Why the Kansas Speedway Is Better Than You Think

- The Kansas Speedway is actually one of NASCAR’s most underrated tracks. Throughout its history it has produced some of the best finish in recent memory. No matter the configuration, no matter the pavement, no matter when the race date is you can always count on a decent race at the very least. Because so many people overlook this track I want to give it some love today, especially since the top 3 divisions of NASCAR are racing at the track this weekend. Because the Kansas Speedway is better than you think it is.

Jeff Gordon not only won the very first 2 races at Kansas in 2001 and 2002
He also won the very first official night race in 2014
8:04 Kyle Busch 2010 with light damage: *It’s destroyed*
2020 Kyle Busch with light damage: *It’s killed*
*Some things never change* 😂
Apperently
Really I am a Kyle busch fan Denny delivers why but I like your vids and I subscribed to your channel
Kansas really is NASCARs most underrated track
Because it's not. Short tracks are better and that's the truth. Change the package and watch it be great.
Nah, Its Phoenix
No it's definitely the Glen
@Kæłęb Łæñœūë chicago is decent, definitely not too underrated but its still good
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld it is definitely underrated
Welp. Now that Chicago is most likely gone. This is Mike Skinner's favorite intermediate!
F in the chat.
Wasn’t this the same track were Kensith took out both Pensky cars in one race?
Volksrodden no Kenseth took them out at Martinsville.
Mike Skinner F no. I want Chicagoland and Kentucky back.
Thanks for the shout out dude! Great video as always!

6:56 Pain. Pure pain. As a 7-year-old and a Carl Edwards fan, that is my most vivid early memory of watching NASCAR. That move perfectly sums up his entire career. He was so close to glory, but was just barely beaten by someone better
The saddest part is that if he got it off the wall sooner, he would've won too
The issue with many 1.5 milers is the banking. If you don’t nail it right, the track is bad. Kansas, Chicago, and Miami definitely nailed it and is a large reason why they are great tracks.
Miami isnt good, Kansas and Chicago are tho
@@randomkdm nah
@@randomkdm I like Homestead Miami because it's really similar to the old Atlanta layout
The problem is the package and current gen of cars
Chicago was the last track that had original banking and surface. Every other 1.5 mile has been repaved or reconfigured at some point
12:19 that will forever be one of the best director calls ever, changing to that rear facing onboard camera right at that instant. Brilliant work.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching that Nemechek vs Rudd battle. Two underdog veteran drivers from underdog teams just fighting like hell to win the race, no championship involved, just good racing
I remember when they had the spongebob theme for the race and they painted the walls.
Also I’ll always remember the Aric Almerola wreck where he hurt his neck because I was watching live when that happened.
Yep, was the first nascar race ever attended and I was 8 so the SpongeBob theme was almost the best part and well my favorite driver Jimmie won so it's a very special race for me
What about 2014, when Jeff Gordon held off a hard charging Kevin Harvick at the end of the first Kansas race held under the lights
I was going to mention that one.
Almirola should've won the 2012 fall race there IF he had it in the bag...
**cough** Goodyear...
FUN FACT: Joe Nemechek swept the 2004 Kansas weekend
Yes he swept the track and those were also his last two wins as a driver. He does race occasionally through.
The best moments at Kansas to me is Carl Edward’s video game move on Jimmie Johnson in 2008 and Joey Logano wrecking Matt Kenseth in 2015 which would set up Kenseth’s revenge a few weeks later.
We had no cable in ‘07. I remember being so ticked about them moving the race off ABC.
I read about the finish in the newspaper the next day and didn’t actually see the ending until a couple years ago.
My Favorite memory is when Brad Keselowski beat Bowman and the reason is because he drove for Mittler brother motorsports and he Mike Mittler was a friend of mine. The Night before Mittler lost his battle to cancer and seeing Brad Win was awesome to see and helped us heal.
RIP Mike Mittler
I hope Bowyer can claim his lost win at Kansas this weekend it would be nice to end his career
He did win at Kansas in the trucks at least.
I’ve always loved this racetrack. This perfectly coins why.
My dad loves nascar so I bought me and him tickets for the 24 of October for his birthday. I’m super excited I don’t watch much nascar but i know my dad will enjoy it
Kansas is definitely in contention for the best 1.5 miler
@Andrew McFadden With all the hate pretty much every SMI 1.5 track gets, it’s between Kansas and Homestead. So they’re definitely in contention
Manager: "Make it glass smooth"
Workers: "Okay"
Manager: "I meant smooth to drive on, not literally as smooth as glass!"
I was at the spring weekend in 2017 my only nascar races I've been to but a great facility and infield makes it one of my favorite tracks
Thanks for the video! This is my home track. The races are really good especially the Xfinity races lately. I think the last 3 years there's been a first career winner, Christopher bell, John Nemechek and Brandon Jones. Also the seating is great and you can see the back stretch clearly
This is also my home track
I’ve gone to the fall Kansas race since 2015. Tradition I keep with my dad to this day.
Awesome..I am taking my kids this fall Saturday Xfinity race..Oct 2021
I've been to several Kansas races. Amazing experience!
I never got why people don't like this track. It's my favorite 1.5 mile track.
I said it last year and I will say it again. Kansas IMO is the best 1.5 mile track NASCAR has. Even more so with the current package on those kind of tracks. But i find it interesting that in Johnson's post race comments in '07 he said about Biffle when passed Bowyer on track shortly before the finish line, so using his words would he not be penalized as well for not maintaining pace speed? Something to think about when you watch and hear that comment.
A very underrated track in my opinion.
I think tons of people think it’s bad but these past few races at Kansas have been some of the best races for intermediates in a while
@Andrew McFadden I agree with bringing the rock and north wilkesboro but from what I heard Kansas brings a good crowd for intermediates and it’s one of the few 1.5 that people look forward to
@Andrew McFadden Same
7:56 me when I try to wreck people in Wreckfest
Kansas is the best 1.5 track right now...
don’t @ me
It is in my book the fastest too.
@DennyDelivers
@DennyDelivers
Of course... people would @ me... 😑😂
It got better when it was repaved
I’m glad someone said it. As my home track, I’m a bit biased but always keep this thought to myself. Kansas always seems to have bizarre but serious wrecks too. It’s a Title and Back Breaker. Just ask Sterling Marlin and Almirola
No kidding. Ryan Preece and Danica Patrick have had some scary wrecks there. Seems to always have one.
Oh Erik Jones in2017 as well
@Andrew McFadden Kelly Sutton Flipped in The 2005 Truck Race
Kansas is Tbh, one of the better 1.5 mile tracks. Mostly because the high lane is the preferred line to go around the track.
Kyle Busch winning on his 36th birthday is my favorite
Kansas is probably the only Cookie-Cutter track that I look forward to.
Kansas has had really good racing in the past few years. Also, it has some amazing crashes.
same with me but adding vegas and (i hope it comes back) chicagoland
@@austinreed5805They been calling it the mini Dega because of the wrecks
I was at Kansas for the playoff race this year (literally just a few days ago) it was a great time and an extremely clean race.
Hell yeah dude heading there in may of this year!
Kansas definitely has been a good 1.5 mile track since the 2012 repave.
Nice to see my hometown track getting some love. Glad to be back Sunday.
Kansas and Chicagoland are the two best modern 1.5s
Vegas?
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld not as good but can be decent
Rip Chicagoland
I really hope Chicago comes back in 2022
Kansas is my favorite track not only because I am from and currently living in Kansas but because It is an awesome track and the only track I have ever been to
2020 marks 19 track didnt open to nascar till 01 in 2000 it was being finished but i understand what you're saying... that tracks my home track and its a happy place just like the military base i lived on as a child.
Honestly Kansas is one of my favorite tracks and I’m happy it’s not off the schedule
Kansas 2015 started the rivalry with Matt Kenseth vs Joey Lagano and Kenseth wrecks Lagano at Martinsville. Good times
My first cup race that I’ve ever attended is gonna be this weekends cup race. I’m hyped. Not the full experience but I’m excited to go regardless
The casino in turn 1 is probably what saved it from being closed down. Backend of attendance figures, valuable land, I don't think it would have lived without that extra attraction.
Not sure if it counts since I don''t believe they had events on the same day, but also the MLS stadium. Even if it's just eye candy for people entering the parking lot or infield.
Its needs 2 more on the back stretch and turn 3
Kansas is very underrated. Great facility with great staff, free parking, and you're allowed to take food and beverages inside... Not to mention the great racing the last few years. It's my home track and I couldn't be happier.
That's awesome
@Andrew McFadden got damn....who peed on your post toasties?....apparently Kansas did. (and the name is from a movie)
The Spring 2011 race with Brad winning was my first race at my home track!! I will be there Sunday!!!
I am going to Kansas Speedway for my 7th time this weekend, I love the racetrack
Same here and I'm just glad we can go to a race live
Why EVERYTIME this man uploads a video on a weekend on a certain track and an insane wreck happens on that exact track.
Please do a video on Jeff Burtons carrer. He was big but like Mark Martin dwindled over the years
Kansas has some great racing. My first nascar race I went to was at Kansas at the Fall race of 2018. It’s was my first nascar race. I was disappointed that there was little to no action during the race. I did get to see Chase Elliot get his 3rd career win there which was dope. I wish I was at one of the other Kansas races because they had really good racing. 🏁
The best example of using the wall like in video games is 2015 Eldora when Larson was chasing Bubba Wallace down by slapping the wall every single turn in the end
Last years spring race from Kansas had some great racing
This track produced one of my favorite Jimmie Johnson memories. He wrecked the crap out of the rear end and got a top 10. He wrecked very early on too.
Kansas is just like every other 1.5 mile track on the schedule. It can either be a hit or miss with this package. Depends if we get any restarts late in the race honestly
Great video about Kansas. I also think that Kansas is underrated.
I remember who won the 2010 Kansas race because it was the first nascar race I ever went to
Kansas is easily one of the best 1.5 tracks today! Hope Hamlin wins 3 in a row!
I’ve always wanted to go to Kansas
Com this Saturday to the Xfinity race october 23 2021
I will see you there Oct 23rd 2021 for the Saturday Xfinity race..Im taking the kids...
Kansas is my favorite 1.5 mile track
kansas is my home track
I was also there when Logano spun Kenseth
Chicagoland and Kansas is the best 1.5 mile race tracks in Nascar
I am going to be eating corn while watching this
What? I have to represent the brand!
LOOK AT THE HANDS
i live 3 hours to the north of that racetrack in Omaha
I live live about 14 mins away from it
This is why Kansas is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule
Kansas is my baby! LOVE THIS TRACK SO MUCH!
@Andrew McFadden what's wrong with what I said.
That 2007 race last time nascar shortened a cup race due to darkness one of two in 21st century pocono 2002 was the other.
2006 race still has the greatest finish in the history of this track
liked video 👍🏁🏆
Danica had her best finish at Kansas, I remember her passing Jr and Stewart at the same time coming off turn 4, I think she finished 7th that night but did run in the top 5 for most of the race.
she came at 6th in Atlanta in 2014 that was her best career finish
Las Vegas and Kansas are underrated tracks
The 1.5 miles are all pretty good, if there wasnt 15 of them on the schedule.
The next gen car should improve the racing product on tracks such as Kansas
Wait, Richard Childress had little Ty/Austin hold his watch while he beat the hell out of KFB? How the hell did I not know this and what was the dispute about?
What about the spring race I 2014
*in
I'm going to both this year! Meet up?
I like Kansas, Chicagoland as well but I think it gets a bad wrap because of the 2007 race, that was shortend twice, controversial finish etc.
If only it was a night race this weekend
We need more drivers sending it last lap like Carl Edwards did.
Well truex and kahne did
That was amazing, even though it didn't work out.
If his car *did* stick, that would've been the pass of the decade, easily.
Noah Gragson
I've attended just about every cup race at Kansas most of them have been pretty good races the only ones I've been to that were a little dull was 2010 fall 2011 in my opinion it's the best 1.5 mile track
@Andrew McFadden dude your a fucking idiot I never wanna see anyone get hurt ok wether it was Sterling Marlin Dale Jarrett Dale Jr or Almirola ok so just shut your fucking mouth and be quiet but most nascar fans probably like you love Daytona and Talladega that saw Dale Earnhardt be killed seeing fans hurt by debris in catchfence crashes and seeing Ryan Neman almost die at Daytona back in February but you love that don't ya what a piece of work you are
The spring race should have went to St. Louis
I swear Kyle Busch could hit a pebble on the track and his next words are gonna be "The car is destroyed, it's fucked. Let's go home"
With me living an hour outside the track it is definitely the best 1.5 miler
configurement?
Lol meanwhile saturday it was pitch black and they let them run to the end lol
Kansas gotton better since the repave it was my first time going to it in person back in 2014.
In fall 2019 when Kyle Larson almost won with a broken rib
Kansas id say has the most big wrecks outside of Daytona and Talladega
Kansas and Watkins Glen.
Gordon's 2001 Win is The Best One
Huh, never thought of Kansas like that. Always thought of it just a filler track.
Casey Mears was good?
Don't forget the big wrecks
😂😂😂😂 2017 was a good year for both races at kansas
Lets not forget Rusty probably wins the 1st race there if not for a penalty late.
Are you going to the race this weekend?
Yep, probably will be at the track before noon
@@TheIceberg where you Sittin? I’m in turn 4, sec 252
i hope its a good race i do not want a snooze fest in the playoffs
Well with the garbage ball sports gimmicks, anything is sadly possible
Texas is next week so...
@@jeremymethfield8533 it’s gonna be garbage. On the bright side for the 25th, IndyCar is on
@@supremeleadergnkdroid3202 they could’ve kept the non-elimination chase. But no, Brian France made it worse. A lot of people should know that ball spells gimmicks don’t belong in any Motorsports🤷🏻♂️🏁
Chase-Wise, the non-elimination chase was way better than the fake excitement gimmick we have now🤷🏻♂️
No need to disrespect
@@supremeleadergnkdroid3202 also Brianless France is gone so NASCAR should be in better hands
It does have some memorable moments, but i'm still not a fan. Close finishes at the line are awesome. The races shown, 2nd was coming but still finished a car length or two behind.I can't stand fuel mileage races. I wont say I hate the track, just prefer short tracks, road courses and super speedways.
