Bingo, that's what simulates fog of war from the video game. You don't know what's out there until you explore it. Defintely one of the coolest ways they transferred a mechanic onto a board game.
Magogs do friendly fire - similar to Leeches, Stellas creatures should be hurt when they are adjacent units to the attacked one (if there are more than one adjacent attacker choose who will be hurt)

1:19:26 This is the wrong timing for playing Weakness. You are supposed to use it when a unit is about to attack. The card would have an on-going symbol if it was meant to be cast until it is triggered or to last any longer than the duration of a single attack.
You are right, but will you guys try to find all mistakes or what? I mean, it is useless to do so. Furthermore the mistake was minor and didn't change a single thing.
I realized that they actually play spells the same way the pc games works, so they play spells when there's a friendly unit that activate, that is why they did this.
I loved watching an actual game playthrough. Personally, I would love to see another playthrough with maybe Castle and Tower playing the cooperative mode with the full battle map. It looks just like the video game! I will cross my fingers that you can post a video with one or two of these ideas. Thanks for the great videos so far!
Great content, I loved how you presented the game! Still, some corrections: around 1h 55m, when you fight against that Level VI opponent. a) You forgot the Cerberies special ability (damage an adjacent opponent by 1 damage) and b) after you retreat, you should have returned back to the field where you were before engaging the battle. This (retreating rule) was also applicable in a few cases in the later stages of the game. That also means you cannot go through a field where there is a neutral opponent you can't defeat. Around 2h 10m, if your secondary hero is defeated, you need to remove it from board, but you can recruit it again for 10 golds. In the final battle around 2:25, when you attack with the Gold Dragon, since the Gold Dragon attacks 2 spaces in a line, I think besides the wall, Pack Pit Lords should have been damaged as well with an attack skill of 2. Later, in the final battle Magogs could also have damaged Unicorns when they selected the Gold Dragon as their primary target (as unicorns were an adjacent unit next to the target). And around 2:32 unicorns shouldn't have been able to retaliate the Cerberies, as Cerberies ignore retaliation.
Seriously, I understand why you are saying all of this, but it is useless. These guys are there to show people what a game looks like to actually help people decide if they have to buy it, and you are there trying to point out some insignificant mistakes. This is not a tournament. And you are not the first one here to do this. Anyway, what I mean is that probably you had good intension with this but the reality is that it is not helping anyone.

Really great video, I enjoyed it a lot. But there was some mistakes made, even crucial ones. 1) Stella forgot the long range penalty pretty much every time. 2) Steve (edit: Tarrant) always forgot Elves Pack ability whereyou get a 2nd attack if you roll a -1 or a 0, at one point he had to spend a movement point to extend the combat uncessarily because he forgot about this. 3) Choosing to attack with 2nd hero to protect main one made no sense at all. How was he supposed ot protect it? He should have attacked with the main so he could play with cards, that made potentially a big difference. 4) When you army is wiped out (happened after peasnt wa killed) you get back your starting army for free, something Steve also forgot. That could have mattered quite a bit for the end battle. 5) After main hero lost his grail, starting in home town again, he should have moved it to where he moved the secondary hero. That way he'd always been able to catch up with Stella at any time insteadof having to fight the siege battle. Together with #4, having a bigger army, I think that could have turned the tide.

During the first battle, didn’t Stella need to spend an extra movement token for not defeating the neutral enemies in one round? Edit: my bad, it all happened in one round actually)
@University I think you didn't. You spent one move to leave the castle and enter the field to fight the neutral unit. Another movement point to go to the adjacent field and rolled the die for resources, and then you spent the last movement to go back to the castle (19:50). You should have spent a second movement in the fight, and your last move would have been going to the field for the resources (at least this is how I understood the rules, that I learned watching your rules video :D )
2:12:10 Rulebook - page 11 - secondary hero - gains no experience and has 2 BP. Designers-Commentary - page 4 - What if I can roll a treasure die thanks to an event of my secondary hero and I drop ? A secondary hero cannot gain experience, so he ignores this effect. If your secondary gets cards or raw materials, you get them normally. You just ignore the result . Two questions: Ammo cart card. Is that an always effect then? It's always active? And second question: That peasent minion card. How do you use his effect exactly? Is it something you do outside of combat, every round? So bascially 3gold every round as long as he doesn't die in combat? Thanks!
Yes, when you play the ammo cart card, it stays on your board permenently, because it is a permanent card :P so the effect stays there. It is the same thing for all permanent card, but it is only one at a time. If you play another permanent card, the first one is discarted and go into your discard pile. Then for the peasant, yes, the effect gives you gold at each ressource round as long as you have the unit. Keep in mind that you are not forced to play battles with the peasant, actually you should never battle with him and let it on your side to keep him alive to have the bonus in gold at each ressource round :P

In first Stellas combat i think she had to spend another movement point to fight another round of combat, and in first Tarrants combat you should roll 2 dices on elves attack and resolve lower one, since you shoot from backline to backline so you get "combat penalty"... Please confirm this I wanna know... Ill keep watching the rest of the video now =)
Ok did I misunderstood something or did they get it wrong? When Stella retreated in the end against a level 5 encounter she should automatically return to the spot she was before. She shouldnt be able to get to Tarrant
I have a question about neutral unit of the faction, should I put all of them into the neutral unit deck or only the unit from the "band" we don't gonna play?, and also other question on the base game 2 heroes have the same initial ability card on ther cardboard, but the game only inclided 2 copies of this ability, what can i do if 2 player want to play with both heroes?

No, it is the board that is the battlefield expansion. It introduces a new battleboard that is more similar to the pc game. You can play normal games with it or a new type of game that is shorter. Keep in mind that the balance is modified with that other board though (neutrals are weaker on it). So you need to play at a higher difficulty.
This was so fun! I thoroughly enjoyed watching and will definitely know more of what to expect when I play with my Grail Pledge. Will definitely have to get Inferno, Stronghold, and Conflux at some point when all three are available. Does anyone know if these will be available in the states eventually or will it be another six month delay shipping from Poland again?
Great video! Thanks for your work! Can you discard any number of cards from your hand during your turn to your discard pile and draw that many cards back to your hand? I understood it is only moral action and you need to spend a moral token. It sound a bit weird atleast since necromancer (ignoring moral) can draw two cards from m&m deck and discard same amount.
I'm not sure to understand your question. Right at the beginning of your turn, but only there, you can discard any number of cards in your hand to draw cards to your hand limit. There's of course, many other ways to draw cards and discard cards during a turn using cards effects. Is there something else that you want to know?
The game is made like that. You need to manage your ressources :/. Although, you can add an house rule to give you gold at the astrology rounds :) like 5-10 gold in bonus.
I know this game has campaigns, but can you play a 2 player clash against yourself? Trying to beat yourself with always picking the best option in battles?
I don't think you are the only one, but from what I have seen, people like it. And there's the battlefield expansion if you want combats that look similar to the pc game.
Anyone know how the Pandora's Box resolves? During my playthrough, I wasn't sure after my roommate beat the neutral units guarding it what the "2Treasure/2Resource->1 meant".

That rule only applies to co-op and campaign unit setup. In player vs player scenarios, the enemy player who controls the neutrals determines their placement, but ranged units must be placed into the back row.

It clearly states as you say "In a Clash mode or an Alliance mode, the player who completed their turn last is the player who freely deploys and commands the Neutral units during a Combat. So, the beneath deployment rules are only the reference, not the obligation for them."
@@patrick-gz5erYou do not use your deck with your secondary hero, so it is bassicly only a vessel for exploration and can use your army, but not your cards 😊 he/she only has 2 movements points instead of 3. Although, if you are a big hardcore player and you make a big big custom map, it would be possible to control two full heros with their own deck and stuff.
Correct me if Im wrong but I think first round played by Stella was done incorrectly when it comes to movement points. It is 1 move point to move from castle to mines. 1 move point to explore location that you are standing on (triggering a battle) 1 move point to extend the fight cause it was not won in first round. That sums up to 3 points meaning her turn should be over after her battle. Maybe you correct this later in video but Im only 25 min in. Great content anyways! Your initial tutorial were great. Much better than going through 40 pages of instruction.
What? The first round played by stella was totally fine. It is 1 movement point to go to the mine and it triggered the combat imediately. You do not need to spend one additional movement point for this. The case when you need to spend a movement point is when you are already on an emplacement that you want to visit again, on a revisitable point of interest for example. Then the first battle was won in one turn. Are you sure you are talking about the first round?

One question about the combat at 1:35:20 : Wouldn't the Pegasi play before the Cantaurs as they are Silver Units? I thought I heard that when it comes to initiative, when two units of a same army have to play and share the same initiative, then the Rarity dictates which one plays first? That might have been removed in the final rulebook though, as I see that battle prep also changed (for the better) but I'm curious.
I don't know what was the rule before, but in the final rulebook you actually choose which one go first. Then if the oponent have one with the same, it activates and then your second creature with the same initiative.

Can it be played 3 or 4 players, both are claimed. What is correct? Is it possible to play 4 players and if yes do I just need the normal game or also some expansions? Which expansions are recommended? I am looking forward to play the board game I have played the computer game for 25 years.
Yes you can play at 3 or 4. There's scenarios in the booklet for this. Or you can made tour own scenarios. I really recommand you to take ALL expansions if you are a fan of the PC game. The bare minimum is base game plus tower (very minimum). Be prepared though, it is the same as pc games, the games are very long. For a 4 players game, depending of many factors, it is between 8-15 hours of playtime.
@@SteenbergOldies yes it is very wrong :P for new players, first game will be very very long. Then, it will greatly depends of the difficulty you are playing, the more difficult, the more ennemies you will fight during combats, and combat is basically what makes long games. If you take the example of them playing this game on the video, they know the game, they even know this map because they tested it before the video and they play at easy. And it last 2 and a half hours (without the time to set up). So, to be fair it is more like 1h30-3h00 PER PLAYER of play time.
I missed the absolute best kickstarter ever created and now I feel sad. I ordered at least a base game from our local games store, but that is not enough. I want all castles, proper battlefield tiles, figurines for all castles :(

Together with your 10 rule series it was quite a work, wasnt it ?And you have to understand it all yourself. It looks like you like it ! I am a huge fan of the evergreen Heroes 3, play it at least one time in the year one basic or addon. i discovered it just last week at a website of a shop who advertises for preorders of the retail version. After i took a look at the photos and saw that it was really the graphics of Heroes 3, i was totally enthusiastic. But that did not keep long. Though i am still happy that this game exist, i will make a remake if it. I will tell you why. Soon i noticed, that a lot is missing. No ocean with ships and wreckages, no subterrain, only one charactersheet (or 2 in addons), cities under 50% of content, misses like market place and resource silo, no advanced unit generators and advanced units ! No wood, sulfur, mercury, gem resources and mines, treasures, spells and skills not only thrown into one deck to draw a lilltle cards from, but additionally total mismatched content, and so on. Reading the rules at Archon downloads was a horror of " Oh No ! " The game could have been done so much better. It looks like the developers feared Heroes 3 , they cutted and misses as much as they can. making it small and short in time. really nothing is original. That is the wrong way, because Heroes 3 gamers are used to very long game sessions. I guess many of them will be disappointed like me. So this is my critics. There is more, but thats enough. You dont need to adapt the critics, especially if you are no Heroes 3 gamer. But i am. To me it is not a game like any other. Not one for two weeks, then going to the next one. It should have been as great as the pc game. but it is just a copy of mage knight with a seductive title. Goodbye and have fun.

Will for SURE pick up this board game. Grew up with HoMM as a young lad. Sitting infornt of my ol computer back in 1997, having view towards the nearest mountain. Daydreaming about green and yellow dragons living in the caves dotting the mountain side😆 Very happy that it seems you will add faction specific mini packs down the line. And most of all I hope you add Armageddons Blade expansion after that. LOVED the extra dragons it brought. blue Azure dragons, orange Rust dragons, Purple faerie dragons and the crazy red crystal construct dragons!
I bet you are the same that asked the same thing on gamefound 😂 and I answered you that these dragons are already in the game .... The content lf armagedon blade is already in the game or will be added in the next 3 expansions that is coming soon.

I bought it and the expansions is what really opens up the game to features that make it worthwhile. The battlefield one gives you the traditional HOMM3 fighting map instead of the card board. Base game works but you’ll want the others, at least battlefield.
This game would be fun for anyone, but is mostly for hard core fans of a 25 year old video game. If we've lasted this long, we're going to buy every bit of every expansion and be happy to figure out a complex rulebook. But it's understandable for anyone who doesn't want to commit financially or put in the time. But I'm here for every penny and every second. 😂
Thanks for the video. I find it impresssive that it seems that you played a game with (mostly I guess) random dice rolls and card draws and still managed to show a diverse and representative example of a heroes game. It felt quite natural and unscripted, yet still well organized and informative : )

Yeah this one is not clear at all in the rulebook. They confirmed latter on that you have to chose.

At the first battle (13:32 ) it’s a neutral meele unit in the last row- I thought only ranged units are positioned in the last rows when the fights starts ?!
During the first battle, didn’t Stella need to spend an extra movement token for not defeating the neutral enemies in one round? Edit: my bad, it all happened in one round actually)

@University I think you didn't. You spent one move to leave the castle and enter the field to fight the neutral unit. Another movement point to go to the adjacent field and rolled the die for resources, and then you spent the last movement to go back to the castle (19:50). You should have spent a second movement in the fight, and your last move would have been going to the field for the resources (at least this is how I understood the rules, that I learned watching your rules video :D )

Two questions: Ammo cart card. Is that an always effect then? It's always active? And second question: That peasent minion card. How do you use his effect exactly? Is it something you do outside of combat, every round? So bascially 3gold every round as long as he doesn't die in combat? Thanks!
Yes, when you play the ammo cart card, it stays on your board permenently, because it is a permanent card :P so the effect stays there. It is the same thing for all permanent card, but it is only one at a time. If you play another permanent card, the first one is discarted and go into your discard pile. Then for the peasant, yes, the effect gives you gold at each ressource round as long as you have the unit. Keep in mind that you are not forced to play battles with the peasant, actually you should never battle with him and let it on your side to keep him alive to have the bonus in gold at each ressource round :P

In first Stellas combat i think she had to spend another movement point to fight another round of combat, and in first Tarrants combat you should roll 2 dices on elves attack and resolve lower one, since you shoot from backline to backline so you get "combat penalty"... Please confirm this I wanna know... Ill keep watching the rest of the video now =)

I have a question about neutral unit of the faction, should I put all of them into the neutral unit deck or only the unit from the "band" we don't gonna play?, and also other question on the base game 2 heroes have the same initial ability card on ther cardboard, but the game only inclided 2 copies of this ability, what can i do if 2 player want to play with both heroes?
Yes you put them in the neutrals deck. Each player take the ability card, that it :P

I watched another video with a different combat board that looked more like the game. can anyone explain? is it based on scenario?
No, it is the board that is the battlefield expansion. It introduces a new battleboard that is more similar to the pc game. You can play normal games with it or a new type of game that is shorter. Keep in mind that the balance is modified with that other board though (neutrals are weaker on it). So you need to play at a higher difficulty.

This was so fun! I thoroughly enjoyed watching and will definitely know more of what to expect when I play with my Grail Pledge. Will definitely have to get Inferno, Stronghold, and Conflux at some point when all three are available. Does anyone know if these will be available in the states eventually or will it be another six month delay shipping from Poland again?

Great video! Thanks for your work! Can you discard any number of cards from your hand during your turn to your discard pile and draw that many cards back to your hand? I understood it is only moral action and you need to spend a moral token. It sound a bit weird atleast since necromancer (ignoring moral) can draw two cards from m&m deck and discard same amount.
I'm not sure to understand your question. Right at the beginning of your turn, but only there, you can discard any number of cards in your hand to draw cards to your hand limit. There's of course, many other ways to draw cards and discard cards during a turn using cards effects. Is there something else that you want to know?

The game is made like that. You need to manage your ressources :/. Although, you can add an house rule to give you gold at the astrology rounds :) like 5-10 gold in bonus.

I don't think you are the only one, but from what I have seen, people like it. And there's the battlefield expansion if you want combats that look similar to the pc game.

Anyone know how the Pandora's Box resolves? During my playthrough, I wasn't sure after my roommate beat the neutral units guarding it what the "2Treasure/2Resource->1 meant".
You choose to roll 2 treasure OR 2 ressouces. And you choose one of the result.

yep. But there exist quit some units that have somewhat spell resistance.
13:32 I think Rouges here should be placed in second row as manual states "Place any Ground and/or Flying units along the
second row of the Combat board..."
That rule only applies to co-op and campaign unit setup. In player vs player scenarios, the enemy player who controls the neutrals determines their placement, but ranged units must be placed into the back row.

@@patrick-gz5erYou do not use your deck with your secondary hero, so it is bassicly only a vessel for exploration and can use your army, but not your cards 😊 he/she only has 2 movements points instead of 3. Although, if you are a big hardcore player and you make a big big custom map, it would be possible to control two full heros with their own deck and stuff.

Correct me if Im wrong but I think first round played by Stella was done incorrectly when it comes to movement points.
It is 1 move point to move from castle to mines.
1 move point to explore location that you are standing on (triggering a battle)
1 move point to extend the fight cause it was not won in first round.
That sums up to 3 points meaning her turn should be over after her battle.
Maybe you correct this later in video but Im only 25 min in. Great content anyways! Your initial tutorial were great. Much better than going through 40 pages of instruction.

What? The first round played by stella was totally fine. It is 1 movement point to go to the mine and it triggered the combat imediately. You do not need to spend one additional movement point for this. The case when you need to spend a movement point is when you are already on an emplacement that you want to visit again, on a revisitable point of interest for example. Then the first battle was won in one turn. Are you sure you are talking about the first round?

One question about the combat at 1:35:20 : Wouldn't the Pegasi play before the Cantaurs as they are Silver Units? I thought I heard that when it comes to initiative, when two units of a same army have to play and share the same initiative, then the Rarity dictates which one plays first?
That might have been removed in the final rulebook though, as I see that battle prep also changed (for the better) but I'm curious.
I don't know what was the rule before, but in the final rulebook you actually choose which one go first. Then if the oponent have one with the same, it activates and then your second creature with the same initiative.

12:04 shouldn't you have spent 1 MP for exploring the mine (starting the battle) and then another 1 for continuing the battle, since you couldn't defeat the neutral in one round? and after the end of the battle, you are left with 0 MP and not 2, or am I wrong?
Can it be played 3 or 4 players, both are claimed. What is correct? Is it possible to play 4 players and if yes do I just need the normal game or also some expansions? Which expansions are recommended? I am looking forward to play the board game I have played the computer game for 25 years.
Yes you can play at 3 or 4. There's scenarios in the booklet for this. Or you can made tour own scenarios. I really recommand you to take ALL expansions if you are a fan of the PC game. The bare minimum is base game plus tower (very minimum). Be prepared though, it is the same as pc games, the games are very long. For a 4 players game, depending of many factors, it is between 8-15 hours of playtime.

@@SteenbergOldies yes it is very wrong :P for new players, first game will be very very long. Then, it will greatly depends of the difficulty you are playing, the more difficult, the more ennemies you will fight during combats, and combat is basically what makes long games. If you take the example of them playing this game on the video, they know the game, they even know this map because they tested it before the video and they play at easy. And it last 2 and a half hours (without the time to set up). So, to be fair it is more like 1h30-3h00 PER PLAYER of play time.

I am a huge fan of the evergreen Heroes 3, play it at least one time in the year one basic or addon.
i discovered it just last week at a website of a shop who advertises for preorders of the retail version. After i took a look at the photos and saw that it was really the graphics of Heroes 3, i was totally enthusiastic.
But that did not keep long. Though i am still happy that this game exist, i will make a remake if it. I will tell you why.
Soon i noticed, that a lot is missing. No ocean with ships and wreckages, no subterrain, only one charactersheet (or 2 in addons), cities under 50% of content, misses like market place and resource silo, no advanced unit generators and advanced units ! No wood, sulfur, mercury, gem resources and mines, treasures, spells and skills not only thrown into one deck to draw a lilltle cards from, but additionally total mismatched content, and so on. Reading the rules at Archon downloads was a horror of " Oh No ! "
The game could have been done so much better. It looks like the developers feared Heroes 3 , they cutted and misses as much as they can. making it small and short in time. really nothing is original. That is the wrong way, because Heroes 3 gamers are used to very long game sessions. I guess many of them will be disappointed like me.
So this is my critics. There is more, but thats enough. You dont need to adapt the critics, especially if you are no Heroes 3 gamer. But i am. To me it is not a game like any other. Not one for two weeks, then going to the next one. It should have been as great as the pc game. but it is just a copy of mage knight with a seductive title. Goodbye and have fun.

Until the end of the attack (or defense) only. There's some exeptions but it is said on the card :)

Will for SURE pick up this board game. Grew up with HoMM as a young lad. Sitting infornt of my ol computer back in 1997, having view towards the nearest mountain. Daydreaming about green and yellow dragons living in the caves dotting the mountain side😆 Very happy that it seems you will add faction specific mini packs down the line. And most of all I hope you add Armageddons Blade expansion after that. LOVED the extra dragons it brought. blue Azure dragons, orange Rust dragons, Purple faerie dragons and the crazy red crystal construct dragons!

seeing all those expansions in just the first 2 minutes convinced me not to buy the game lol
I bought it and the expansions is what really opens up the game to features that make it worthwhile. The battlefield one gives you the traditional HOMM3 fighting map instead of the card board.
Base game works but you’ll want the others, at least battlefield.

This game would be fun for anyone, but is mostly for hard core fans of a 25 year old video game. If we've lasted this long, we're going to buy every bit of every expansion and be happy to figure out a complex rulebook. But it's understandable for anyone who doesn't want to commit financially or put in the time. But I'm here for every penny and every second. 😂
Thanks for the video. I find it impresssive that it seems that you played a game with (mostly I guess) random dice rolls and card draws and still managed to show a diverse and representative example of a heroes game. It felt quite natural and unscripted, yet still well organized and informative : )
