Topographic surveys using a survey rover pole have conventionally been a laborious task. Photogrammetry from drones offers an alternative method and using GCPs (Ground Control Points) there is still acceptable accuracy achievable.

We got them for the RTK for a fixed wing before DJI or Trimble had a solution. The Trimble/Applanix kit looks very nice but quite the price tag unless your using it every week.

It would be helpful to breakdown what is required to do this more clearly. Can I get a useable, relatively accurate (+/- 15cm) contour map (~50cm contours) for my property with a drone (eg Mavic Pro) and a handheld gps device?

its possible, you need to have a better Position corrections. I am not sure about which hand held GPS device you are using. Mavic Pro (the old one) has 1/3" Sensor so it will affect GSD, so the relative accuracy will surely affect.

Seem the vegetation is not removed, it's DSM. DTM is more important in Topographical survey
