Avoid being duped by alternative news outlets that aren't being paid millions of dollars to tell certain stories only.
For me, this is a HUGE reason why I stopped watching the news on TV

I'm 44 years old and disheartened of what our country has become. I believe the majority of people get along. The media lies and attempts to make us believe otherwise.

You're acting as if disinformation etc. didn't exist before social media. Have you been living under a rock; or perhaps weren't born before internet and haven't done any research. You know what, the general populace is not as stupid as you seem to think and we can quite often weed out the garbage ourselves. Not enough credit is given to the general public for their intelligence.

I agree... BUT I have seen an alarming amount of information manipulation in the mainstream media also. E.g., Global's report on covid survivor immunity (natural immunity) being insuffucient. I am a biologist, I know the science, I know the mainstream media has this one very wrong. And that's just one example
sure wish this was properly closed captioned or had a transcript so I could use it in courses. :)
I don't agree with this video therefore I'll call it misinformation and just ignore it, rather than providing facts that prove that what I believe in is correct and what is shared to me is false.
