The way Penny started understanding and managing Sheldon, thats amazing! Even Leonard fails to do that.
She was his biggest enabler! Sheldon would be 10 times worse because of Penny if it weren’t for Amy.

The way Penny instantly understands is one of my favourite things about this episode - when you think how far the relationship between her and Sheldon has come since they first met. (It's also very funny the way she delivers the line).
I think this was even stated some seasons before when Amy said that Sheldon and Penny have a "special bond" or something like that.

@@Kayoss13212just finished TBBT after I stopped watching it around season 8. I think the reason the landlord fixed the elevator was due to Sheldon and Amy winning the Nobel. Prior to this scene, there were lots of reporters outside.
@@Kayoss13212 Because an experiment in their young days went wrong and Sheldon put the barrel with rocket fuel Leonard was working in the elevator, which had turned into a bomb inside the elevator and sent it down while removing Leonard, saving his life just before it detonated. Of course, they didn't want to tell anyone it was their fault it got blown up, so it probably was investigated first.

I love those lines, but I can understand Sheldon. Even good changes might seem overwhelming.
Stupid line. The last four seasons were GARBAGE. The actors (especially Kaley) were lazy sellouts and stupid drugged writers as well as dumbass Chuck Lorre ruined it ALL. I really hated what was done to Penny’s character. She and Bernadette became the exact same character: blonde women who have high paying jobs and treat their spouse like SHIT. I hated Penny, becoming a pharmaceutical sales rep; I believe a woman like Penny, who thinks highly of herself and the way she treats Leonard shouldn’t make more money than the spouse. I’m all about equality, but when it comes to women like Penny, no.
Though, we expected something more elaborate like. "Yes, we all hate it, when this happens."

Food factory I work at has needed a new drainage system for its potato processing unit for four years. They've spent over £250,000 hiring tankers to pump it out when it gets clogged which is over four times what it would cost to replace the system.
And the reason?
'Haven't gotten around to it yet.'
lol. Yeah. Legally and realistically speaking, I’m surprised that it took the owner this long to fix it. No way he/she isn’t getting complaints from the elderly or disabled. But now that I think about it, since the elevator was blown up, it was probably still considered an active crime scene.
@@Kayoss13212not just about being a crime scene, the elevator was blown up, which could've caused a lot more damage than we can tell.
After all, elevators do have certain safety standards and fixing up the elevator shaft up to standards while doing it at times when the least people are around (hence why we never hear and elevator repair noises in the show) and doing it for a reasonable amount of money would take awhile.
Not to mention starting to look for those services could've taken awhile in the first place if there weren't already people with movement difficulties in the building since just saying no elevator on the property listing is kinda easy.

Well the Owner of the Building kept seeing it on TV and he probably felt it's his duty to fix it on account of it being all busted up on TV 'n stuff. lol
yea, any smart person would have sued them. Maybe they should have paid the bill but this long? No way, but this show is making fun of smart people so, its no wonder they didn't sue the apartment building to fix the one thing in the lease that made the building wheelchair or disabled accessible, which is required by law in most California cities.

Eh, In case you forget, the reason it was broken in the first place was because an experiment made by the three guys go awry and Sheldon took charge in disposing it to the elevator. Of course none of them would take initiatives to complain to the landlord to fix it. A better critique would be why other tenants did not complain about it.@@ravinraven6913

I always had a fan theory that the elevator was fixed all this time but they never removed the caution tape so no one ever just tried the elevator to make sure it was working for 12 years.

when I saw this I knew this show was making fun of smart people. it's a satire but these shows are always based on people we make fun of, so I dunno why I didn't notice before. In what state can you get by not fixing an elevator? Not California, so how smart they are, they never knew to say "hey, you fix this elavator or we are suing you and not paying rent till you do." Thats 12 years of free rent....for the whole building. Rent is what, $3,000 where they live for a 2 bedroom apartment? so thats at least $36,000 per house hold.
If you disagree with who we are laughing at in sit coms...do you think Beverly Hillbillies was a show that didn't make fun of its main cast? We are not watching thinking, oh they are so smart, right? The show is always based around people we are all making fun of and laughing at.

Hard to believe the landlord got
away with NOT fixing it for so long.
there was an explosion that shut it down in the first place. the fact the apartment block wasn't condemned because of possible structural problems is more alarming.
There was an explosion, remnants of a container, and residual rocket fuel in the elevator. There had to be an investigation followed by much litigation. Insurance won't pay out for an act of terror.
Actually, it's easy to believe, considering what landlords get away with in the state where I live 😢

Penny and Sheldon's friendship was one of the best part of the show, especially in the later seasons.
In my own opinion I have always thought that Penny is the one person who "gets" Sheldon the best, she always seems to know when she is needed by him.
Apparently they had to do two takes of this because the first time the elevator opened the crowd screamed way too loud 😂

They film before a studio audience then add "oohing" soundbites after based on how the irl audience reacted.
Someone made a RUclips comment pointing out Sheldon wearing a green shirt under a Superman shirt, which indicated a moment of weakness for him. In this scene he's wearing a yellow shirt below his Green Lantern shirt.

Sheldon should put it this way- the elevator was a part of his routine that had to be put on hold for a while, but now it’s no longer on hold and can be part of his routine again.
Doesnt work like that with neurodivergent people. It takes 6 weeks to build a habit/routine for a "normal" person. For neurodivergents it's more like 6 months. Imagine 6 months of feeling uncomfortable because something is different lmao

This scene is a great summation of how much of the standard plot you would understand if you watch the show, and be confused by if you don't.

@@BenE8844I for one liked that, because it demonstrated character growth. One of the first times Penny wasn’t so kind to Sheldon, was when she cleaned her messy apartment while she was sleeping. Another time was in the panty piñata episode where she banished him from the Cheesecake Factory, while refusing to “knuckle under”. When Penny was injured, he helped her get to the hospital and even sang Soft Kitty to her. The culmination of these events - understanding Sheldon’s social quirks and accepting him more and more for who he is and realize his actions have no malicious intent - was a good build up with how their friendship turned out in the end. That bathroom conversation they had during his birthday, about how she realized he’s one of her favourite people even if there was a time she would have bullied Sheldon like her sister did, demonstrated good character development and growth from both of them.
I understand you will continue to dwell on how the final 4 seasons have never turned out how you wanted, but sometimes you have to just appreciate and accept what happened, and let go of this toxicity that is beginning to make you start hating the actors too (like what you said about Kaley Cuoco).
@@Puggalug Dude, Chuck Lorre is an idiot, and he should’ve ended the show sooner. Like seven or eight seasons. Penny was also just a bad person overall and treated Leonard like SHIT, just like Bernadette treated Howard. That’s lazy writing; making them so SIMILAR.
Check out “What could have been”, by son-goku5, instead. Penny has a MUCH better fate in that story and doesn’t treat Leonard like SHIT. Sheldon even gets more of what he deserves.

Leonard and Bernadette only interacted in a major was one time, and that was during the scavenger hunt. Are you comparing one Bernadette interaction with several Penny interactions, to conclude Penny and Bernadette and similar and “lazy writing”? Critical thinking involves overall analysis, and not only the parts you want to use.

What I love most about that scene is how Penny breaks it down to Sheldon that change is inevitable because everything about life, including science, includes change.
That is when you start to see Sheldon exhibit some real growth as a human being

Entire Shooting of walking up/down the stairs was done on a single floor. The scene use to cut and the actors use to go back again and walk down/up the same stairs again pretending that it was the next floor.
Really? They didn't build a four-story soundstage to record the show?

one of the dumbest and showed they been dumb the whole time. If your elevator stops working, stop paying rent. 12 years of $3,000 is $36,000 they have leases that say the management needs to maintain the property. Sure Leonard and sheldon should have been arrested....fined....fined AND arrested. But since they didn't get in trouble for stealing that....jet fuel? They could have still gone to jail for the explosion. Which some how didn't catch fire to anything else....this show doesn't seem like it was made by or for smart people....
according to California law, if you have a dead beat landlord you can stop paying rent until they bring the safety and standards up to California level. over the course of the show, the land lord was paid over $120,000 for rent, to rent a place that violated all kinds of laws. Right...I don't believe our guys are smart at all then. Which means the show writers really don't know how to write for smart people without making fun of them too. They could have had their lease terminated or just not pay.
So the show is making fun of the characters. If they aren't laughing, we are laughing at them not with them.

That is pretty typical for shows set in large buildings when they don't want to/can't afford to make a real multistory stage for the occasional sequence like this.

Real ending would be none of our boys get together with a gal except howard. Penny moves out and Leonard marries a nerd, if he marries at all. Sheldon never marries and raj moves back to india alone because his best friend no longer has time for him for the....forced marriage to some one he has never met.

Would he have gone gay with Raj? 😮 Sheldon wouldn't of ever had friends nor would've met Amy nor lost his virginity. Stuart despite not being part of the main cast, wouldn't of gotten to where he was at, maybe even finally finished himself. Sheldon wouldn't of met so many celebrities nor had anyone to actually handle the tough times. Plus, he wouldn't of made things right with his own brother. A lot can happen from a simple game of Tolerance. Amazing right?

I could bet, that Sheldon was laughing at that moment. We could only see the back of his head, but the way she came up, being the first one using the elevator for decades, when probably everyone was waiting for that on set. And the way she directly looked at him, smiling SO hard but then got rid of herself again. That was amazing.
The last moment reminded me of Vegas Vacation. Clark, after realizing he's been a terrible person on this vacation says he needs to go somewhere where he can be alone. Eddie asks if he can tag along and Clark said OK.
"Eddie, has anyone ever told you you're bad luck?"
"Ya know, those were my mother's dyin' words. But I guess if you're covered in 3rd degree burns and yer foot's caught in a bear trap, ya tend to start talkin' crazy."
This is how you know the show is coming to an end

The difference between a live audience and canned laughter: When the elevator door opens, everything could happen: Cheers, laughter or surprise without an audible reaction. But it's cheers. So Kaley waits for as long as it takes while Johnny and Jim kill time, until the moment is exactly right for Kaley to counteract the cheers with a matter-of-fact-tone in her voice.
You cannot get this amount of highly detailed interaction with scripted replays of recorded audience sounds.
