  • Nearly four years ago, the Seahawks made the biggest trade in their franchise history, sending two 1st round picks and a third to the New York Jets for Jamal Adams. The cost was high, but the anticipation for what Jamal could bring to the defense had most Seahawks fans happy to do the deal. Now as Jamal is just about to wrap up his four season in Seattle it appears the trade has failed, and Jamal looks to being cut from the team. It's not all his fault. Injuries and misuse factor in, but the bottom line is Jamal has become Persona Nongrata in Seattle.

    I've been saying this all season long.
    Folks, there is a great big red stamp on Adams' personnel jacket that says 'SQUISHY'. If it was okay to say that about Rashaad Penny and if it still is okay to wonder about Tua, then Adams is **certainly** a candidate for that conversation.
    Non-Fun Fact: Jamal Adams has played LESS than half of the 77 games he's been eligible to play for the Seahawks. He has **never** been available to play in the Playoffs for anybody. Seattle has paid that guy to go to rehab, and that's frikkin' all.

  • @catalyst1641
    @catalyst1641 5 месяцев назад

    A very interesting point about the Seahawks this season is that they are leading the NFC in sacks. Jamal Adams also hasn't blitzed that much this year and hasn't been consistently on the field. It's funny how we signed Adams to beef up the pass rush, and YEARS later, we aren't needing him as much because we have players like Boye Mafe (and Nwosu when he's healthy).
    Julian Love is much better at strong safety in zone coverage and has been much more impactful in pass defense. He's faster and better in zone coverage. He's got 4 interceptions this year, two in one game alone against the Eagles. He had some noteworthy hits in the Titans game as well.
    I feel like the personnel we have now is reducing Jamal's impact (when on the field). I really love Jamal as a player, but his injuries and performance as a true strong safety make him a liability. We've simply got better options that fit the Seahawks' style of defense.
    (I just checked that Seahawks actually tie the 49ers at 1st in the NFC at 45 sacks, please don't come after me)

    I think Brandon makes a good point in that even the year Jamal set the sack record, they were primarily "Scheme" sacks which usually resulted in Wagner or KJ covering wide receivers and backing out of the box leaving us with two problems. Ask yourself, why did the Jets want to trade him if was such a great player? He always had a rep as a "Clubhouse Lawyer" and that's been on display here too. When we picked him up, I had never seen him play and by the end of the first game here I wish that trend would have continued.
    Nice take Brandon and professionally done as usual. It's too bad Mr. Adams was never able to demonstrate the same level of professionalism that Mr. Cain has.

    Offences adjusted to Jamal whenever he was at the line of scrimmage, that’s why he became ineffective there. His lack of pass coverage ability is the reason the Seahawks should never have traded for him. He was a flashy player who Pete liked, one of his biggest mistakes at the Hawks. Just imagine who the Hawks could have had for those picks they traded.

Incredible impactive player, exactly what Seattle needed after Freeny & Clowney moved on. You know, it's really sad that the biggest trade in our franchise history wasn't for a QB, or a DT or even a RB. It was for a friggin safety, a position that is by definition supposed to be the last line of defense. In other words, if your defense is at all effective, the safeties really shouldn't be that involved, let alone warrant such a big deal. I could understand if we planned to be "innovative" with Jamal, that was the only thing that made the trade tolerable, but outside of one season where we HAD to use him because we had negative pass rush, we really tried to hide his deficiencies. What is even more intolerable is I distinctly remember our DC preach in the off season how we were going to feature him....I don't think having him solo cover #1 wide receivers was what we had in mind. If we don't move on from him I will take it as a further sign that this front office is inept.

      Adams was in no way the biggest trade in franchise history. That trade would definitely be the trade with the Houston Oilers for Steve Largent for a future 8th round pick. I'd also have to say the the trades for Matt Hasselbeck and Marshawn Lynch were also bigger trades as well.

    I don't like the misuse narrative or comparison angle. Jimmy broke Hawk TE records for catches, yardage, and TD's. So what if he never developed into an effective blocker as they hoped, and u conveniently failed to mention he was money in the red zone. That is not misuse and he wasn't a trade bust. JA was not misused either, they only stopped using as blitzing safety because he couldn't stay healthy doing so. At 200 lbs his body just couldn't hold up mixing it up in the box so often and it finally caught up with him, and since he couldn't do it effectively they kept him in deep coverage as a normal safety should be able to do, but he is terrible at it as everyone can see now. This is not misuse from coaches, it was just the unfortunate circumstance they found themselves in.

      Hans, the points I raise in the video with Jimmy, is he was used a certain way with the Saints, and I specifically pointed to the way he was used, and then the Seahawks traded for him to move him to a different role that he was not well suited. It's not an edgy take. It's pretty well understood. Does it mean Jimmy didn't provide some contributions? No. But it was a dumb process to make that kind of trade when that was their intention. The same has been true with Jamal. It makes zero sense for the coaches to stop blitzing Jamal because they're worried that will get him injured (That's just your feeling btw, you don't have anything to back that point of view up), while also putting him deep coverage which he has shown over and over is a big fail when put into that position. He also has just as much as chance as being injured on any play, blitzing or not.

    • @HansMcGruber
      @HansMcGruber 5 месяцев назад

      @@TheHawksNest12thman Jimmy was used to catch footballs both from in line TE or split out. He caught passes in NO as well. He broke records in Sea for TE's, he was not misused. JA is not the same player as when he first arrived, either by injury or whatever is limiting his ability, it's clear to see and understandable why coaches weren't sending him to rush as much or at all recently. It's not because coaches all of a sudden just wanted to put him back in coverage for the hell of it, they aren't stupid, they loved his pass rush ability. And he wasn't strictly a pass rusher in NY, he did play the normal strong safety in coverage, duh. He has not been misused, he just isn't usable anymore. You don't have any more insight than me, so your opinion is a just a feeling too buddy, and I think it's wrong. The only think u got right is JA won't be in Sea next year.

  • @gummiesrule88
    @gummiesrule88 5 месяцев назад +3

    I thought it was a bad trade from the beginning (given what they were giving up), and it got worse after the Hawks were seduced by Adams' first year of sacks to give him huge bucks over time. It was clear even then that he was not a traditional safety, strong or free, because he was simply a liability in pass defense outside 10 years downfield. Add in the raft of injuries and the frustrations those injuries caused everybody, and it is very clearly the single worst personnel decision of this management group.
    I continue to be concerned that the trade was made because management--especially Pete, ever the optimist--tried to wish the team into a "just one more player and we'll be in championship caliber" position. But wishes, however fervent, aren't facts. And I think that mindset was in play again, in a (thankfully) more minor way, when they recently traded a second round pick for Williams, on a rental! Best D-lineman on the team, but this team needs more rebuilding to truly compete, and Williams is going to cost big to re-sign. Tough to continue our rebuild with young, cheap talent but without draft picks, especially high ones...just a head-shakingly bad misjudgment on where we were, and are, as a team. We are decent, overall, but no more, and that does not win championships. Might make playoffs, but not more. Time to cut overly expensive players, and get down to rational, reasonable--if unglamorous--team building, through excellent drafts and judicious free agency gambles.

      @@Johnnyprc He was a thug, prone to injury and passed his peak. It was difficult to predict that while he might have been useful in the short run (1 yr) that he would be an anvil around the Seahawks' neck for the rest of his contract. That's not even factoring in the impact he has on the clubhouse of his gangster mentality, on and off the field...a loud mouth bully. He was played at the top because he was old and fragile and couldn't sustain the hard knocks mixing it up from the middle. Playing from the top gave him a chance to act hard via cheap shots on unprotected receivers or finishing off running backs short receivers already slowed by LBs and DBs. He was a loser by the time Hawks got him. Why do you think the Jets parted ways? The Seahawks were suckers and got played by Adams and the Jets. Just one of many pathetic moves by Carroll. I hope Carroll carries Adam's bags while both are on the way out.

    I love him to death. Will defend his play style until the end of time. Blitzed him 20 percent of the time year 1. Set nfl record. Now blitzing him around half that at 10 percent? It’s astound the misuse and he gets blamed for it like he’s not playing with effort. Grown to be bitter towards fans who don’t see that also

    Hated this trade from the start. He was never a ball hawk. Horrible in coverage. He’s basically and undersized line backer. They would set the table for him to get all those sacks sending 5 and 6 sometimes 7 rushers to justify the trade. He was Terrible from jump with his stone hands and over priced contract/trade value. Crippling move to the organization

      And you back this up based on what? Any proof or just bluster? Because I can show his 85pff pass rush grade this year and that doesn't align your feelings. The fact the Seahawks also blitz at a 32nd rate in the league on 6 man blitzes or more further illustrates the issue comes down to the team not wanting to blitz, which has gone on for years, regardless of Adams' presence on the team. The team is also blitzing at a bottom third league rate despite having well-graded players as blitzing pass rushers like Devon Witherspoon, Bobby Wagner, Julian Love and Jamal Adams, and again this is due to the hesitancy to blitz in general and Coach Carroll is very very risk adverse. Now, let's have some fun discourse TT. Give me some backing to your point of view, and maybe we can find some common ground. Or if you want to just puff out your chest and tell me what's up, you can do that too. The engagement helps me either way.

    I don’t care how much some wealthy organization has paid Jamal. I just don’t like having a guy hurt all the time or when he is not hurt, he is a liability to have in coverage or on the field period. Let’s stop being a dumping ground for overpaid, underperforming superstars.
