My dad was a cameraman for 30+ years. Once while on a live broadcasting set an overhead light fell on him and broke his foot, and not only did he not make any detectable sound, but he moved the camera out of the way to avoid damaging it without the subject ever leaving frame and just kept filming. Nobody even knew his foot was broken until the show ended.

yeah, i never quite had Liam's racist thoughts, not to that degree anyways, but i had been around edgy whites (and an Asian kid grown up in white suburbs with white parents who loved saying the N Word multiple times a day) and so it rubbed off on me eventually to say the N-word, because between a couple of my closest friends at the time always saying both versions, and being on Xbox Live chat, and 4chan, it just seemed like it wasn't really that big of deal anymore, like only racists used it in a racist way, was my logic at the time.
it was through my mental gymnastics i found a way to tell myself that it was okay to say the N-word, because i had no racist intention behind it. the soft A seemed neutral or positive the way i always seen it used, and even the hard R seemed like it was corrupted and divorced by a lot of people who used it. it was like, when you say other swears, you are not thinking of the meaning behind them, it's just an expletive, a word of anger to vent.
now obviously, since becoming a Leftist, especially one that actually tries to listen to Black People, i have conceded that no matter how much i try to divorce the racist meaning, it is not up to me, especially a White Person, to decide if a word's meaning is severe or mild. it is ultimately up to the Black community conscious as a whole to decide who can and cannot say a word that carries such a heavy history behind it, just as i as a genderqueer who may or may not be pansexual, can gatekeep who can and cannot say words that affect gays and trans.
as someone who had leaned Libertarian for so long, i still personally don't really care about slurs, at least, they don't "hurt" me so much as they can annoy me. if anything, i like it when bigots use slurs, because it makes it easier to recognize them without as much cat and mouse of plausible deniability of "oh, it's just a joke, bro" because to me, and i only speak for myself, intent does matter, but it at least does give warning signs if i hear someone being too nonchalant about slurs now.
and to anyone who reads this to just be like "really? it took you over 30 years to realize that White people shouldn't say the N-word?" and that is not the point, a part of me already vaguely knew it was wrong, but i was trying to find excuses to say it because it both felt cool and powerful to say, and i get neurotic and frustrated when feeling excluded or gatekept in any way, so it took a long time to accept that sometimes, gatekeeping is necessary, even if you don't like it.

People are kind of taking the Liam thing out of context. He wasn't looking to kill someone black because he hates black people, he only knew the person who assaulted his friend was black. In his anger he was willing to be wrong and hurt the first black person who crossed him wrong. It wasn't based on his long standing hatred of a certain race or something was an irrational reaction based on little knowledge. It's still messed up, and could have been an actual tragedy if he shot some innocent black guy just walking around. I just don't see it as racially motivated.

Leaking something after 25 years that you're ashamed of isn't odd at all. There's a power that your shame holds over you (as anyone who has done something they've been ashamed of has felt), and one way to take away the power of that shame is to just let it out. Express what you did along with the same you feel and express how it made you feel. In some ways, it's very freeing to release and admit out loud what you did and the shame it made you feel. To admit something under duress is less freeing because you're being forced to admit it. But admitting something and expressing regret for your actions can take weight off of yourself.

    • @Quasiguambo
      @Quasiguambo 3 месяца назад +4

Brother, because the pay situation for teachers is SO BAD that is really a detriment to society.
I'm nearly 40 and I remember the names and faces and memes from every one of my good teachers that I encountered, and they made meaningful impacts on my life (small thought processes - but enough to remember)..
Obviously I have more teachers who slipped by my memories... actually that's not really even true, I think I remember almost every teacher I had...
From stories from parents with autistic kids, how the teachers ability to spot that there may be an issue, and take that developmental track into account, to actually get the situation sorted out... those stories are what made me realise that I shouldn't be a teacher..
... a childs teachers really do hold the futures of many, many of the children they teach, in their hands.
Bad teachers stick out, what lessons are imparted from the negative traces they leave in their wakes? Can even good lessons come from that? (Had a music teacher in my primary school that snapped and strangled a kid, not seriously, but of course he was fired... but it was an educational moment in terms 'breaking point' and self control..)
.... I had teachers who handled tragic moments from my childhood really well, in helpful ways... y'know more helpful than my family...
      Etc etc.
You must surely understand the point?
My stepson had a particularly good teacher.... made my sons school experience better every day for years.
I screwed the step daughter of a teacher who I had... my entire way through secondary school... and obviously he hated me the entire time. If I cared about my grades, then yes, that would have left an impact on my life.
If I had society my way, teachers and medical professionals would be the highest earners in society.
I don't imagine you read this far... to circle back around... I hear stories of teachers buying school supplies for students, out of their own personal money... teachers that are homeless living in vehicles, schools that just don't invest in their students to a basic degree, and teachers end up covering for that...
I took French classes for years... my teacher didn't give a F... I don't know a single word of French, never did. We had maybe 4hrs a wk classes for years. And not a word.
... It is just incredibly short sighted of any society, to allow increased chances for teachers to be bad at their jobs, or not be invested in their job.
Someone who's job it is, to inform and essentially raise the next generation of scientists and politicians (mostly not, we understand those teachers would likely be at private schools)... whatever, the custodians of our species.. the kids being taught, and the teachers imparting the needed skills, both.
Yes, it is a known meme (in my country at least), that teachers are those that couldn't make it as top tier specialists in their chosen subject.
      - But the smartest guy in my family is a teacher... was head hunted out of university to stay within the system essentially...
(and has had a fulfilling life, teaching and doing research projects... he just doesn't earn alot..)
      - But I never wanted to seriously commit to being a teacher forever, due to the weight of the job, vs the reward. I am evidently too selfish to merely be rewarded by helping to create good and happy humans.
But again, I recognise the importance, and teachers should be rewarded in a manner that is deserving of their contribution to society.
If everyone had bad teachers... there would be no society. If everyone had bad Drs... the same.
Apologies for the dissertation, it is one of the societal issues I feel most strongly about.

"If it's a bad paying job why take it" that's the problem it shouldn't be a bad paying job. Especially at how important it is. Teachers love their jobs they love to teach but they know that they deserve more.. it's not wrong to ask for more pay when you realize the future of the youth in in your hands mostly

@danielmelgar8918 You really don't grasp the difference between a teacher and a general job?
      Are you a child perchance?
If such basic concepts are beyond your reasoning then I guess you can't be reasoned with. I'm sure you'll figure it out when you have kids.
No parent wants a bad teacher or teaching experience for their kids.
