In the first of this multi-part series featuring audio from past IHS symposia, John Barrows (1913-1974) gave what sounds like a masterclass at The First Annual French Horn Workshop, held at Florida State University in 1969. At some point during the session he took questions from the floor.

Thank you for posting this! I was Mr. Barrows' first "kid" student (1958) in his New York City days. I stayed close to him until his untimely death. BTW, I still play (Alex 107x) using a Tom Greer JB cup (aka B29) and Atkinson A rim. I have a Dell'Osa Barrows mouthpiece that Mr. Barrows, at a lesson, took from his Schmidt saying, "Here, kid, use this".The Dell"Osa is deeper than the B29; I know that Mr. Barrows, late in his career, worked with Walter Lawson on creating a mouthpiece. I am a Pathologist so my understanding of Mr. Barrows’ health at the time of this recording is bittersweet. But, I still hear his Tully Hall performance of Auf Dem Strom with Beverly Sills. Once again, simply said, thank you.
The type of shit that gets recommended to me on this website is crazy
