I am a citizen and taxpayer of China's "farmer identity" (under the Chinese identity politics and household registration system, farmers are considered the lowest end of the population). After Professor Qin Hui's enlightenment and awakening, I fully agree with his viewpoint that in the current context of globalization, China and the West are not facing a clash of civilizations, but rather China's authoritarian system is challenging Western democratic constitutional systems (which means that bad currency is likely to drive out good currency). Democratic countries all over the world must have a deep understanding of the bigger and more real dark side behind China's prosperity as the world's second largest economy: after the CCP seized power in the violent revolution in 1949, hundreds of millions of Chinese farmers began to work hard to pay public grain, agricultural taxes, and voluntary labor (afforestation, construction of water conservancy...), which provided the CCP with financial primitive accumulation at the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, But farmers are restricted by the household registration system in rural areas without freedom, human rights, and welfare protection, living as serfs. From 1959 to 1961, there were no natural disasters at all. It was entirely due to Mao Zedong's personal policies that the tragic starvation of 40 million farmers in human history occurred, and my grandmother was one of them. After China's reform and opening up in 1980, the first generation of farmers were allowed to work as "farmer status" workers in cities (such as construction workers, cleaners, miners...). After China's accession to the WTO, the second generation of farmers continued to work as "farmer status" workers in red sweatshops, manufacturing cheap goods for the world. Due to the institutional discrimination of "rural household registration" and the lack of independent trade unions to fight for fair welfare protection for them, Rural household registration cannot enjoy the welfare benefits of urban household registration, such as work-related injuries, unemployment, medical care, elderly care, housing, and children's education. Farmers' children are forced to return to rural areas for education, leading to the tragic situation of the world's largest rural left behind children and widowed elderly in China. Nowadays, the first generation of farmers have become old and lose their ability to work. They are ruthlessly driven back to the countryside and struggle to make ends meet with a monthly pension of over 100 yuan. The minimum standard for urban household registration is over 2000 yuan per month, which is more than 20 times that of rural household registration. Communist Party officials enjoy privileges and benefits, and the annual medical and health expenses are as high as several million yuan. National level officials spend one billion yuan on tourism in a year. It is the enormous sacrifices and contributions of these two generations of Chinese farmers that have made China the world's second-largest economy. However, the zero welfare of Chinese farmers has been repeatedly exploited and turned into negative welfare during the first and second redistribution of national wealth, while the welfare of Communist Party officials has been repeatedly raised to privileged high welfare. The CCP uses these "advantages" of cheap labor with "peasant identity", "low human rights" and "negative welfare" to attract a large amount of investment from international financial capital. The production of cheap goods competes unfairly in the global trade market, resulting in a trade deficit between the United States and the European Union with China. Don't think that the "low human rights" and "negative welfare" of hundreds of millions of Chinese farmers are not related to democratic countries, because in the context of globalization, capital can freely flow to China's "low human rights" and "low welfare" labor market, which has now affected the unemployment rate and welfare protection of workers in democratic countries (such as left-wing political parties in the United States starting to propose policies to reduce welfare protection), If the human rights and welfare of Chinese "peasant identity" workers cannot gradually improve to align with those of democratic countries, then the human rights and welfare of democratic country workers can only gradually decrease to align with Chinese "peasant identity" workers (as can be seen from the documentary "American Factory"). Democratic countries around the world cannot turn a blind eye to the history of Chinese farmers and "peasant identity" workers after enjoying nearly 40 years of cheap goods and economic benefits made in China. Please stop having illusions about the CCP and implement appeasement policies. While paying attention to human rights in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong, we should pay more attention to the "low human rights" and "negative welfare" situation of hundreds of millions of Chinese farmers. Democratic countries should unite to constantly exert pressure and urge the CCP to improve the human rights of all Chinese people and the welfare protection of vulnerable groups of farmers, enlighten Chinese citizens and taxpayers' awareness of rights, assist Chinese people to establish trade unions and farmers' associations, learn from the strategy of Poland Solidarity Trade Union and the Communist Party's game, constantly carry out welfare accountability, force financial disclosure and budget transparency, and finally let China gradually embark on the path of constitutional democracy. The importance of a free and democratic China to the world is self-evident, and it is also a responsibility that democratic countries around the world cannot evade, because we are all citizens of the Earth. I hope that people with conscience around the world can work together to make constitutional democracy overcome dictatorship, to make good currency overcome bad , and to further advance civilization around the world.
The government's power and responsibility should also be great, with corresponding rights and responsibilities, accountability for welfare, and the ability to save oneself. Hallelujah - Qin Hui

Well written, everything correct and well reasoned. Here is no different instead of a peasant/farm worker its minimum wage workers, we also form an upper class and lower class. The wealthier side, the upper class just starts putting More and more weight pushing down on the rest of us. And while the poor grow in number the rich shrink in number as they compete to be the last wealthy one left and then one day you are ruled over 1 person no matter how good or bad, no choice.

May I also remind you the fact that our Native American population in our motherland, the Continent of America before the European Colonizers arrived, was around 15 millions, while the European population in their motherland, the Continent of Europe was around 25 millions.
Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION! A shockingly sad truth. 😔
In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people.. Notorious global cardinal crimes the Christian West has committed, and benefited a great deals, such as Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is notorious Colonization still lingering on, may I ask? 😔

I'm not saying every single person who practices Falun Gong is bad (just like not all Christians or Muslims are bad), but please do your own research about the Falun Gong before coming to conclusions based solely on this documentary or my own words.

I think it's great that they covered it (a bit long but whatever), I just wish there was more of an even-handed understanding of what they do and are involved with these days. Listening only to this makes it seem like they're the best thing ever, almost like...propaganda itself, heh. Such is the problem with media consumption, especially if people don't do their own research, which I have a funny feeling many don't.
For some (conspiratorial and/or conservative Trump types or lost/confused "New Agers", perhaps), they would like them. Others (myself included), want none of that nonsense.
I did some cursory research on the dude behind the film "Eternal Spring", Jason Loftus, (just bummed out I couldn't get behind a Wall Street Journal paywall to read the op-ed he mentions during the interview portion entitled "WeChat Threatens Free Speech", which I can guess what his feelings are there), and I couldn't find any obvious ties to questionable ethics. So at least he seems as clear as any.

I am not at all for the CCP. I hate authoritarian styles of government. And I don't agree in the least with how the CCP treats Falun Gong practitioners. But I looked into Falun Gong some years ago and concluded that it is actually a cult, a pretty weird one, with lots of absurd beliefs. Just read some of its leader's writings. It isn't Buddhism in any traditional sense, even if it borrows some things from Buddhism. Just because Falun Gong members are persecuted (they are) doesn't mean that Falun Gong is good. In my opinion, both the CCP and Falun Gong are problematic power hierarchies.

Interesting how I can apply this to the trans-persecution by the evangelical and conservative right in the US and UK right now, though the irony is that this story is the political inverse. It's the socialist left (CCP) persecuting the evangelical conservative right (Falun Gong).
As an anarcho-commie, I think it's not about left vs right, but authoritarian vs democratic (vs anarchic?). I may disagree with literally every philosophy a Falun Gong member holds when it comes to politics since the religion promotes ultra-conservative literally alt-right views, but I empathize cause I feel like trans people in states dominated by the Republican party are in the same boat, the conservative vision ultimately realized by the anticipated "Project 2025" and the unchecked power it grants to the Republican party alone.
I guess, point being: any govt that weaponizes legislation or utilizes police force in a culture/morality war against or to punish their ideological enemy for merely existing is in the wrong. Unfortunately... govts can slowly slip into authoritarianism whether liberal, conservative, capitalist, socialist, feudalist, monarchical, theocratic, etc. and state-sponsored political-propaganda and cultural brainwashing through the media are usually a lot easier when power is ultra-centralized in the hands of one political party. Also just a clarification that anarchISM is not anarchY. Anarchism is the lack of rulers, not the lack of rules.🤙

When the people "in charge" hate information being shared, and do everything in their power to quench a movement, there won't be video or audio evidence available. They will ensure that. As the video says, killing was utilised to further suppress. This format is therefore a good way to recreate what happened. First-hand experience, coupled with an explanation. It's not propaganda. There are too many people who corroborate that this is how that government works.

the problem with seeing this sort of things from the western point of view is that anything concerned with chinese ploitics would be easily categorized into two opposite extremes, just because they did something against the party doesn't mean they are not trash, nor does that change the fact that they are in a cult. And also, the art sucks, it's the typical type of examination-oriented-art-education style art, which is ironic, for he made art in a brainwashed-by-the-party kind of style(which means a major lack of creativity or originality) to sing antipathy against the party, it's almost like some sort of oedipus complex bs.

When the producer said that being different is bad in China, it reminded me of the Kris Wu case. Although he was born and spent much of his life in China, as he has a Canadian passport, he is not treated as Chinese. For this reason, to this day he has not had a fair trial for his actions, China only releases the verdict and ignores several mistakes made by the police. There is nothing worse than having a partial judgment, being silenced and not being able to present your versions of the fact. This is not justice. This is persecution.

He was subsequently fined $64 million dollars for tax evasion.
