't want those territories back after signing peace agreements. Moreover, the "Palestinians" refused to sign a peace agreement and have their state 5 times because their sole goal is not independence and normal life but the destruction of the state of Israel and the genocide of the Jewish population. The United Nations and Britain had to decide where to put the Jews after WW2. They first thought about Uganda, then Argentina…but finally decided on Palestine. At that time 1948 and before …Palestinians lived in Palestine, peacefully.
The United Nations brought the Zionist Jews from Europe and on May 14/1948…Palestine became Israel. The Palestinians were forced off their land …some went to neighbouring countries and some went to Gaza. The genocide started in 1948.
If only the United Nations had picked a deserted island in the Mediterranean, instead of Palestine….the Palestinians would be living in peace now.
