I've been in that situation before. My cat likes to scratch at the screen door when she wants to be let back inside and I forgot she was already in in my case and I heard the scratching and rustling like. 11PM so I sighed and went to let her in and just as I was cracking open the screen door I realized NOPE THAT'S THREE RACCOONS and slammed the door shut again. They all just sat there and stared, probably as confused - but not as startled - as I was.
My cat looks like smee too, can’t wait to confuse him for a raccoon someday.

We've got an outdoor cat and one night it was out on the porch and started licking my brothers leg so he went to pet it, except when he looked down it was a raccoon and not our cat. This reminded me of that.

Wow we had almost the same thing happen last night! We feed an outside cat and it will pat at our window when it comes over at night. Well last night it came and patted at the window and I grabbed cat food and opened the door and it was a giant ass raccoon out there waiting. I had the same reaction too bc I was expecting cat, not raccoon, and I yelled and scared it away.
