    Great video! I like how you emphasized the purpose of the zapper and how this game utilizes it well where others might not. I love this game so seeing it get more positive attention is always nice, I find whenever it's brought up most people just kind of scoff at it like "oh that's not a real zelda game it's not worth my time" without giving it a chance

  • @Radien
    @Radien 4 года назад +13

    Link's Crossbow Training came really close to being something I would have played a lot of. I even have the actual Wii Crossbow variant of the Wii Zapper accessory.
    The problem is the scoring. It goes up *exponentially* as the combo continues.
    The problem with that?... Well, what's important isn't so much how often you hit, but *WHEN* you *MISS.*
    Combos are the only way to score high. Therefore, if you miss *twenty* times at the *end* of round (or the beginning), your score may be 10x or even 100x higher than it would have been if you had missed *once* in the middle of the round.
    And here's the kicker: there's an unavoidable rapid-fire power-up that basically turns your crossbow into a freakin' machine gun when you're doing well. That makes it *extremely* difficult to maintain a combo in what amounts to a sniper-style scoring system.
    I LOVED the use of existing Twilight Princess assets, but the gameplay has no lasting appeal thanks to the scoring. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Then I found mods for one-handed crossbows a regular crossbow that i used like a rifle & two other modded in auto crossbow one being a kinda slow firing semi-auto and the other being a 3 round burst both being steam powered and deadly af.
    So i was running around skyrim basically looking like blonde form the dollars trilogy pelting everything with bolts and it was glorious I should set that up again and get a Link outfit going.

    Hey, thanks for making this an actual video. It makes me really curious toward your opinions on other rail shooters and the genre as a whole - not many people really acknowledge Sin & Punishment 2 as anything more than a novelty, and seeing this as a proof of concept for not only the Zapper, but an evolution of the Rail Shooter genre is quite interesting. It's weird novelties like this and Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and Punch Out with balance board support and Super Paper Mario that make the Wii not necessarily "good", but really fascinating, and you capture that spirit of its intrigue and accessibility really well.
    Now do Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love you coward.

    Also, a comment on your closing comments. Remember, video games will not go from controllers controlling a console hooked to the TV to perfect virtual reality without some in-between steps. The Wii's motion control was one of those important steps. So when the day comes you have that perfect virtual reality, thank the Wii

    When I still played my Wii, I had one game out of several -- Little King's Story -- that didn't use motion or pointer controls at all. It ended up being my go-to Wii game when something made it decide my pointer was in two places at once, a few inches apart. Contrast with so many other Wii games, which become unplayable to different degrees when the sensing breaks down.
    I never got LCT. My favorite parts of TP (Gamecube version) were the Hidden Village and the ruins south of the Arbiter's Grounds. But that was more the sneak-around-and-kill-Bokoblins aspect, where the first an enemy knows of my presence is an arrow striking from the "darkness". This doesn't seem like that.

Tough call. But that game is dope, yeah. Nintendo Land was such an awesome demonstration of what the Wii U could do, but we barely received games that featured asynchronous multiplayer like that. That situation kinda parallels what happen here with the Wii Zapper, actually. Except that shit happened to an entire console.
