I became a Christian ten years ago as a struggling addict in jail. I cleaned up, got married, began pastoring. Then in 2015 I relapsed, got arrested and went to prison. My wife divorced me, my friends in ministry left me, and ultimately I lost my faith. I've been out of prison nine months now and rebuilding my life. I hadn't stepped foot in a church until last week. But when I did, I remembered the love of God that defined me for so long. I didn't feel it, but I did remember. The sadness comes in waves out of nowhere, and that connection to God isn't there. But I'm trying to hold on. It used to be that I would've told someone in my situation to "just have faith," but I see now that it's not sufficient. I'm thankful for men like Rich Mullins and Keith Green. Their music wasn't feel-good happy stuff. It was real and raw, and the kind of thing that hurting people need to hear when they've been left behind by the world and the church. I know I'm being restored little by little, and maybe one day I'll pastor again. That's where my heart has always been. As difficult as these last few years have been, there's hope on the other side of it. I know that from experience. To anyone hurting and unable to see the end of your misery, it's coming. No feel-good stuff here. No "when we all get to heaven." Better days are coming in this life. Pray for me and I'll pray for you.
God bless you, life happens to us all, 2 of my grown children are addicts, so my life is prayer!! Just remember God's love NEVER left you, people will for sure, but stay focused on Jesus, your relationship with Him, no doubt at all He will do more than restore you!! He's coming to get us soon, then our life really begins 💙🙏🏼📖🗡️
I listened to this while going through Chemo treatments literally "shaking like a leaf". I held on to my wooden cross and Christ's strength to get me through. Thanks to these words and Jesus' calming presence I had much needed moments of peace.
I searched for this song because I am making a playlist to bring with me to chemo. When This version came up, the first thing I saw was Stacy’s comment that she was going to start chemo. Then I read Karla’s comment. It made my heart leap to think I had found other ladies fighting cancer while searching for this song. I had chemo 4 years ago and had a four year remission. I have a recurrence now and face surgery followed by 6 rounds of chemo 4 weeks apart. This music is everything I need to get me through. Knowing Gods promises gives me hope and faith to believe I will get through. Bless you ladies who are also doing chemo or who are in remission. This song is perfect. ❤

Rich is one of the select Christian music artists that can break a brotha down like me. We all like to put on think skin and thick we've got it all together, but we'll soon realize that we need Jesus to hold us. Even when you're not a believer, I can bet an "Oh God, Oh God" will come out your mouth in a tragedy. I will *never* understand why Rich had to go like he did in '97, but it's all in God's hands, and I pray to God that we'll all go to heaven where we'll see him again... Now I've GOT to get my hands on the Ragamuffin movie..like, *now*.
Rich transcends race. I totally get what you mean about how we BS ourselves thinking were all together. I look around at my church and I don't see one black family. That says something about us and it ain't pretty. Jesus is everything man. They say there are no tears in heaven. When I stand before him and see him and it's not faith anymore but reality I will cry tears of relief and sheer joy. I have a simple prayer. Just be there God. This life and all that we go through Just be there God, Just be there Jesus, even if I'm going to hell. This reality we live and see many times I wish it would just stop. Peace!
***** Haha I actually meant how we all think we've got it all together, meaning our issues, problems, and the no need for God, but we all do need Him like in Rich's song. But I agree with you 100% We have like, 2 white folk, an oriental and the rest is black. I wish we as a church would be more diverse. We're too split. Even in the Christian music market. Contemporary Christian music is a different format from Gospel music... God doesnt' care about format. lol
I just watched it Sunday evening. "Awesome God" has been my favorite since the day I came to Christ 15 yrs ago. "Hold me Jesus" is always a good one to listen too when you need to be reassured He's got your back!
I didn't know much about him, but I just watched the movie Ragamuffin depicting his life. He was an awesome songwriter gifted from heaven. It seems his most inspirational songs came from his time of sorrows. This is just my opinion, but it also seems many of his songs show how depressed he was. As a worshiper and a songwriter, we all know his you feel inside can oftentimes be communicated in the atmosphere. He seemed so sad at times. I he is resting now in the arms of his inspiration ... the Almigty.
1999--Got fired from 2 lucrative jobs (had never been fired in my life before that) my dad died of a heart attack during Hurricane Dennis, we had to evacuate my mother when Hurricane Floyd came at us just 2 days after we buried my dad. (my parents lived 300 miles from us at the time). If it weren't for Him and His grace and strength I might not have survived. I heard this song a lot.
Hi Aimee I have just read your comments as I listen to Rich sing. What an amazing testimony from those huge trials. Your comment gives me so much strength. I hope u r seeing Gods live and faithfulness more and more.
I thought I was doing OK, I have been shaking, I am crying out to you now, please take these blisters off my heart. Your Word is all I have, please give me another chance to be the man of God you have called me to be, my family and I need you so much!
Continue to rest with the Lord Rich Mullins. Such a great talent such a great voice...indeed, your music has blessed us over the years. We miss you.....! Now Lord, please...hold me Jesus, cause am shaking like a leaf, You have been king of my glory, won't You be my Prince of Peace.....
I watched the movie last night. I thought it was incredible. I believe that people who are extremely tormented have a knack for shining on the outside...Robin Williams for example. Rich sang some songs that showed just how much pain he was in..."Jesus," "Hold Me Jesus," among others. He didn't always sing "foo-foo" Christian songs. He sang songs that our hearts need to hear. He was a lonely, torn man who wasn't afraid to show it. He gave everything he had to the Lord. What a blessing we have been given in him.
Loved the movie Ragamuffin, a real blessing to know there are others who follow God according to where Jesus leads you and not of man. Ironically, his views about traditional church dogmatism and views are identical to my own. Watching the movie was truly a blessing. As quoted from Rich Mullins: "A lot of the stuff which I thought was so different between Protestants and Catholics [was] not, but at the end of going through an RCIA [Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults] course, I also realized that there are some real and significant differences. I'm not sure which side of the issues I come down on. My openness to Catholicism was very scary to me because, when you grow up in a church where they don't even put up a cross, many things were foreign to me. I went to an older Protestant gentleman that I've respected for years and years, and I asked him, "When does faithfulness to Jesus call us to lay aside our biases and when does it call us to stand beside them?" His answer to me was that it is not about being Catholic or Protestant. It is about being faithful to Jesus. The issue is not about which church you go to, it is about following Jesus where He leads you." He truly lived according to God's own definition of pure and undefiled Religion and a great example of keeping oneself from being polluted by the world.. In essence, helping others who could otherwise not help themselves. James 1:24 Tragic way to die being thrown from the jeep, then run over by a semi truck. However, we all know Richard Wayne Mullins is in a far better place where no there is no more pain or suffering and well beyond our own imagination the glory God has in store for those who love him. But as it is written, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him." 1st Corinthians 2:9
Yes. I got that, "following Jesus where He leads you", I mean /really/ got it while I was in RCIA. I was raised Southern Baptist, went to a Church of God as a teenager, non-denomination church in my early to mid twenties... I was 33 when I finally GOT it--just follow Jesus.
Your quote from Rich is missing the last few sentences, which gives the whole quote a very different meaning! "If God leads you to the Catholic church, then you follow Him. So, the last couple of years now, I have been in Limbo about the whole thing. For me, it all comes down to the Eucharist. Is it really Jesus and is He present there? I think, after some pretty honest searching, I've come to a few dead ends that I am not going to be able to bridge by getting more information. It will just require a little more faith on my part, and it is not there yet." Rich Mullins From the article “Rich Mullins” by David Wang, April 1997 issue of The Catholic Register
I don't think there ever was a more honest transparent Christian musician songwriter. I cried so hard watching Ragamuffin. He loved one girl only and had such pain but kept standing on his faith in Jesus. When he finally got set free from his demons God took him home. I don't know if the girl was selfish or dumb in her decision to leave him but I know she caused him to live with unbearable pain. She envisioned what her live would not be like with him on the road never trusting in God that they could have a life together on the road. I really don't understand how she could have been so cruel as to not come to a concert, talk to him or anything. What a horrible thing to do to someone who had never done anything wrong to you. May God forgive you for hurting the most gentle soul on the planet because you had a predetermined picture of a life I am sure would never be as rewarding as if you had stood by him. He loved you so much and a love like that I am sure you will never know again.
I know she came to one concert after his father died but then it was took late. He didn't want to see her married to someone else. That pushed him further into the alcohol.
Tameko Wood I just saw the movie, which was great, but in reading the back story, I found that the girlfriend wasn't actually real, but a composite of girls he had known in his life. So not everything that happened w/ her in the movie was real.
Yes I understand but she rejected him when he got the Nashville proposal then refused to speak to him so she would not be tempted to him back or to give him a chance to change mind.
Yes, truly understand the Gospel and I don't understand what has turned someone against God. His word is full of hope and joy. It truly changes a person's heart, if that person wants to be changed. God wouldn't force them to change.
That's so cool. I actually live in Wichita, Kansas and when my Dad was alive he would always play his songs and I grew up listening to him, but i"m still growing up because I'm only 14.
Tonight I say the same: Hold me, Jesus, I am shaking like a leaf. "Sometimes my life don't make sense at all" but He knows all and He is in charge. Thank you, Jesus.
Pris Platt If it is a comfort to you, God knows very well what it is to lose a child, and the love he had for his son, like the love he has for us, is beyond understanding. I pray you continue to find comfort in Him.
Miss you Rich I wish and hope you would say Hi to my mom for me I know you are both in heaven. I would like to ask if someone would pray for me. my life is a mess please pray for me. Thankyou Rich for all the lives you touched. a awesome singer.
Thank you Rich Mullins for your beautiful music. Your music has inspired me through my music. Hold me Jesus, I'm shaking like a leaf, you have been kind of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace. Blessings and Peace
mrm64- God used Rich for his good purposes and it should give us all hope that as broken as he felt - he is in heaven! He was such a blessing to so many! Blessings to you!
God Loves us in our brokeness . And he loves us just the way we are. He is An Awesome God. If you haven't watch the movie Ragamuffin I strongly Suggest you do. Its about Rich Mullin's life & his broke ness how God Changed him in his messiness. It will make you laugh & cry. Let God speak to you through this he will bless you.
To know to walk in the arms of our lord is where is he is right now, but to leave the true heart of a man of god! thank you for your words that still lead us to his arms
His songs tell the exact same way I feel, only he puts it in words and melody. He saw the struggles of christianity, but he went through them, straight to God.
Rich's music continues to bring us closer to G-d every time we hear one of his songs. His talent to play and compose from a simple tune played with cups to the great symphonic sounds of Calling Out Your Name, (My Favorite), hasn't been matched by any other artist. May your lives be blessed by Rich's music when ever you hear him, and hopefully we'll all sing and dance with him soon at Messiah's wedding. Shalom
I've been struggling so for about a year now. Just recently discovered Rich's beautiful music & watched Ragamuffin. His music & words have helped me so much. He was so real & humble. So talented! Such an inspiration! Gone far too soon! But I'm sure he's singing in Heaven in his bare feet.😊
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but this video was shot in Wichita, Kansas at the home of author James Bryan Smith (his books are awesome, BTW!), where Rich lived for a time. He asked Jim if he could make "a few changes" to the attic and Jim and his wife came home one day to find Rich had taken up ALL the carpet, rolled it up and left it on the curb ;-) This song - wow. Still being used in my life. I am so grateful that we got to have this man on the planet for as long as we did. Love Rich!
He wrote it as a prayer song - and i do find myself praying that almost daily. I love all of Rich's music. It's like it was written today. (truth's like that... timeless)
but you know what, we have our own following of Christian music and we who love the Lord, and love our Christian artist and love each other.. will prevail Bless u
This man has so many gifts and talents that God give him. Thank you Jesus for blessing our lives with Richard Mullins songs and his words of praise. We love you Rich Mullins. I'm blessed every single day from a song or a word from Jesus. Thank you again. I only wish we could have met but Jesus took you home. We will see you in Heaven one day and get to hear your beautiful songs from your heart to ours they speak to us. Thank you Holy Spirit. Friends Always ,Kelly Tillery
I love Wichita. What a lovely memory, musicforever712 - I'm so sorry your Dad isn't here any more. Maybe Rich's music can remind you of your Dad too. Hugs!
Yes, that song and several others from the "Jesus Record" speak to me in a way that no other Christian artist ever has. I am very sorry for what happened to you. No child should ever have to go through that.
This song got me through my own cancer (supposed to be terminal) and the death of my oldest son from cancer a year later. Maybe someday it will all make sense.
This describes my life right now: "Well, sometimes my life just don't make sense at all. When the mountains look so steep, and my faith just seems so small. So hold me, Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf. You have been king of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace?" Beautiful words.
Sometimes it easy to forget how important we are to God's will. For those who don't believe in God, you have no idea what it's like to have God's love, if you did you will find the peace this song brings.
Dear Lord, please guide me in the right direction, i ask for your forgiveness and help...i am going through some very rough times right now and i need you more than ever...please let your light cover me through these times..
Miss you Rich buy I'm happy that you're in the fullness of His Presence. You've left a void that can't be filled but you've left a legacy. Thank you Rich if you were here I'd say thank you for not hardening your hurt but allowing God to mould you. I doubt if there ever will be an artist as honest as you. Thank you Rich for your honesty. I wish you were still alive but God knows best
I just started listening to this song recently on a different page.. I came to You tube to hear it, was surprised and shocked to learn singer was dead. He did an awesome job with song, along with Awesome God. Rest in peace, thank you for leaving us with these great songs.
*I am equating Jesus with God because they are both in the Godhead along with the Holy Spirit. So anything God can do, Jesus can do also. He has the power to raise Himself up from death. My Jesus defies logic, He is amazing and I love Him so much. He is the sweetest person I have ever met.
tameko, better late than never? But if she hadn't have let go like that - his life would've been very different. I believe Rich was a saint in the making here on earth. if you study the lives of the great saints, they suffered immensely for God's greater glory, as well as all human kind. Praise God for the lessons in sufferings and true humility that God used Rich Mullins to teach us all. He wasn't just about music. more important he was about the love of God and God's wonderments of creation.
I've always thought that I was a brave person, but when I am afraid or fearful of what's to come in this uncertain world, this song makes me feel like I can ask such a simple request "Hold me Jesus" and then I know He alone is my protector and my shelter from this storm called life!... Hold me Jesus! I AM shaking like a leaf... Please pray God lets me see my son soon =/thank you and God bless you
Rich always shows me where my heart is. Is it really with the Lord? I don't truly know the answer until I listen to Rich sing out in honor of Jesus. He's able to bring me back down to my knees thru His faithful servant Rich. The heavens sang when Rich arrived, singing as he entered I'm sure! It's Ragamuffin time tonight!

Yes, truly understand the Gospel and I don't understand what has turned someone against God. His word is full of hope and joy. It truly changes a person's heart, if that person wants to be changed. God wouldn't force them to change.
The Likes are winning Rich! We played your song at Phil's Funeral today! HOLD ME JESUS! Rotel! Phil Love, Russellville Arkansas!
This is one of my favorite songs by him, I have heard this song so many times it has helped me so much
Hold me
Jesus, I'm shaking like a leaf
Rich Mullins is one of those men that it is very clear he loved Jesus.I would have liked to have met him. I will when we are with Jesus.
I am feeling this today--I need Jesus to hold me.
I was blessed to be at one of his concerts in Salem, Missouri. What a talented songwriter and musician.
This song got me through my daughter's death when she chose to leave this world.
Pris Platt There cannot be greater hurt than losing a child. I'm so sorry. God bless you.
Pris Platt If it is a comfort to you, God knows very well what it is to lose a child, and the love he had for his son, like the love he has for us, is beyond understanding. I pray you continue to find comfort in Him.

Watching Ragamuffin now, love the song and the movie
really powerful song awsome love all rich mullins music
Like "Blisters on my Heart." Only Jesus can heal...... Thank You Lord.
I'd rather fight you for something I don't really want, than take what you give that I need.... Wow, what a powerful line!
To know to walk in the arms of our lord is where is he is right now, but to leave the true heart of a man of god! thank you for your words that still lead us to his arms
His songs tell the exact same way I feel, only he puts it in words and melody. He saw the struggles of christianity, but he went through them, straight to God.
as my fear grips me I know that God is greater, this song reminds me of that reality
this song always bring tears to my eyes. Times I've felt hopeless and Jesus held me and became my Prince of peace. love love this song
:) daddy cares about you. He's with u he's so so kind he's faithful to u beautiful child to him
Rich's music continues to bring us closer to G-d every time we hear one of his songs.
I had this disc in my truck. I listened to it over and over.
Such a blessed and anointed man. I miss his music, the sounds of my christian youth!
Sending Love ❤️...Nancy..Are you single? ❤️😊
I miss him :( I know he's in a great place
One of the beautiful songs he ever wrote. Thanks for sharing.
There will NEVER be another Rich Mullins
i love all his music hes an awesome christian artist
I miss you Rich. I know you are still singing for Jesus in Heaven
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but this video was shot in Wichita, Kansas at the home of author James Bryan Smith (his books are awesome, BTW!), where Rich lived for a time. He asked Jim if he could make "a few changes" to the attic and Jim and his wife came home one day to find Rich had taken up ALL the carpet, rolled it up and left it on the curb ;-)
This song - wow. Still being used in my life. I am so grateful that we got to have this man on the planet for as long as we did. Love Rich!
He wrote it as a prayer song - and i do find myself praying that almost daily. I love all of Rich's music. It's like it was written today. (truth's like that... timeless)
Gentle baby jesus so glad you have been placed in our hearts thanks.
but you know what, we have our own following of Christian music and we who love the Lord, and love our Christian artist and love each other..
will prevail
Bless u
Idk how I cope sometimes, cause good lord this grips my heart so much!!!
He had such a beautiful heart and voice. So sad that he was taken home so young. Thank you Jesus that he didn't go to Hell, though.
Friends Always ,Kelly Tillery
touching, we all can relate to this song!
I liked it as soon as I heard it in the movie.
He died the month before i was born,i will never forget this song or his music
I love Wichita.
What a lovely memory, musicforever712 - I'm so sorry your Dad isn't here any more. Maybe Rich's music can remind you of your Dad too. Hugs!
Yes, that song and several others from the "Jesus Record" speak to me in a way that no other Christian artist ever has. I am very sorry for what happened to you. No child should ever have to go through that.
I remember Mom playing this on the way to school when I was little!!!
Rich was a gift to us all ~ Miss him so!
So true.
I love you Rich! Your music has touched my heart in a way no other has!!! Oh how I wish I had known you. At least I have your music to listen to.
Jesus I pray that I always find the truth in you and your Father and to always choose you over the lies and wrongdoings of the enemy.
among my greatest songs of all time.together with like Elijah song
This song got me through my own cancer (supposed to be terminal) and the death of my oldest son from cancer a year later. Maybe someday it will all make sense.
This describes my life right now: "Well, sometimes my life just don't make sense at all. When the mountains look so steep, and my faith just seems so small. So hold me, Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf. You have been king of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace?"
Beautiful words.
Beutiful-one of the best inspirational songs I. ever heard.
Touching heaven
Sometimes it easy to forget how important we are to God's will.
For those who don't believe in God, you have no idea what it's like to have God's love, if you did you will find the peace this song brings.
One of the greatest contemporary Christian artists that I know :)
Yes, it was beautiful to hear.........
god bless all the parents out in CT this week
Thank You Jesus, I bless You, I worship You, I adore You, I love you Lord above everyone and everyone. God Bless everyone.
Jesus I love You above everyone and everything, Hold me Jesus, I am shaking like a leave.
this song inspired me to feed my dog for once in the past week
Dear Lord, please guide me in the right direction, i ask for your forgiveness and help...i am going through some very rough times right now and i need you more than ever...please let your light cover me through these times..
what a song that god would lead us all to believe in this love would be enoughf for us all!
I wish you were still alive but God knows best
his music has alot of meannig and feeling to it i love all the music he sings
I just started listening to this song recently on a different page.. I came to You tube
to hear it, was surprised and shocked to learn singer was dead. He did an awesome
job with song, along with Awesome God. Rest in peace, thank you for leaving us
with these great songs.
Another classic, timeless Christian song.
"I am the peace the world cannot give."
Thank you Jesus and thank you Rich for your song.
RIP Ragamuffin.....beautiful song and wonderful life example of the struggles a true believer in Christ goes through in their life.
*I am equating Jesus with God because they are both in the Godhead along with the Holy Spirit. So anything God can do, Jesus can do also. He has the power to raise Himself up from death. My Jesus defies logic, He is amazing and I love Him so much. He is the sweetest person I have ever met.
Yup. This song is my life.
Thank you from a tired battered warrior.
I need Your peace right now Lord. I need to surrender my fears to you. You are in control, not me.
tameko, better late than never? But if she hadn't have let go like that - his life would've been very different. I believe Rich was a saint in the making here on earth. if you study the lives of the great saints, they suffered immensely for God's greater glory, as well as all human kind. Praise God for the lessons in sufferings and true humility that God used Rich Mullins to teach us all. He wasn't just about music. more important he was about the love of God and God's wonderments of creation.
Amen, love what you wrote.
Praise God! God Bless!🎄➕
wonderful song...praise the Lord
I've always thought that I was a brave person, but when I am afraid or fearful of what's to come in this uncertain world, this song makes me feel like I can ask such a simple request "Hold me Jesus" and then I know He alone is my protector and my shelter from this storm called life!... Hold me Jesus! I AM shaking like a leaf... Please pray God lets me see my son soon =/thank you and God bless you
beautifull...i love you Yeshua ...
This song is my comfort in times of trouble...
