sailing has the potential to be badass. They aren't doing it right at all. It should be instanced and unlock cool islands. The ships should also be glorious, massive with construction type upgrades. It could even be a small part of your home. imagine adding a dock!?!?!?
what if there was a way to have your large ship but also have a log raft, like in lumby, as a kind of life boat where you could drop that and have movement thats closer to the movement we have as players already. You could have a large ship that has 3 or 4 log rafts that you can drop and have buddies gang up on a larger ship, risking having their own large ship wrecked, but the other person is also risking the gang of damage to their ship if they dont have log rafts and buddies to drop of their own. this would also make pvm content easier because you could choose high damage but slow movement with the large ship, or multi zone it with buddies in log rafts, also risking your ship if the monster is targeting that and you dont pull his aggro fast enough. something like that maybe.
I don't know anyone who genuinely thinks sailing is a good idea. The only reason people voted for it is because it's just a huge meme. Never should've been an option to begin with.
2 No i dont fucking want it. I want to play OLD SCHOOL RUNESCAPE, which never had stupid sailing 😂 Add it as a minigame if they must, dont change the entire framework
I 100% agree with movement. Just make it able to turn fast because of magical forces. Have to have the wise old man come enchant the boat or some shit and it makes sense, boats can now move like players.
One of the reasons why it’s gotten so far is because we have a lot of rs3 devs that went to old school and ever since then we have been getting nerfs to things thet already work and updates that no one wants
@@WartimeRs I predicted this happening 11 years ago, I told folks osrs would over take rs3, then devs and players from rs3 would come over and turn osrs into rs3. And just like I predicted in little as two years in 2015 osrs began to over take rs3, and today has 3.5 x the player base.
been saying it since the start. player owned boats. sailing does not need to be a skill. at least with dungeoneering you could train damn near every other skill in the game. what can you do with sailing that isn't already part of crafting or construction that will be less painful than runecrafting or agility? and if anyone wants to go sailing that bad do it in real life. I have a boating license to operate any sea vessel under 21 tons. trust me if I can do it quite literally anyone can.

Well, they are showing very extreme situation, I hope they won't litter the ocean with rocks and tight passage. When in open sea, it might be as bad, but then if this is part of battle, it might be very limiting for fight designs.
ditching the turning radius all together is probably a bad idea, but being able to choose between big chunky boats that take ages to turn and small fast ships with a tight turning radius could be a good idea
That should be the case with the simple raft. That thing has such minimal size that you would be able to turn it around like a rowboat with the paddles.
If the turn mechanic doesn't scale witht he level, it's gonna feel like shit and feel annoying pretty fast, I agree with the video on that. But it would be nice is if the higher level give you better turn and you'd basically need 80+ for high end content. Like you need 85+ combat stats for end game bosses. You feel like progression of the skill in the way your ship feels when sailing. Also, smaller boats should turn more easily. So at high level you'd turn as fast as the raft, but with a big ass boat.
While I like the idea of exploring little islands in the ocean like it's that RAFT game I just think this is costing too many resources to develop. The turning of the boats should not be instant turnarounds in my opinion, that kind of defeats the aspect of the boats. HOWEVER! I think the turning should just be very small circles with the option to manually turn your boat around by using something on the boat. Like a rowboat being able to be turned on the spot with the paddles, I think the boats should get that ability, which will solve all for corner problem as well as have the interaction with parts of the boats that the devs are aiming for. This way you COULD move in the turning circle if you feel like you just want to keep going BUT you could also stand still, turn on the spot, and move accurately in the direction that you want without the turning circle fucking shit up. Will that look clunky? Maybe, but if you can do it on a real life rowboat why not on these osrs boats? I remain open minded to the options this skill will give, but I will say this: If Shamanism or Taming was the skill that won the vote we could have already had completely functioning areas to apply this skill in. I voted for Shamanism because I love the aspect of diving into the lore of the game and this could potentially double the map size without creating extra map chunks. Like if we were to be able to enter the Shadow Realm that the Mahjarrat use, except more confined to a spacial tear between the normal world and Shadow Realm. Would could have already had interesting encounters in empty/less frequented zones in the world. But nah, we have to push boats into the game for which we need to rework existing spaghetti code from 1998 and try to build a new movement system from the ground up. This was one of my biggest complaints about the prospect of sailing when they opened the voting.
Only good thing I see about sailing as a skill is being able to be a pirate. Other than that, I'll only use it if I am forced to for levelling / questing. I am open to trying it before I judge it completely, but looking at this so far, my expectations are low.
This should be easy either make smart pathing in areas u already been or certain areas can be smart pathed in certain levels like smart pathing to elves like 80+
I think the biggest problem here is, most people in the community wanted sailing in the game, but why make it a skill? You could create so much content just adding sailing capabilities into the game. I think making it a whole skill on its own is not a good idea. Just add it into the game and add content into the water or island instances, or whatever they want. It doesn’t have the mass capability to make it an entire skill without making it feel far too focused on everything other than just sailing. You have to add in so many other avenues. Just my opinion.
Sailing literally feels like its just being added for the memes & alot of players will just give up training it past lvl 40 lmfao, or slogging trough to 99 just to get their max capes back... _ANYTINHG_ else would have been far more interesting in my opinion

sailing has the potential to be badass. They aren't doing it right at all. It should be instanced and unlock cool islands. The ships should also be glorious, massive with construction type upgrades. It could even be a small part of your home. imagine adding a dock!?!?!?
none of what you said sounds good either. scrap the skill.
@@HughWanztino I don't really care what you think. Not even a little bit
@@trevorjohnson2693 🤣🤣🤣 you sure showed me
what if there was a way to have your large ship but also have a log raft, like in lumby, as a kind of life boat where you could drop that and have movement thats closer to the movement we have as players already.
Never should've been an option to begin with.
the other ideas were stupid
@@clownwrld7 how is shamanism stupid? but sailing isnt? are you sped?
Maybe at a certain level you can hire a navigator that will sail you around the map but you don't get sailing xp when you use it.
Big turn should exist but there should also be a button for back pedaling. I think that could add more mechanics for future high level sea PVP

No i dont fucking want it. I want to play OLD SCHOOL RUNESCAPE, which never had stupid sailing 😂 Add it as a minigame if they must, dont change the entire framework
Ship combat PvP mini game sounds kinda neat. Though I doubt it'll be very popular.
Your wack go play rs3 no one wants to play TOA for the next two years add shit to the game.
I 100% agree with movement. Just make it able to turn fast because of magical forces. Have to have the wise old man come enchant the boat or some shit and it makes sense, boats can now move like players.
I don't want sailing, no. I wont cry if it gets added, but not looking forward to it.
Smaller turning circle. Double the speed. Add half of POH to ocean w/ a dock and let me design my boat. Type shit..
What is this😭😂
They said fuck your max capes
One of the reasons why it’s gotten so far is because we have a lot of rs3 devs that went to old school and ever since then we have been getting nerfs to things thet already work and updates that no one wants
@@WartimeRs I predicted this happening 11 years ago, I told folks osrs would over take rs3, then devs and players from rs3 would come over and turn osrs into rs3.
And just like I predicted in little as two years in 2015 osrs began to over take rs3, and today has 3.5 x the player base.

Maybe have a boat that has better handling to help movement or an upgrade or perk or equipment of some kind.
Sailing segment is too long
been saying it since the start. player owned boats. sailing does not need to be a skill. at least with dungeoneering you could train damn near every other skill in the game. what can you do with sailing that isn't already part of crafting or construction that will be less painful than runecrafting or agility? and if anyone wants to go sailing that bad do it in real life. I have a boating license to operate any sea vessel under 21 tons. trust me if I can do it quite literally anyone can.
im scared that this is eoc all over again, i cant belive that the vote went throu. i dont know anyone who likes it everyone i speak to seem to wonder the same thing as me, who tf are these ppl who voted yes.
THank you for doing this. I knew to look up your channel to elaberate on this update
Well, they are showing very extreme situation, I hope they won't litter the ocean with rocks and tight passage.
When in open sea, it might be as bad, but then if this is part of battle, it might be very limiting for fight designs.
I dont like sailing so far but i think that a turning circle makes it its own thing and not just walking around but on water
ditching the turning radius all together is probably a bad idea, but being able to choose between big chunky boats that take ages to turn and small fast ships with a tight turning radius could be a good idea
It's like you've read none of their blogs lmao, that's exactly their plan

Still pissed we got sailing as the skill idek if I’ll even train this bullshit
I don’t think this should be a skill but it should be a thing to do in the game, almost like a mini game but maybe locked behind a quest?
If they let you rotate in place while still, I think that solves some of the turning circle problem
Fagex NEEDS more money😂
RWT will destroy this Masonic game
Fuck no. Makes me wanna cry.
Cry then
Only jagex would take a meme skill and run with it. So much potential wasted
I remain open minded to the options this skill will give, but I will say this:
If Shamanism or Taming was the skill that won the vote we could have already had completely functioning areas to apply this skill in.
To be honest i rather have dungeoneering or summoning added to OSRS instead of this
at least dung was kind of fun
@@guusgeluk3693 dung was total fucking dogshit but at least it wasn't sailing
No skill outside of combat is fun to train. What's fun is the unlocks.
Only good thing I see about sailing as a skill is being able to be a pirate. Other than that, I'll only use it if I am forced to for levelling / questing. I am open to trying it before I judge it completely, but looking at this so far, my expectations are low.
This should be easy either make smart pathing in areas u already been or certain areas can be smart pathed in certain levels like smart pathing to elves like 80+
We voted for it, it's coming either way
Who is “we”?
Not a fan of it as a skill and it'll ruin the clean 2277 vs 2376
This is exactly what happens when you give people on the Internet the chance to vote lol. This is exactly what people voted for why we back tracking now??
sailing seems like such an ass skill and addition to osrs
All they have showed us is proof concepts for the movement basically, it's clearly such a long ways a way from being completed that i think its foolish to cast judgement yet. I think it could end up good but could also end up being terrible.
@@squiginjr its sucks, we have teles to almost everywhere, why sail?
@@Rondigity92 wait for jagex to show us the stuff that's apart of sailing that is supposed to make us want to train the skill, you're reaction is like if they announced slayer and didn't announce any of the rewards for it and you said "oh my god i can just go kill any monster i want why would I train this skill". These comments are so refreshing coming from the reddit thread. Just incredibly reassuring that there are people that mirror my concerns about this skill.
The longer the dev time takes the more negative i see the view of it. it's not just a vocal minority either.
F no , new skills belong in rs3 not osrs
Does my opinion even matter since Jagex pushes updates we don't even vote for?
I've been hearing sailing is coming to the game for over 2 years now. They need to either add it or shut the hell up at this point
honestly im not interested in this sailing "skill" had my hopes up when i was younger but it was a prank back then, and watching this just makes me want to avoid it entirely.

Was really hoping the rumor's about sailing were just a joke, sailing? Really?
I would like to see Sailing added into the game... Just not as a skill. This in my eyes seems like it would make more sense as a new minigame. Let's see if they can manage to pull it off but currently having doubts.
King, dude, that's where you're wrong though. We dont have to have this in the game if we like it or not. Osrs is our game, this isnt rs3. We vote on freakin changes to pixtels on the construction icon for god sakes.
This skill needs to be repolled. The meme of sailing has gone far enough
Sailing is a meme from RS1 due to the dumb sleeping mechanic, no running and the existence of decorative ports and has been completely deprecated by teleports.
Would be cool if teleport and fast travel NPCs didn't exist.
sailing is about the journey, not the destination
teles is too good for the game, it would suck to get rid of them, but you can sail there to get some exp
I think having the ability to control the boats with WASD keys on M&K would make this movement style a bit more viable, but idk. I’m excited for sailing, but this skill feels like it’s going to be a bitch on mobile.
invest in pirate's hook now its 3.5m it was 10m a few months ago its gonna go back up after sailing release. everyones gonna want pirate cosmetics for fashionscape on release
Water agility? Hard no. Also pronouns wasnt polled
should’ve been shamanism, shamanism would also have been completed by now too
What is the actual point? We have teleports to everywhere in the game already.
i think they should honestly just make sailing a minigame something like throne of miscellania in a sense i don't think it will really be a big impact for a skill but much better if it was like a minigame or something you can do on the side that's not a skill
It feels like they want sailing to be slower than walking which is pretty lol
I can’t wait to level it to 40 on day 1 and then get reset after they discover a massive bug someone exploited
really wish they spent their time fixing dead content rather than forcing this through tbh
Why don’t they have a mast turner feature that turns the mast around to reverse the boat when it’s stuck
Jagex: Do you remember that shitty part of dragon slayer two where you were on a boat for 20 minutes? Well we turned that into a skill
