So glad the guys that made Absolver have made a much better and narratively fleshed out game. Could see the talent in Absolver but the lack of reason to keep going killed it for me

So glad this got a glowing review. I was just looking up why I can't download it early on PS4 if I was doing something wrong (seems like it's a Sony issue of course) and saw some headlines of other reviews that weren't so into it but this one reminded me why I pre-ordered in the first place and I'm excited again.
this reminds me of the rare ps2 game with jet li. rise to honour.. the game was amazing cause you have to attack with the right analog stick instead of button smashing :)
This looks like a lot of fun. I'd prefer a Sleeping Dogs 2 but this should scratch that martial arts itch just fine. The aging mechanic is a wonderful idea.
Someone who picked this up months ago as someone whose been bored by "brawlers" for decades. What Sifu does well is requiring you to master its mechanics and moveset. You can't cheese it. It is a very, "high tempo" game. It's short, but after a stage you might be exhausted. Even, "trash mobs" are good fights. Very demanding, but very rewarding with tremendous style.
Man, this looks excellent! I love old fashioned brawlers like Streets Of Rage, and this looks like a nice 'evolution' of that genre with extra depth. Those last 3 words were like a pin bursting a bubble for me though. Guess i wont be playing it - i'm still too stubborn to jump on the Epic Game Store train - i like all my games in one library / launcher. My own fault - hopefully it'll come to Steam eventually.
as a guy who loved absolver I was looking forward to this game and it sounds like everything I wanted it to be glad I saw this I now know what I must do
Rogue-like beat'em-up? It's way more linear than a Hades for sure, but it's not like Tekken Force where anyone can finish the game doing the same thing everytime. Even if you permanently unlock the entire skill tree and all the shrine bonuses, if you suck... you suck. It's game over before you even clear a level. That's the beauty of Sifu. It forces you to adapt your style depending on a lot of variables... how do you isolate your enemies when 3 of them come at you, when do you block, parry, duck, or dodge; how do you handle all the bosses... I've never played a beat'em-up game with such a steep learning curve.
Kinda sounds like this game could have benefited from assists that let you make the enemy telegraphs more obvious. For one I think most of these games could use that as an assist mode option... But also because it would force the devs to think about them a bit more.... And it sounds like some of the attack telegraphs aren't very good... (Like the only reason is ever play cup head is cause I watched a video that talked about how the attacks are telegraphed and if the game included an assist mode that let me adjust how long the telegraphs go on and maybe so extra icons or something to indicate what's going on... And maybe an assist that makes it so I can't die so I can see more of the game... And it'd probably need to be free.... Otherwise I'm good with the videos I've watched about the game...)
from the other videos ive seen (skill up primarily) id say this isnt for you.. it very much about mastering the system rather than progressing through a level so if you like speed running yeah but if you just want a cool mystery with some lite kung fu bits...nah
So its a rogue-lite with max of 50 lives and it is designed so that to improve your character with buffs and progress the story you have to use up your limited lives?.. Both me and my wallet are glad I watched this review before buying the game because now I don't want to anymore. I do wonder if it is possible to beat the game with your character still aged 20 but that is a challenge for those gamers who enjoy torturing themselves by disproving the impossible exists.
I'm three levels in and I wouldn't call this a rogue like. No procedural generation or randomisation of any kind. You just have a limited number of 'lives' even though you can replay any level to try beat it at a younger age to make the next level easier. Just my two cents
2:05 is that an Oldboy reference?
Oh, yeah, it is for sure!
Was thinking the same.
Or just beat em up reference.
I have been back and forth on this but this review sealed the deal and got me to buy it. Thanks for the great review KC
2:06 Old Boy reference seals the deal. Looks sweet.
Exactly what I thought, lol

This game looks so fucking cool, finally a worthy beat n up
I hope the camera is not too much of a problem. it's often an issue with these types of games.

Well damn, that review actually made me want to buy the game. It looks really cool.
I wonder if yahtzee will do a ZP of it.
I'm pretty sure he will after Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

I’m here searching up the same thing 😅😅
They said they are having issues and looking into resolving it quickly.

Looking forward to picking it up in a year when it releases on Steam

Well they ripped off kill bill and Old boy for 2 of the set pieces so it must be good.
SIFU should be downloading to your system now!
After all these years someone has finally asked 'What if Shenmue wasn't complete ass to play?'
Yakuza
Solid review. I'll definitely be checking this one out. Thanks!
Wait, let me get this straight, Sifu is Shenmue but with actual gameplay? Sign me up.

Was this removed and put back? I swear I saw it yesterday.
Or wait, it's not this one. But it does feel like a three minute review disappeared
Yes, The Waylanders one. We found a big tech issue after publishing, so it'll be back tomorrow.
@@theescapist oh gotcha. I thought it might have been you felt bad absolutely destroying a game 😂
Thank you! I am so getting this!
This reminds me of Furi in a really good way
For some reason Sifu sounds like the abbreviation of a really really naughty word
It means "master" in Chinese...

My mind went to "Shenmue" obviously, but also weirdly to "Fights in tight spaces" for the style in certain points.
Doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but it does sound like an amazing and well made game. I'll eventually be guilty of watching a playthrough.
To those who have played this, is it better with controller or M&K? Are both equally viable?
All of us absolver players still waiting for quarterstaff hahahah

the raid is such a good movie :3
guess im gonna have to wait a year for the steam release
Wow the new standard for the best ‘em up genre 3:14 Now I’m interested in this genre. I’m playing streets of rage 4
Aging 10 years after each death and game over at age 75..., why don't more games do this?
Still no early access download!
It looks like a spiritual successor to sleeping dogs
what because it's Asian? lmao. This isn't arcadey batman combat
That Oldboy reference !!!?
I was not at all interesting in this game from what I'd seen but now I actually really want to try it. What a cool idea.
Don't do it unless you enjoy being frustrated by spamming enemies and a garbage camera.

I dig the Oldboy hallway
It’s 12 $ on cd keys🎉
Game looks really cool, but I'm getting real tired of rogue-likes lately...
Looks slick
2:13.Damn if it's not the corridor fight shot from Old Boy.

Anyone else can’t download this on ps5? I bought the deluxe version and still can’t download it
Same issue here
Literally the reason I’m even watching this video. Went to download early access deluxe edition on ps4 and it won’t download for some reason
I though it releases on the 8th
Delux version was meant to be released 48 hours early.
They are having issues and are trying to fix asap. Not sure if it’s fixed now.
I'm so bad at this game, but it is so much fun
I pre-ordered or Early Access but I still can't download the game 😞
They said they are having issues. Not sure if it’s resolve now.
Getting this instead of Elden Ring
Hope it’ll eventually come out on Xbox.
Cool!
This game is awesome buy now lol don't miss out

I'm a but downed that this isn't on Steam; then I'm told it's on Epic games store?!? Like, what does that even mean?!
Don’t…..just don’t
Damn wish this was on xbox
It's most likely a timed exclusive. It'll probably come there sometime after.

Why is sifu not downloading on ps4
Releases February 8
Epic exclusive? So it's not released on PC yet then.
Honestly this review made me want to buy and play this game. But I ain't buying anything for the Epic Games store, it's fucking garbage.
Sounds great. (Until i heard Epic)
