I have always had MC Adv., not that I wanted it but could not afford supplement premium. Why aren't all retired citizens given same basic retirement medical coverage? Some have always worked receiving lower income & have not been able to amass a substantial savings for premiums. I'm grateful that I have received eye exams & cataract extraction under MD Adv. but I still don't understand why government made a separate MC product.
Also we need transparent pricing for care, coverage as is done in EUA.

Sue - There are reasons to go with a Med Supp and reasons to go with Medicare Advantage. As you said, not everyone can afford the Med Supp premiums...that's okay. Medicare Advantage was created for a number of reasons, one of which was to give people the choice to go with a lower premium plan. Thank you for your comments. :)

Why don't you tell people how much all these premiums cost? We ended up using medical deductions for the 1st time when we used a supplement because of the premiums and out of pocket costs for drugs and dental. Now the premium is $27. My husband had cancer and we still didn't come close to costs under supplement.

Due to Medicare marketing guidelines, we are not allowed to put out any content that speaks to exact plans and exact premiums. That's why this video had to use general terms, like "overall higher premium" or "typically a lower premium versus..."
Thankfully, since you started out with a Medicare Supplement, you were easily able to switch over to a Medicare Advantage plan during the Annual Election Period...without any medical underwriting.

Good job with this video, but I think you should clarify more strongly the fact that Medicare Advantage plans are MANAGED care, and although these plans are required to provide coverage for the same services as Original Medicare, these plans, which are un by private insurers, are allowed to set their own limits as to how much coverage they provide for a given service, and they can dictate what treatments they will or will not pay for. This is because their goal is to maximize their profits, and it means that they can deny care that your doctor knows you need. On the other hand, with Original Medicare, as long as the specific service is covered and is medically necessary, Medicare will pay 80% and the Medigap policy will also pay its share.

Mary Beth McCoy - Thank you for your comment. It sounds like you're in the business. =o) You're right, our video doesn't really get into that particular element directly. I'm sure we'll do an updated version in 2022 to spruce this up and make it more clear that prior authorization is used often by Medicare Advantage plans to manage the care. I appreciate the feedback!
