Back in 1999 a late model racer local to me that my Dad knew named Mark Martin "The Baxter Bullet" went and bought a Billy Moyer GVS/Mastersbuilt still lettered and numbered like Billy's car was in 1998. On the way home to Baxter Tennessee they decided to stop by at Cleveland Speedway for night one of a two night show to get a few laps where all they did was hot lap and qualify on night 1 of the show. Well he ended up breaking the track record and setting on the pole but he had never planned on staying overnight so they came on home that night. He could've made it back the next day but he decided to go race at our local track instead. He was a pretty wild dude and known as a local racing legend. R.I.P.

Being from NY and following big blocks my whole life, especially being at the 200 saturday, I dont blame Williamson at all. Big Block series (specifically STSS) are starting to bounce checks because an owner can't quite make ends meet the right way, and with the complete hell hole it is with chassis's, suspensions, engine rules, its not worth wasting your time fighting for a small sliver of payment when you can let the same guys win the big races, and go beat smaller teams and get almost the same amount.

Modifieds are at a weird and fucked up spot. Between panhard rules and other little details if your a regional weekend warrior you need 3 or 4 rolling chassis just to run regularly in PA / NY / NJ. The cars are far from cheap and they absolutely chew up parts. Engines are still spec 358 or the big blocks / big inch small blocks that easily touch super late model or 410 sprint costs but it doesn't pay or draw a crowd the same way the other 2 do. So no doubt winning 10k and making 9k sounds like a better night than having to get 4th in to even break even against the big boys regardless of your opinion on "puppykicking"

Williamson mostly campaigns his own #6 car in the Small Block 358 Modified events, not Big Block races. Now I won't get into heavy details because I'm not looking to be sued by anyone, but let's just say that there's some financial issues that have arisen with STSS lately and called in to question whether or not the series is good for the checks they write at the pay window. I've seen articles saying that those issues are/have been resolved, and I've seen other sources say it's an on-going concern. That could also play into the team's decision at a race claiming to pay $53,000 to the winner alone. That being said, His hotlap session wasn't just for attendance purposes, he was also awarded minimum show up points towards the championship.

Dollar for dollar, we're racing for less money today than we ran for 20,30,40 years ago. That's why when H/L or the Outlaws come to town, we stay home. If you add up what driver and crew (as locals) would pay to get in to the event and race, the sanctioning body made money on us given where we would generally finish. It's just not worth it. We just run local shows to have our fun and try to break even at the end of the night.

Anyone who spells their name Mat with one T you can't trust so let's just remember that. Williamson is a turd and would've probably finished out of the top 10 anyway so no real loss. Hopefully Corey Day can get in position for this charter since he's going Nascar racing soon.

“The final big sprint car and open wheel race,” perhaps poor wording on your part but, Williams Grove’s National Open is 3 weeks away.

@@DIRTRACKRit’s the way you worded it. Ik predicate and subject is difficult for people to understand. However, if you’re trying to be a media source, then you should speak properly. You stated, and I quote, “the last big sprint car and open wheel race is this weekend at Eldora.” You should have stated “Eldora’s final big sprint car race of this season is the weekend,” or “this weekend is eldora’s last big sprint car race of the season.” Wording is everything brotha.

Not at all. After five years, I'm used to having every tiny detail of my shows picked apart. But when you've done nearly 1200 of these videos, you aren't going to get it right all the time. I work my ass off every day to create engaging content and provide good info and cool stories, but sometimes there are going to be mistakes. And I know that when I do make a small error, I'm going to hear about it, as your comment proves. I wrote almost 2000 words today, and I made an error in where I placed a handful of them. It is what it is. I guess I'll try and do better tomorrow, as always.

I suspect the axle broke. They have very short life these days. And when they break very jagged parts.
There needs to be a LOT more control on all these ultralight parts as they are all potentially dangerous.
The US however does not have a national body to make and enforce rules. Yet America keeps bleating how safe the drivers are. Not when components fail or by far the bigger fail downright dangerous tracks. No walls. part of a wall. Tracks like where Carly Holmes [Tanners sister] got severely injured with no fence leading into creek!!
Go look at Aussie tracks,, the worst are still far better than most US tracks. Most US tracks would never get a track licence
