    What really scares me is if it's NOT Aliens, Bigfoot, Serial Killers, or just getting lost. That would mean there's something in the woods we know nothing about. Not every case is extremely mysterious but the ones that are makes it really hard to be a skeptic.

  • @TheMagicfish33
    @TheMagicfish33 7 лет назад +39

    I have spent a lot of time pondering this mystery and I have also read the books by Mr. Paulides. And I have 2 theories.
    1. An abnormal weather phenomenon.
    Since these particular type of missing people are often found without their shoes and bad storms tend to occur after there are one of these odd missing person cases, it reminded me of a car accident I had been in. A drunk driver T-boned me, but they hit me with such force my shoes came off. I was in my car but my shoes both came off and were found quite a ways away. What if a wind is hitting a person so hard their shoes come off and they are lifted and dropped a long way from where they started? And an unusual wind could happen before a bad storm. Just a thought.
    2. What if there is some animal in the forest we have yet to discover that is a predator that hunts by mimicking us or things that would lure us away? Many animals mimic other creatures like themselves. Snakes will imitate poisonous breeds of snakes.(although God only knows how. How does a snake know what is looks like? How does a praying mantis know it should look like a flower?) Anyway Insects will mimic other less tasty insects to avoid being eaten by birds. Plants imitate other plants, etc. What if there is an animal that can imitate a tree or a human? I would be more surprised in the long run if there wasn't a creature that could either imitate us or has learned to lure a human the way we lure deer with whistles and animal calls?. Or a plant or tree that can put a human in a trance with chemicals. It may sound silly but there are many other examples of this in nature. Anyway I Just wanted to share these thoughts. I really enjoy your videos even though the subject is sad....I love a mystery.

    There are beings in this world/realm we are unaware of. Some of them live underground in the forest, ect. This is my intuitive perspective.

    It doesn't matter who is narrating, at least it isn't an automated voice that sounds like a robot and pronounces words wrong....anyway, though some of you may think it's nuts, there is something supernatural going on here. In this day and age it's not as easy to vanish as it used to be. There are various forests in the world that are home to the same type of stuff, but with a much more open mind to supernatural phenomena. I live by the Adirondacks, and have gone to places in the forests and mountains where it's got a really strange vibe, and gotten "lost" while on trails I already know. Sometimes there are living beings of unknown origin around hiding from you. No matter how you look at it, you've got to admit it really is odd to see this many people completely vanish-poof! I hope their families will be able to gt their loved ones back, even if they aren't alive anymore. the not knowing has to be torture!!!

    I've been to both to Mount Gorge and Columbia National Forrest... beautiful places but also REALLY freaking creepy at night! I SWEAR I see things moving around outside the tent, like last summer my dad, son and I were camping and I caught sight of something walking around my tent at around 1 am. Thinking that it was my dad (he gets leg cramps and walks around at night) I paused my music and to my utter horror I could hear him snoring away in his tent a couple of feet away. The things were walking upright, had LONG arms and it looked like coats on. I don't believe in Big Foot or anything like that BUT it wasn't my dad!

    Anyone else following the 4 missing hunters from Fort Chipewyan near Wood Buffalo National Park, Alberta, Canada? Missing since Monday April 24th 2017? The boat they were using was found afloat, empty, with some damage. One boot was found. One body was recovered from the Rocher River so far. They were heading to hunt to a place called Devil's Nest. All four men were armed and very experienced hunters and outdoors-men. In fact 3 of the 4 were Rangers. More than 100 searchers and 35 boats have scoured the area so far. My thoughts and prayers are with their families.

    My god. This shoe thing is like a joke now. I mean, like somebody is playing us. No wild animal takes the shoes and leaves the dead body behind (that surprisingly shows no causes of death). It has to be people, as always. Either a whole group/organisation of people who are hiding something in those parks and getting rid of everybody that stumbles upon them, or just somebody plain evil who enjoys killing innocent hikers.

    • @mlwsmp
      @mlwsmp 7 лет назад +3

      Eva Bergant It would seem to me that maybe an organization, that's a lot of people for it to be someone who just hates people. Just my opinion of course. This blows my mind! I honestly hope their dead and died quickly so that they are not out there somewhere being continuely harmed. :( These poor people and their heartbroken families.

    • @patr70
      @patr70 7 лет назад +3

      Eva Bergant The vanishing of the children that happens right under their parents noses is a indication that its( in a large percentage of the cases) is an alternate life force that is taking them. Too many are found far away from their original point of dissaperance and often in rugged areas. If you watch a few of these videos(not just one) you quickly sense that its a force or being that is taking a large percentage of them and not just mere mortals.

      If you think about the massive amount of land and the millions of people that visit these places, the ruggedness and variations in the geology, flora and fauna, it's not surprising that people disappear. For example, one boy was just running a jogging route and was meant to come in directly behind a friend. They were very familiar with the area. A massive search was undertaken with dogs, helicopters, many on the ground searchers. Then, a year later, his body was found at the bottom of the cliff, off to the side of the track. He had changed his routine, went to check the view and appeared to slip and fall, fracturing his skull. No one thought to search there because it's easy to be obscured by the overhang of the cliff and more importantly, it's not exactly where he said he would be. Apart from the occasional foul play, I think it's normal that people disappear like this.

    • @awakenedhobbit1977
      @awakenedhobbit1977 7 лет назад +18

      Ummm.. so how does one explain missing their shoes and clothing?! Some lose direction, yes - but the vast majority of these are beyond normal circumstances..

    • @SueMead
      @SueMead 7 лет назад +10

      *+Awakened Hobbit*
      I can't answer that completely but certainly people end up disorientated and hypothermic. The former will result in you wandering around in circles and not making sense and the second one, you end up very warm and start to remove items of clothing, even though you're actually freezing. Also, you have to remember that these areas have wild animals such as bears, mountain lions and wild boar that can be very aggressive.
      Austin Oldfield (who appeared in one of these videos) was found alive by two hunters, walking around in bare feet and disorientated. They tried to help him find his way to the road but he ran away. They said he was very thirsty. Later a man and his daughter picked him up hitch hiking in a really dishevelled state. So, who know what was going on there.

    • @richardhelliwell1210
      @richardhelliwell1210 7 лет назад +5

      Sounds like Austin was either on drugs or had a mental condition. I think the parks and open spaces are far less remote than people imagine, and that many homeless people live out there off grid. I think that's the reason many are found without shoes, as these are valuable and are taken by the homeless who discover the bodies.

    • @awakenedhobbit1977
      @awakenedhobbit1977 7 лет назад +16

      Agreed.. perhaps with Austin.. but that still doesn't explain children doing it. Or the very sober doctor for that matter. David Paulides took meticulous care in interviewing people who spent a great deal of time hiking in the Himalayas - and posed that very topic about shoe/ clothing removal. The answer was very clear, "You'd have to be crazy".. they had never experienced symptoms like that in their 40 years of trekking. :/
      The whole time I was watching these videos my mind kept flashing back to a time where I was hiking with my then boyfriend in the Colorado mountains. We had trekked for hours and made our way back to the car. Night was falling upon us and we thought it might be nice to just off road and open up the sunroof and do some star gazing. Well.. we were about 20 minutes into that scenario when I started to feel panicky. I mean.. REAL panicky. First, I made him close up the sun roof. Still no comfort. It got to the point where I somehow felt SO strongly.. like we were being watched. The sky felt like it was going to fall upon me - and if you have ever seen a dark Colorado sky, you would know almost nothing compares to its celestial beauty. BUT - something was WRONG. We were high up on some distant road.. and I couldn't feel worse. We retreated. Wasn't until we drove back to Aspen I began to feel better.
      I don't know what that was.. to be honest. All I knew was - get out. Get out right now. Thank the heavens we did... (I wasn't dehydrated or hungry or high lol.. ) Anyways.. just interesting IMO.

    I can't stress enough how careful you must be out there. There are many hazards and there are entrances to facilities underground out in certain parts of wilderness. I was hiking in NJ and I won't say the area but there were like vents or some sort of ventilation holes in the ground somewhat inside a small cave. My gf and I got somewhat spooked and decided to leave. I'm almost positive the cave went back much further into a system. I am no spelunker and wasn't going any past leaning in the opening. I know there is something going on underground and whatever is down there I've heard looks like the devil himself. Reptilians or something.

    Just what I needed to reminded of as we're about to head into decent weather here in the Pacific NW. Four of the places mentioned in this video are places I've hiked at. I've hiked the Eagle Creek trail at least a dozen times. There are some dangerous spots on that trail. Places where a cable has been drilled into the side of the rock to use as a hand hold since there's not much of a trail. It is also not far from populated areas, which in my opinion makes foul play more likely than in very remote areas. However, it was very weird that she was found without shoes. I don't remember hearing that on the news. That's definitely in keeping with the 411 cases.

    Hey, Carl! That was some great info, especially since I happen to live in Oregon. Here's a few things I MUST point out to ANYONE coming to hike, camp, or just enjoy the natural grace and beauty here in Oregon, PLEASE don't buy into the myth of "following water in the direction it's flowing to get to safety when lost" because that's a great way to die. As you stated, the Cascades run north-south about 75 to 150 miles east of the Pacific Coast, so if you start following water (for example, the Rogue River) downhill [west] from somewhere around say Galice, you could end up dead. Just look up the Kim Family who got stuck in snow on Bear Mountain Road; the poor father was trying to follow the river when he died.
    And don't trust electronic devices to function properly everywhere 100% of the time, so bring printed maps and a compass, and hopefully know how to use them.
    Oh, and the last 2 things: DON'T hike alone and make 100% certain someone knows where you're going. Then go out and enjoy every moment!

    Carl, first off I would like to say I appreciate you taking over for Rusty and continuing these videos and all the hard work that entails. I think these videos are very important; you never know when someone might have information to help figure out what actually happened to these people . This is why I would like to point something out to make more of the information clear. At the end of case # 5 Jacob Gray who went missing in the Olympic National Forest you mention others that have also gone missing there, I appreciate this but I would like to address of a couple pieces of information that you gave after mentioning Gilbert Gilman. You show a picture of Gerren Kirk (#8) and say he went missing from White Pass, Pacific Crest Trail. However, Gerren went missing from Mount Hood National Forest not White Pass, Pacific Crest Trail. Kris Fowler ( #9) was the person who went missing from White Pass, Pacific Crest Trail. However White Pass, Pacific Crest Trail is not in the Olympic National Forest either, I believe it is in Mount Rainier National Park. Again I do appreciate everything that you and Rusty do, I just wanted to help keep the information clear. I love the videos, plan on continuing to watch and am looking forward to new ones.

    I have noticed an odd pattern among those who went missing or were found dead. Predominant number of them have Germanic, Cletic, or Nordic last names. Has anyone else noticed this? I find it statistically unlikely. Doesn't matter the person's actualy ethnicity, as some were of obvious Asian or African ancestry. There are exceptions to this unusual last name oddity, but look through them all and write them down for yourself and compare.

    this is just plain bazaar , it's obvious whatever is responsible has been here for a long time or has a sixth sense to where there able to predict weather conditions , I wonder if this thing has a sophisticated underground tunnel system in which they enter through a hidden cave of some sort of which they've made themselves and can camaflauge and seal the entrance with a big Boulder of some sort , to me the fact that those who come back and can't explain their experience or can't remember tells me that whatever is responsible might live in a area with large amounts of granite because there's a theory that being exposed to large amounts of granite in a sealed environment can cause delutions of time and memory , idk just something I have thought about due to massive search efforts turning up nothing on visible terrain , and heat radars aren't either , it's not like these people become invisible , I'm just trying to think of a somewhat realistic explanation to these completely out of this world bazaar cases , it's like this thing knows the routine of search and rescue by the back of it's hand , which explains the bad weather after these dissapearances , all I know is this being or whatever it is is intelligent and knows what it's doing , there's no animal known to man that can posess this level of intelligence it's beyond a logical explanation

    These cases occur much too often and having served a career in law enforcement and public safety I know the government keeps excellent statistics on this tragic phenomenon, but am perplexed as to why they choose to make public tracking of them nearly impossible. The only reason I can think of is the government fears that informing the public would result in a major reduction in the utilization of public parks. Any particular subset of society, whether it is vacationers, overseas travelers, locals, or college students, the effect would trickle outwards from the reduction in fees generated to the logistics and supplies industries, all the way to the banking industry, and that my friends is normally where the proverbial buck stops.

    My Dad was a forest ranger and a summer firefighter for 8 years. He raised all of us to love the outdoors, we are all avid hikers and outdoors people to this day.
    He always felt that 60% of the women disappearing or dying was due to coming across the wrong people, and that about 30% of the men disappearing was for the same reason. Killers or serial killers (or just murderous robbers) will gravitate to a place like a national park, what better way to disguise your crime?
    The rest met their fate through exhaustion, falls, weather and other causes, sometimes even stupidity. Their bodies are incredibly hard to find due to the extreme ruggedness of the country, the presence of carnivorous and scavenging animals, etc...
    Super interesting cases though.

    I think more disturbing in these cases is the lack of transparency by our government officials in the park service and the FBI. It makes me think they know something they are not sharing with the rest of us. Even strange or bad news about things needs to be shared so people can be prepared.

But, I'm curious, as someone who's obviously been helping Rusty, did you alert anyone when you found that lonely backpack? Since some people do research these, and sometimes even go out and look, I think a minor correction is needed to avoid possible confusion.
    At #8 you talked about Gerren Kirk, and you said he disappeared in the *Mount Hood National Forest.*
    Then at #5 you tell us about Jacob Gray, who you said disappeared in *Olympic National Park.* You then go on to say that this is the same place where several other people have disappeared;
    including Derren Kirk.
    But Olympic National Park and Mt. Hood National Forest are, of course, two entirely different places. Olympic National Park and the Olympic Mountain range are in the NW corner of Washington State, west of Puget Sound, while Mt. Hood is over 300 miles away, in the Cascade Mountain range East of Portland, Oregon.
    Hope this was helpful rather than annoying. Stay safe, everyone.

    I hike all throughout the Columbia River Gorge quite often. but I've only ever made day hikes and usually stay on the trails. it's so close to the city of Portland that it attracts all sorts of people, including the people you don't want to be alone in the woods with. but I've never encountered anyone or anything strange there over the past 6 years or so. it's there are so many of these stories where people disappear close to trails and during the day. even some just out of view of the people they were with. real life is definitely more terrifying than fiction.

    I'd like to know if a full moon was around the time of these peoples disappearances? Full moons cause strange things. I'm going to share a story and forgive me if it's a little long or not well written.
    When I was 9 years old my parents took my siblings and I on our regular yearly trip to Jordan River Campground on Vancouver Island. We went camping there every Easter weekend. The campground may not exist anymore. Last I heard the residents of the town were being forced to move due to the issues with the dam. I do know shakies shack is gone but I haven't been up to Jordan River in a very long time. It once use to be a beautiful little town. The campground was nestled inbetween the lush forest and off the coast. Truly spectacular views all around. After my family and I were done setting up camp my dad had asked my brothers and I if I wanted to go on a hike and collect firewood. I agreed but my brothers wanted to stay back at camp. We took the path alone the riverside heading towards the dam. We then cut into the woods to start collecting. After walking for what seemed like hours my legs got tired and I started to fall behind my dad. Something white in the corner of my eye catches my attention and I stopped to look. In amongst the trees in what appeared to be an opening I see something white laying on a fallen tree. Curiosity got the best of me so I walked towards it to get a better look. My dad didn't notice I had wandered off and kept walking. As I got into the opening I saw a shoe and a pair of underwear on the ground. The underwear was inside out and it appeared to be from an adult man. The shoe however looked to be a childs shoe. I glanced around but saw no one. Puzzled I stepped past and saw the white thing that attracted my attention was only a white tshirt laying in the fallen tree. It appeared inside out as well with some tears across it. It also had unsual brown stains almost like old blood stains but I can't be a 100% on that. I remember at this moment I started to feel really sick. I stepped back and looked around confused. Someting in the pit of my stomach was telling me something wasn't right here so I made my way out. I started to hear my dad calling for me and made my way towards him. I heard a loud snap from behind me. Confused I turned and said dad? but no one was there. I turned back round and continued walking when I heard a someone whistle from behind me not daring to look I ran out as fast as I could. I got out onto the riverside and looked around for my dad. I called his name but he wasn't there. I decided to run towards camp as this path lead that way. It was then I was struck with something hard in my back that almost knocked the wind out of me. I flew forward and head first went into the river. Thankfully only partially and I was able to back my way out. I panicked and grabbed my pocket knife and turned around to see no one but a big rock. Rain started to pour on me at this point and that funny feeling of being watched creeped in. I managed to stand up and noticed my back was bleeding. I then hear that whistle again and i followed the noise to the edge of the woods infront of me. I saw the outline of someone standing there and that was enough for me to book it as fast as I could to camp. When I got there I found my dad. He had gone back to camp to see if I got tired and came back to rest. I told them someone attacked me and in the woods there was clothing. They all looked at me horrified but also in disbolief. I had them look at my back and immedietly my dad had my mom call the police and my dad, uncle and brothers went to take a look. The rain was so bad at this point and it was getting dark. On the beach they didn't find anything. The rain was washing away everything. They found the opening I directed them too but no shoe, underwear or tshirt was there. No sign of anything. When they came back they all were scratching their heads. The police finally arrived and when I told them what happened they acted like I was joking. Infact they left it as "a girl with a wild imagination". They refused to take a look with my dad and wrote it off as nothing. How does that explain my back? We ended up packing up and left for home because I was so scared whoever it was would come take me when I was asleep in my tent. To this day this experience baffles me. I remember no details about who this person was. Was it a person? I recently came to hear of these 411 stories and I was blown away about the missing shoes and clothing sometimes found inside out that I wondered about my experience. I started to think I was crazy. The scary thing is this happened the day of a full moon.

      IAN PAYNE I think these hikers are being abducted by a Bigfoot. No shoes, or a broken leg means you can't get away! A lone hiker, or child is easy pickings for a Bigfoot! Also a Bigfoot would remove the clothing to get to the flesh, where as a bear, or mountain lion would shred right into the clothes And one more thing. If found, it's always in a rocky area farther ( or higher in altitude) into the wilderness. I believe these Bigfoots are the most intelligent hunters in the forest!

    Just in case Carl fills in again I wanted to give some feedback as a listener: the tone is a little too happy for this topic. Also word choice, introducing each missing person with "At number 5 we have!" Sounds like you're introducing candidates of a game show, rather than someone's loved one who went missing. Overall the quality of your voice is good, and I don't mind the faster pace. Just the tone and word choice that to me feel a bit off.

    There seems to be more and more hikers missing. Humans are very curious race, if you see something weird, don't investigate it, tell the park rangers about it. Watch your kids like Hawks, they can easily get lost. I saw a video about a husband and wife that went to a national park and they said the park rangers do not stay in the park after dark, which was bizarre. Since, they went going to be there, they decided to leave too, so as they headed out, they ran over something, it was pretty big. The husband got out of his camper, took his gun, and check behind his camper, and underneath. Nothing was there. His wife called to him and said lets go! He told her don't get out. As he moved, back to his camper, he heard a low growl and looked back and there stood a creature on 2 legs, face like a wolf. He shot directly at it, it didn't flinch, but it didn't move forward either. He rushed to his camper jumped in and hit the gas! He was glad he had a gun, so, if you hike, take a weapon!

    I knew Kris Folwer. I also hiked the PCT that year. He was way behind me, a good three hundred or so miles, so by the time I made it to Canada I had assumed he quit because it was so late in the season and because the snow started literally the day after I completed the trail (October 1st). When I learned it didn't and was missing on top of it I was pretty surprised at first, but held out hope he just went exploring elsewhere like a lot of hikers did at the end up the hiking season. The fact he still hasn't been found only makes it more confusing.
