That issue has been almost mind blowing to me. With both crews already there, you would think they would work some sort of deal out. It's basically free advertising, maybe not of their production, but of the on track product. Especially towards casual fans that may have picked one over the other and don't know what they're missing on the other side.

Blame the awful dirt and track management at a large number of Texas tracks. The same reason XR no longer works with SMI, because they refused to work with Texas until they put new dirt in. When Texas can provide a Texas worthy dirt track you’ll see it.

We’ll see how the WoO does here next weekend when the late models visit Boothill Speedway (LA) and Rocket Raceway Park (TX). Both tracks host the Comp Cams series and always put on exciting shows. BP32 races at Boothill early this year with the Comp series and dominated, so should be a good showing for him there again.

Many years back, I remember hearing chatter about what it would take for a promoter out west (specifically at USA Raceway in Tucson, Az) to put on an event with one of the “National” touring SLM series. He had it down to how many people would have to come and how much each would have to spend on concessions to make it work. He said it would be a huge gamble. There’s never been a lot of SLM fans out west. (Just us diehards!)
*Edit: Because of Flo Racing, it’s my belief SLM is becoming more popular. I have friends that never went to (or would think about going to) a SLM race and now are big fans of the class, because of Flo.

Late models in California pretty much died during the Great Recession, and the demise of Chris Kearns’ Western All Stars series.. there would be 60 late models at Bakersfield for a W.A.S. show in ‘07 with the support of some Oregon and Arizona racers.. those were awesome times…

The west coast is more than just California, where LM's are basically dead at least weekly. In Oregon we have several tracks that run LM's on a regular basis, Willamette, Cottage Grove, Southern Oregon, Coos Bay & Madras all have regular programs. The Coors Light I-5 series is making a come back as a traveling series as well. It would be cool to see a big national tour but I'd rather get our local counts up & then the regional traveling series more robust.

There used to be a bunch of tracks running late models out here. Willamette Speedway would draw the biggest weekly car counts of any track in the country in the 90’s, and California was a real hot bed as well. But no more, as only a few tracks run late models with very small car counts the norm. So Lucas or WoO coming out west is a complete non-starter.

I can confirm that if an area or track has a preference to a certain type of car, most of the people won't come out and support a event that isn't what their familiar with. Take Fairbury Speedway for example. The community is mostly late model and modified fans. When the world of outlaws tried to bring sprint cars to the track, the fans just did not show up. Even with some good racing put on, they could never bring in a halfway decent crowd. I know that the races were in the middle of the week but Jacksonville Speedway doesn't seem to have that issue. When the world of outlaws went their this year for a Wednesday show, they had their largest crowd in the history of the track.

It started the week after the “World Finals” in Charlotte. My question is do you have any idea how successful that was as far as spectator turnout? I’m from just of you in NC, and I follow those series via Mandee Pauch’s Dirt Track Untold channel, but I’m sure I’m a minority being in SLM country! At 64, I’ve been around Carolina’s racing since 1970, and I remember a time when sprint cars, midgets etc. were nowhere to be seen. Now they have a pretty big presence in the area. I guess anything’s possible, but SLM’s & Cali sounds like a long shot!

Happen to strike up a conversation walking in with the track chaplain(nice guy)who was asking me very specific interesting questions about LM(I had no idea this is 100% Sprint car territory). It was very obvious based on his questions was this is absolutely the wrong track for this event. Then I walk in…first reaction is Impressive facility but then I see the track and the high earthen berm on the bottom….oh no….do the track prep guys know LM have a low nose on the ground and often run the very bottom of the track?? How does the track not realize LM don’t ride the berm like an open wheel Sprint car. Well the feature sucked because it was a one groove track bc the low line was completely taken alway bc the nose of the car would plow the berm and upset the car.
